Laura’s Review of Moonlight on Nightingale Way (On Dublin Street, #6) By Samantha Young

Synopsis
Logan from Echoes of Scotland Street is back with his own smoldering story, as the New York Times bestselling On Dublin Street series returns…

Logan spent two years paying for the mistakes he made. Now, he’s ready to start over. He has a great apartment, a good job, and plenty of women to distract him from his past. And one woman who is driving him to distraction…

Grace escaped her manipulative family by moving to a new city. Her new life, made to suit her own needs, is almost perfect. All she needs to do is find her Mr. Right—or at least figure out a way to ignore her irresistible yet annoying womanizer of a neighbor.

Grace is determined to have nothing to do with Logan until a life-changing surprise slowly begins turning the wild heartbreaker into exactly the kind of strong, stable man she’s been searching for. Only just when she begins to give into his charms, her own messy past threatens to derail everything they’ve worked to build…

Last book in the Series
What I Loved
Every times I read a story in this series it reminds me why I love this series so much and Moonlight on Nightingale Way was no different in that aspect.  Ever since Echoes of Scotland Street, Logan had intrigued me, so I was very happy that the last book in the series would be his story.  The book begins with him starting his life over after spending two years in jail. He definitely seems to keep himself busy with family, friends and lots of women to warm his bed at night. Much to the annoyance of his next-door neighbor Grace, who gets to hear all about his late-night rendezvouses because of the thin walls.

We meet Grace trying to live her semi-quiet life which is suddenly interrupted by her new hot neighbor and his many steamy dates.  Right away I loved Grace’s character and her ability to stand up for herself whenever Logan would annoy her.  She did come across somewhat of a stickler but also lovable and easy to relate to as well.  She made it easy for me to become emotionally involved in the plot and stay that way till the very end

I loved the back and forth between the two of them in the beginning, and even when Logan tried to be nice to Grace it was cute watching the sexual tension build between them.  I especially loved how Graced stepped up to help Logan when his entire world was thrown upside down.  The attraction between them was hot and it was sizzling when they finally got down to business! It was also heartwarming watching them build a relationship together and fall in love.

Not So Much
I don’t think I have any huge complaints about this story, it was hot from beginning to end and I absolutely loved it.  My only negative would be that it was a little too predictable for my tastes because it followed the same plot cycle as all the rest of the books in this series.  I wish maybe there were some twists that I didn’t see coming or something to add more excitement.  I’m not saying I hate the formula each book follows in this series, it’s just that it’s the same exact one in every single book.

To Sum It All Up!
Once again Samantha Young has knocked a contemporary romance out of the park and I loved every minute of it.  Like I said before Logan intrigued me in the previous book so I was happy that the next one was his story and I wasn’t disappointed at all.  He turned out to be everything I wanted him to be and so much more.  Logan’s sexiness jumps off the pages from the start but you find out is truly the perfect man by the time the story ends.  He’s made some bad choices in his life that lead him down some dark roads but when his life is forever changed once again he steps up to the challenge and that made me love him even more.

Also, I loved the sexual tension between Logan and Grace, it was there the minute they lay eyes on each other and I couldn’t wait for the moment they finally go at it.  It was wonderful to watch them fight their attraction but then eventually fall in love.  All that fighting made all the love scenes sweeter and definitely more enjoyable.

This was a bittersweet read for me because I loved this story but I knew when I finished it the series would be over and I didn’t want to say goodbye to all these wonderful characters and their stories.  I fell in love with this makeshift family when I began reading On Dublin Street and it was so great to watch all of that grow with each new story.  At the end of the book the point of views change to each character from the other books, for me it was a nice way to say goodbye to everyone and their stories.  This is truly one of my favorite series which means although this is the end, there are many rereads in my future.

Laura’s Review of Echoes of Scotland Street (On Dublin Street, #5) By Samantha Young

Synopsis
Shannon MacLeod has always gone for the wrong type of man. After she drifted from one toxic relationship to the next, her last boyfriend gave her a wakeup call in the worst possible way. With her world shattered, she’s sworn off men—especially those of the bad-boy variety.

