What I Loved
I absolutely loved the chemistry between Rafael and Julietta, the story begins with the two main characters running into each other at a club and pretty much immediately clothes are being ripped off.  I’m a big fan of stories that jump right into the plot and this one did exactly that.  Julietta couldn’t get enough of Rafael’s body and the feeling was definitely mutual!

There’s definitely a lot of twists and turns as the story moves along and what really sucked me into the book the most was the fact that this wasn’t just about Julietta and Rafael’s relationship.  There is a ton of suspense and lots of secrets swirling around Rafael and Julietta and I loved every single minute of it.  I literally couldn’t put my kindle down and just read straight through to the end.

Not So Much

I’ve said it a million times; DETAILS!! This book is lacking majorly in lot of details which annoyed me at times.  This entire story is supposed to take place in Chicago and when I finished reading and knew nothing more about Chicago.  It felt like the city was an inconsequential detail rather than a major setting.  The same can be said for many other background details; I don’t really know what Julietta’s apartment is decorated like or what Rafael’s house looks like at all.  At certain point, Rafael’s was described as wearing a “slick suit”, that’s not a description.  Tell me what color it is, what color the tie is or the shirt for that matter.  All these little details add up to creating bigger plot holes and don’t give the plot enough opportunity to established the depth needed to make this story out of this world amazing.

Another thing that really gets on my nerves is the wrong colloquialisms for American culture.  American’s don’t go on holiday ever; we take a vacation.  Also when describing someone that might leave when you tell them something they don’t like, we don’t call that a runner.  They bolt, they stomp out, or they simply walk away.  If I’m supposed to believe that these characters are American or at least grew up here, then please start using the right sayings!!
To Sum It All Up!
Overall I really enjoyed this book, it had all the elements I can’t get enough of in a romance.  First, there was plenty of physical attraction and sex.  Rafael exudes this aura of power and danger and it was hot! I loved how the two of them couldn’t get enough of each other at all times.  Second there were lies and deceit, I loved that probably the most because you know eventually shit will hit the fan and if I’m really sucked in it’s going to devastate me.  Third, tons of suspense and action; there was definitely a lot of bad shit going on in Rafael’s life and you just know that doesn’t mean good things for Julietta.

Also, I really loved that this story was about the mistress rather than the wife because it’s a new twist on a typical romance.  I did feel like there were a lot of mafia stereotypes being used which kind of rubbed me the wrong way at times.  Being from a state that is infamous for mafia involvement it’s not as out in the open and talked about so freely like it was in this book.  I do wish there were more details involved because it would’ve given the plot way more depth.

I’m going to warn you that there is a cliff hanger at the end so be prepared! If you’re not a fan of endings like that but really want to read this book, please wait until the next one comes out!  Personally I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

What I Loved
First of all I’m a huge sucker for second chance romances and lost loves coming back into people’s lives so this book was right up my alley!! Micah and Elsa always had this deep connection that no matter how many years went by could never really be broken and that was evident from beginning to end.  The love they felt for each other poured off the pages and immediately captured my heart.

I really loved that that the prologue was set five years in the past so we got to feel how much Elsa loved Micah and then five years later see how the devastation of losing him still affected her.  Also, you knew Elsa had this deep dark secret and I couldn’t wait to find out what it was and then you when do it just made me love her even more.  There are so many emotions that come up while reading this story and I thoroughly felt each and every single one of them.

I can truly say that both Elsa and Micah were strong characters that were easy to love from the very start.  Even though Micah doesn’t really come into the play until a little later on, you don’t entirely hate him and he almost immediately swept me off my feet.  The unconditional love he feels for Elsa is evident the second they lay eyes on each other again and to watch their love blossom was really amazing.
Not So Much
Right from the beginning the details for me were very much lacking in a lot of aspects.  The prologue has this great description of how beautiful Micah’s eyes are and how handsome he is, but the same attention is not paid to Elsa.  I get that most of this story is form her point of view and it’s hard to sometimes fit in a physical description right away, but when there is all this talk about the male character’s looks and not one description towards the female for a while, it starts to get on my nerves.  Of course after some time there is a physical description of Elsa but very limited compared to the male character in the book and I can’t stand when the female lead doesn’t get the same attention paid towards her as the male character does.

Also towards the end there are a ton of details about the house and the clothing and all those kind of background descriptions that are important, but in the beginning of the book there was very little if not anything.  There wasn’t really any detail about Liza and Elsa’s apartment or even what kind of neighborhood they live in.  All those little things are so important when setting the foundation for aplot and I found those lack of details frustrating.

Another thing that kind of annoyed me as well was the sappiness and maybe that’s just me so I’m not going to knock the story too much for that.  I just felt like at times, especially the male characters, were written a little too cheesy for my taste.  But that’s just my opinion, I’m a sucker for a strong alpha character who doesn’t cry a lot so when I come across criers it’s a big turn off for me.

To Sum It All Up!
Overall this was a very quick and easy ready for me that captured my heart and put me through all kind of emotions.  I really enjoyed the premise and like I said before I’m a sucker for second chance romances and this one fit the bill!  I loved watching Micah and Elsa rediscover each other again as adults not as high school kids and build a life together no matter how difficult it may be.

There were some parts toward the end I did feel were a little rushed to maybe sum it all up and finish the story so I wish it was maybe a few pages longer but I get it.  It could just be that I wanted more Elsa and Micah together!  The love that these two share is truly remarkable and the chemistry between them sparked the second they saw each other after five years no matter the drama going on around them. This was my first Heidi Lis book and I can officially say I’m a fan now and can’t wait to read her other ones.  If you’re looking for a cute emotional New Adult Romance then this is certainly the story for you!