Cole Walker is exactly the sort that Shannon wants to avoid—gorgeous, tattooed, charming, and cocky. But his rough exterior hides a good man who’s ready to find “the one.” He’s determined to pull Shannon from her self-imposed solitude and win her heart.

As Shannon opens up in the face of Cole’s steady devotion, the passion between them ignites to blazing levels. But when Shannon’s past comes back to haunt her, her fears may destroy the trust Cole has built between them—and tear them apart for good…
What I Loved

The story opens with Cole and Shannon meeting on Scotland Street as teenagers and even though it’s just for a few moments the connection between them is instant.  The plot takes place nine years later when Cole and Shannon are all grown up and Shannon is looking to start a new life away from her family and past by moving to Edinburgh.  The minute Cole and Shannon lay eyes on each other the attraction they once felt as teenagers comes back to life but things have changed in Shannon’s life and Cole isn’t the type of man she’s looking for anymore.

Cole has been easy to love from the first time I met him in Down London Road and I was so excited to finally get to his story.  I didn’t know it was possible to fall more in love with a character but I certainly did while reading this book and Cole might just be my favorite male character in the series.  Shannon on the other hand was a little hard to love at first, but my heart went out to her so many times and as her story progressed she was someone who I eventually warmed up to and loved just as much as Cole by the end.  I loved his patience with Shannon, and how he was determined to show her just how special and amazing she was no matter what anyone else said.  The chemistry between them sizzled from the very beginning and it increased with every page, I couldn’t wait for them to finally give in to it all and start ripping of their clothes.  The bond Cole and Shannon shared was so amazing and I loved watching their relationship grow.
Not So Much
I really have no huge complaints, the foundation for the plot and the character development was right on point.  I do wish that there was more of a change in the plot because it was very much the same as all the rest of the book in this series.  It made the story a little bit more predictable than I would’ve liked but I was no less enthralled with the plot.
To Sum It All Up!
Overall, this was another great story to add to an amazing series.  I thought the plot was well thought out and developed, and there were no slow points or plot holes.  Like I said before I have loved Cole for so happy for him to finally get his own happily ever after.  I loved his tough hot guy exterior while at the same time was such a loving and giving person that was proven repeatedly in this book.  Shannon walked into Cole’s tattoo shop damaged from her past, and Cole became the man to show her there were still some good guys left in the world. I loved the sexual tension between them as they tried to deny the attraction they had towards each other because is sucked you into the story even more, and I couldn’t wait for it all to explode!

It was so amazing to watch their relationship grow and to see the love they both had for one another grow.  Cole was such an amazing boyfriend and I don’t think there wasn’t a time that Shannon didn’t appreciate everything he did for her.  Of course, there were some dark parts to this story as they both uncover certain truths about each other but I loved watching them come out the other end of that.

No story in this series would be complete without the rest of the gang showing up and they around a lot of times throughout the story and I loved it.  It’s so great to see all their stories continue as the series grows and how their families have grown too.  I absolutely love this series and Cole and Shannon’s story just added to why I love it so much.  I was sucked right in to Shannon and Cole’s story from the beginning and I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to them when it all ended. Each book is filled with so much love and sense of family and support it warms my heart every single time I pick up a new book in the series and Echoes of Scotland Street was no different.

Excerpt
Chapter One: The Leap

The relentless wind cooled his skin as he mustered the courage to jump. It was a long way to fall, and he’d been poised on the edge for nearly an hour. It wasn’t fear that kept him rooted to the spot, but the effort of reaching through time to see what consequences his action might bring. To think of leaving was akin to dropping a boulder in the pool of his own history; there was no way to foresee what the ripples might cause. Or the waves, since this would make waves, not ripples. It was all an undiscovered thing.

No one had done what he meant to do; at least not in the memory of his House.

Under the points of his boots, featureless mist curled away to reveal an enticing glimpse of color and life so unlike his own home. Gray, he thought. I am so very tired of all the gray in these clouds. The longer he looked at the myriad of colors below, the more acute his hunger to see what mysteries rolled beneath him, unknown and vibrant. The land looked like a fairy tale made real, its hills and rivers gleaming like a promise in the early morning light. The sheer distance and appeal of it all clutched at his chest like a physical thing, making him cover his heart. His body fizzed with excitement and fear, and he liked it.

“You won’t go, you know.” His brother’s voice was bored to the point of insolence, a tone he’d perfected from years of practice. Like others who kept their face an impassable mask, he’d lost much of the joy in his life, if ever he knew it. Brother Garrick appeared from the sullen gray mist that hid the secret columns and towers of their home. Walking toward Keiron, a smile quirked at the cruel lips, so unlike his own. “We’ve already been to the edge of the scrying pool. You won’t go. It is known to us.” A look flickered across the impassive face, something ugly and hot. His control was slipping. That was new, as was his belief that he was equal to their parents. Or older siblings, at that.

“Yes. I will.” Keiron’s voice sounded small in the silence. Even the wind died out of respect for what he was about to say, and if his resolve held, what he would then do.

A sad shake of the perfect head said that was a lie. Garrick was beautiful to the point of distraction. His pupils were nearly colorless in a face framed with fine blonde hair that called sunlight to mind, so different from his brother. Garrick was light, while Keiron was dark, with skin golden from the sun and eyes the black of a starless night. A long, aquiline nose gave him a regal quality that Garrick, for all his perfection, could not possess. His hair was curled and ebony to the point of being liquid, a black mass that he pushed back with irritation at Garrick’s verbal assault. Keiron was lean and tall, and in the stages of bloom where men first leave boyhood behind when they are no longer concerned with a young man’s things.

Garrick spoke again, substituting arrogance for wisdom. “No. There is no escaping that which has passed. Even if you were to—”

A swift cut of Keiron’s hand broke the thought. His brother looked shocked, then amused, and then angry.

He didn’t like being spoken to that way. “I can, and I will. I know how to shift the light of days, and I know when to do it, too.”

“Really? A secret of that size, and you, a minor son, have figured it out? Do tell, fledgling.” He loved using Keiron’s youth as an insult, even though he was barely a year older.

“If you paid attention to anything other than yourself, you’d know that there is logic behind the Moondivers. There have been others, you know.” A hint of smugness colored Keiron’s defense, but his brother had it coming.

The reaction was volcanic.

Real anger spat forth from Garrick now, contorting his features into something crude and ugly. It was, Keiron thought, the first honest thing he’d seen of his brother in all these years. It was the face of fear and rage, and he knew why. This entire outburst was about power, or the lack of it. To control time was the province of elders, not some child who thought that he could move the forces of worlds to right a wrong. It was arrogance of a kind unlike anything he’d ever embraced, and his brother’s hate for him grew by the second because he knew that for all his perfection, the younger of them was more pure. The elder boy was ambition personified, but without courage and purity he would never control the clocks. For that matter, Garrick would not even control himself, a fact that dawned on him as he sputtered with rage.

Keiron squared his feet and repeated his intentions like a prayer. “The days will bend for me. I can feel it, and your anger will not change the truth.” His words rang with a kind of surety that made his legs shake, if only briefly.

It was something Garrick would say, and for that he was frightened and proud, since unlike his brother, Kieron meant every word of it and aimed to see it through.

In two long strides, his brother came close enough that he could smell the wind herbs on his breath. They were sour with hate, just like the expression contorting his face. “She’s already dead.”

Keiron went rigid, but fought mightily to gain control of the anger that bloomed in his chest. Heat spread like sunlight, and he took three long breaths to contain his next words. “She is now, but she won’t be when I get there. I told you. I can do it.”