Heidi grew up in the Midwest, but currently resides with her husband and four children in the Pacific Northwest. Heidi most enjoys spending time outdoors with her family. Between raising her children and obsessing over her favorite reads, she has let the storyteller within herself come to life.

With the love and support of her family, she is following her dream while teaching her children how important it is to follow theirs. She prides herself in believing that anything is possible, the first step is believing in yourself.

Heidi's passionate and loving style in which she lives her life comes through in her writing. Her heart has led her down the genre path of a contemporary and suspense romance writer, but she has plans to extend her vision into other genres as well.

Lauren's Review of Arouse (Spiral of Bliss #1) by Nina Lane

Summary:  "One day I'm going to touch you in a thousand different ways and show you how to touch me," he said. And he did.

Struggling with a tormented past, undergraduate Olivia Winter once led a practical but isolated life. Then she met Professor Dean West, a brilliant scholar of medieval history who melted Liv's inhibitions and taught her the meaning of both love and erotic pleasure. But after three years of a blissful, lusty marriage, Liv and Dean now face a crisis that threatens everything they believe about each other. And when dark secrets and temptations rise to the surface, the fallout might break them apart forever.

Rating: 3.5 Stars

Anyone wanna make a souffle?

What I Liked:  This story is real.  The characters are believable people who you can relate to and you feel you could be friends with anyone of them.  I think it is safe to say we have all had similar relationship issues like Liv and Dean.  I also liked the flashbacks that gave us a glimpse into their past and how they fell in love with each other.  By far, my favorite character was Kelsey.  Everyone needs a Kelsey in their life. A true friend that’s not afraid to be blunt and tell you like it is.

Favorite Line: “Maybe this was meant to
happen, this discovery of cracks where now a different, new light can shine through.”

Not So Much: Ahhh Liv! That girl was not for me.  First of all, she was all about INDEPENDENCE. Growing up with a mother who relied on men for everything, you would think she would have stayed on path and developed a way for her to support herself first.  Instead, she took a step back from her dreams to let Dean pursue his.  What the F!!! Find your own way first.  This is one of the main reasons I felt that Liv kept looking for reasons to be mad at Dean; like she wanted a reason for the relationship to fail.  Sneaking around and going through his things like she can’t trust him when she is the one who can’t be trusted. If Liv had stayed on course and became who she wanted to be, I don’t think the relationship would have been so rocky.

Because the story focuses so much on their troubles and it really dives into the depths of their relationship, it loses the thrill and can drag.  Sometimes I like to write my review while I’m reading so I don’t forget to include certain points I want to make but the whole time I was reading, I had no idea where I was going to go with this review. Some parts keep you eager to keep going and other parts my eyes wandered over the text. To me, the book was eh.  Nothing to write home about.

Overall:  If you are looking for something real world – pick this one.

Lauren's Review of The Bossman by Renee Rose

Summary: Sophie Palazzo steered clear of the mafia after her father's involvement ended with his murder. Fifteen years later, Joey La Torre, the Don's brother himself, shows up unannounced at her massage studio and wheedles his way into a date. She has no interest in aggressive, macho men like Joey, or so she tries to tell herself, but her body just doesn't get the message. When Joey takes her in hand with a firm bare-bottomed spanking, she ought to be furious, instead, she's aroused. As she explores her physical desires to be dominated, she tries to keep Joey at arm's length emotionally.

Joey knows he wants Sophie for keeps from the moment he walks into her life. She is hot, classy and full of fire, even though submission turns her on. But his involvement in the mafia is a hard limit for her, bringing to conflict his own dedication to the Family, the code of silence and his relationship with his older brother. Can he reconcile his duty to the organization and his growing need for Sophie to remain in his life permanently?

Rating: 3.5 Stars

What I Liked: Holy Moly! Be careful where you read this! This book is filled with super-hot moments and lots and lots of spanking. If you enjoy spanking, this book is definitely for you. I was reading it at the hair salon and I had to cross my legs and make the font smaller so my hairdresser couldn’t read over my shoulder.

Because of my Italian nationality, I was interested to dive right into some Italian mafia hotties. I There is something so sexy about a tough guy who will fuck your brains out but then cuddle with you right after. I fell for Joey immediately in the first scene at the massage parlor. He is the perfect blend of dominant bad boy without crossing that line of becoming a douche. I wouldn’t mind a guy like Joey putting me over his knee once in a while.

The story flows and the writing is descriptive and engaging.

Favorite Line: “You’re a good girl. You don’t want anything to do with a bad boy like me. Except bad boys can be exciting…don’t you think?”

Not So Much: Towards the end of the book, it gets frustrating how many times Sophie overplays how she can’t be with someone that is in the mafia but she continuous puts herself into situations with to be involved with them.

Joey sums her up perfectly when he says, “Sophie was a little package of enigmas. She needed the money, but didn’t seem to like it. Had a college degree, but preferred to work with her hands. She resented his aggression, yet craved being spanked. She was of the Family, yet against it.”

Apparently, Joey is doomed for a lifetime of confusion.

Also, there needed to be spacers between the writing at certain points. POV would change within a sentence without a break and it would get confusing at times. I am not sure if this was just my copy but it would throw me off when it switched so close together.

Overall: Leave the gun, take the book.