“You think falling through time and distance can save her? Landing in that mud-spattered wallow that they crawl about in like feral swine? You don’t even know why they were driven from the land, let alone if death awaits you. What about you? Who can save you?” His brother barked with laughter, a short noise of jealousy and fear. “What if she doesn’t want to be saved? You’re a child. A favored pet who is loved because of his youth. You’re nothing but an amusement to this family.”

The wind blew harder as spots filled Keiron’s vision. He could not lose control, not now. He worked his jaw to let the words out. The sounds followed each other, chastened by the force of his will. “I have watched. I have learned. And I tell you, I am going, and she is worth saving.”

Garrick shrugged as the boredom returned to his face, now a mask of beautiful disinterest. “You actually care about them, don’t you? Those things down there? Those glorified cattle? Do you think they’re even capable of understanding us? We are not the benign, soft creatures that have been reshaped by their pitiful legends. We were born for war, not love. We are made to hurt, not heal.” He shook his head with a mocking grin. “You’ve always been weak, but this is beyond anything the family expected. It’s practically—”

“It’s decent, that’s the word you’re looking for.” Keiron’s voice was like iron, despite a small quiver at the end of his words. His jaw set again, and for an instant Garrick saw their grandfather’s stern profile there, lurking like a boulder under the surface of a still pool.

“You’re not even worth saving, let alone one of them.” Garrick’s eyes flicked down to the vista that unspooled under their feet, or perhaps it was above. It was difficult to tell with the curving horizon and shifting light. Part of what he saw was green, unlike their home. There were blue rivers, brown and green fields, and stony places worn by wind and weather. It was alien, but enticing. He let a woven cord of animal hide fall into his hand. On either end, a heavy molar prized from the jaw of a Windbeast acted as a weight. The teeth were well worn, and tied in with strands of fine leather. It had been a mature beast, killed to make things that the people of the wind needed. Like teeth. And rope.

“Then I belong with them, don’t I?” Keiron’s question was rhetorical.

Again, Garrick shrugged, this time with one shoulder. His lips peeled back to reveal perfect teeth, but there was no kindness in the gesture. “Fine, but you’ll need to know something first.” The cord spun outward from Garrick’s hand in a blur, spinning around Keiron’s wings with brutal efficiency. The weight of the heavy teeth spun the strand tight to bind him, flightless, as Garrick drew his sword and cut downward in a wicked blow that sent Keiron’s wings spinning away into the clouds below.

Paralyzed by pain and betrayal, Keiron stood swaying as Garrick stepped calmly forward, placing both hands on his brother and pushing him into a chaotic tumble from the ledge of House Windhook. Spatters of blood swept up and away in the swirling winds, the last sign of a boy who had been bound, and cut, and sent into the sky in less time than he had to register the sensation of being flightless and wounded.

Keiron’s stomach raged upward as glare and shadow coursed around him in a never-ending circle of dizzying light, and he began the long, cold fall through layers of sky and time that tore the scream from his throat even as it began.

From above, he heard Garrick’s last words, mocking and fat with poisonous joy. “Let us see if you can truly fly.”

Laura’s Review of Fall From India Place (On Dublin Street, #4) by Samantha Young

Synopsis
The New York Times bestselling author of On Dublin Street and Down London Road returns with a story about letting go of the past and learning to trust in the future...

When Hannah Nichols last saw Marco D’Alessandro, five long years ago, he broke her heart. The bad boy with a hidden sweet side was the only guy Hannah ever loved—and the only man she’s ever been with. After one intense night of giving into temptation, Marco took off, leaving Scotland and Hannah behind. Shattered by the consequences of their night together, Hannah has never truly moved on.

Leaving Hannah was the biggest mistake of Marco’s life, something he has deeply regretted for years. So when fate reunites them, he refuses to let her go without a fight. Determined to make her his, Marco pursues Hannah, reminding her of all the reasons they’re meant to be together.

But just when Marco thinks they’re committed to a future together, Hannah makes a discovery that unearths the secret pain she’s been hiding from him, a secret that could tear them apart before they have a real chance to start over again...

What I Loved
This story reminded me why I love Samantha Young so much.  It was so great to jump back into the world of Dublin Street and see how everyone’s lives have changed and moved along.  Plus, I was so excited to finally get to Hannah’s story and watch her blossom from the teenage girl I first met in On Dublin Street into a woman with a career and a life.

Immediately I was curious as to what the hell happened between Marco and Hannah and I couldn’t put the book down because I just NEEDED to find out!  But when I finally did, boy oh boy was it a doozy.  I’ve always liked Hannah, even though she was a background character she was an easy person to like, which made it so easy for me to fall absolutely in love with her.

The physical attraction between Hannah and Marco poured off the pages the minute they locked eyes on each other so many years later.  My heart broke for Hannah when Marco left her high and dry so it was kind of fun to watch Marco beg for her forgiveness for a little. It definitely made this story more enjoyable and hooked me instantly.

Not So Much
This was such a great story and I’ve always loved this series but there was a point where Hannah kind of annoyed me a little.  At a certain point I felt like the plot walked a fine line of being a little repetitive when Hannah kept on going back and forth.  I get that she was severely burned by Marco and she has every right to tread lightly when first seeing him again but her constant running got tiring after a while and I wanted to scream at her.  But I get it, you begin the story on Hannah’s side but soon enough her actions start to make you Marco’s number one fan.  Which just makes this story so much more enjoyable and engrossing.

To Sum It All Up!
Once again Samantha Young has hit a home run when it comes to the On Dublin Street series.  Hannah has always been a supporting character from the very first book so it was so wonderful for her to finally have her own story.  I was instantly emotionally engrossed in Marco and Hannah and wanted nothing more than for them to find their happy ending.  There were points where this beautiful story brought me to tears while other times I had a huge smile on my face. I love stories that take me for a ride on the emotional roller coaster and this one certainly fits the bill.  Not only was it amazing to get to Hannah’s story but to also see how Jocelyn, Johanna and the rest of the gang are doing and how their families have grown.  It’s so wonderful not only to see Marco and Jocelyn’s happily ever after but see all the others happily ever after as well.

What I Loved

Oh my god this story just made me fall in love, then broke my heart, then made me fall in love, then broke my heart then made me fall in everlasting love!!  I have always been a huge fan of Samantha Young, but this story made me worship the ground she walks on.  Right away you fall in love with Alexa Holland and even though your heart goes out to Caine Carraway, you kind of hate him for a little bit.  I love that Caine’s life story is laid out in the very beginning because in most romances the love interest reveals their story as the plot moves along, so this was a refreshing twist.  Not to say that Caine Carraway didn’t have anything to hide because TRUST me, he does!

I love that Alexa fights to get to Caine, to make him see the woman that Alexa is, not the legacy she carries around on her back.  She is a fierce woman and there wasn’t a moment that I didn’t love her. Of course, what I especially love is her smart mouth because she kept it interesting and funny, and I couldn’t wait to see what she would say next.

There is so much that happens in this book, and one of the best things that happens is the massive amount of hot sex that Caine and Alexa have.  I love hot angry sex scenes and there was a ton of those, but also sweet love scenes.   I could almost feel the tension between the two of them when all they wanted to do was just rip each other’s clothes off.  I love that there were times that they couldn’t even make it to the bed and just went at it on the floor.  The passion between Alex and Caine was sizzling and instead of taking away from the plot it just added to their love story exponentially.

Not So Much
This section is going to be very little, because truly loved this book so much.  I guess the only thing that kind of bothered me and not really that much is that there was a lot going on in this story.  Maybe take some of the crazy elements away to make the plot more streamlined and concise.  But I still loved Hero so so much!

To Sum It All Up!
This was a book that gave me a serious hangover, when I wasn’t reading it was I thinking about it and when I was reading I couldn’t get enough.  I loved all the drama and even though there might have been tears in my eyes at certain points it only made me love this story more.  I’m a sucker for roller coaster love stories, and Hero fit the bill.  There are a lot of twists and turns and I will towards the end things change dramatically and the plot takes a sharp turn that just had my heart pounding and my jaw on the floor.  I love the character development for not just the main characters but the supporting ones as well, it just helped me become more engrossed in the plot and made me happy not just Caine and Alexa but for everyone involved in this story.  Alexa fought for what she believed in, even when she didn’t want to fight anymore she still had hope and it she was written in such a way that you so badly want to this poor girl to be happy and you just know that the Caine is the man to do that.  Like I said before I have been a big fan of Samantha Young before this story has made me a fanatic!

First Impressions
This book is pretty good so far, I really appreciate the fact that if you haven’t read the rest of the books in this series you would still know what’s going on because it’s laid out pretty nicely.  I loved that we got to see more of Joss and Braden’s story and them finally get married that was really cute and very romantic.  I instantly fell in love with Nate even though even he’s a huge player and shags a different girl every week.  He fascinated me when we met him in Down London Road (On Dublin Street, #2), so I’m glad we get more of him in this book.   It’s great to have a story involving Olivia as well since her and her father relocated from the States to Edinburgh in the last book, she was the last person to join the fray in Down London Road and now she finally gets her own love story.  I love her shyness and how intimidated she is by men I think on some level every woman can relate to that somehow.

The book is a little slow going and I got kind of bored at certain points, I’m about 100 pages in and even though there’s been some dirty talk they haven’t even in kissed it.  I hope the physical parts of this book pick up soon so I can get more emotionally involved in Nate and Olivia.  Right now I just see them as platonic friends not really feeling the sexual tension between them there just needs to be more for me and I hope that’s coming soon.

Marchmont

What I Loved
I like the flashbacks to the past when Nate and Olivia first met, or seeing funny conversations they've had and such.  You get to see their friendship better this way and see what has been built from strangers to best friends and why that is.  I really love their playful relationship and the would you rather game they play constantly, especially at the end of the book.

I love that we not only go to see a new relationship begin but see the other ones from previous books grow and move forward.  A lot happens in this book with Braden and Joss and it only made me realize how I miss them, and how happy I was to see new things happen in their lives.  The same goes for Ellie and Adam, and Jo and Cam.

After reading Samantha Young’s book I immediately want to pack my things and move to Edinburgh, Scotland.  I love how the city around them is its own character in each book and you really get a feel for life in Edinburgh and all the beauty the city has to offer.  Plus the guys from around there seem pretty hot, I feel like I might have a hard time understand them at first but I’m sure if I spent enough time with time I would come around.  I have no problem spending more time with men so I can better understand them especially if they are anything like Adam, Braden, or Nate.  That would NOT be a hardship for me AT ALL!

Not So Much
I wish we got to see a little bit more of Nate and Olivia together.  I felt like because they didn't get together till the end of the book we didn't get to truly see them more settled in as a couple.  The epilogue helped but I want more Nate and Olivia!!!

Like I said before the book in the beginning was a little slow and I found it hard at times to keep my attention on the book.  I wish all that time it took them to come to agreement to start having sex didn't happen until I was about 70% through the book and that was just a little too slow for me.  The book definitely picked up once things got dramatic but it was just slow going in the beginning.

Overall

I have always really liked Samantha Young books and this one does not disappoint!  Nate and Olivia are awesome and their love story was so wonderful to read.  There were definitely some parts in the book I wanted to smack Nate or shake some sense into Olivia but they got their stuff together eventually.  I was very happy to come along on their roller coaster of a relationship and there are definitely parts where I could totally relate to how Liv was feeling and my heart broke for her.  I loved that we got to meet Nate’s parents in this book and find out more his past and Alana.  He was definitely a character that intrigued me in Down London Road so I was so happy to finally get down and dirty with him and see how he was going to dig himself out of the huge hole he had created.  I love the make shift family this group of friends has created and that they are always there for each other.  I would love to see a book about Hannah and Marco or a book involving Cole, eventually anyway since they are a little young for all that right now.  I love Samantha Young and I hope she continues writing this series it’s awesome!
