Lauren's Review of Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren

I am not going to lie, around 19% in, I thought I was going to have to stop reading this book. Hazel was not my cup of tea. I felt she was super annoying and there was no way I was going to put up with her for the length of the book. However, I pushed my way through and found around 25% in, she calmed down a bit.

I found the Hazel and Josh dynamic interesting and enjoyed the blind double dating. It was cute meeting new possibilities for Hazel and Josh and then seeing how they tie back into each other in the end. I would love to see this as a rom com on the big screen.

Also, it was very pleasing to have a Korean male lead in the story and to introduce a lot of the culture into the story. Kudos for that!

Lauren's Review of Picture Perfect Cowboy by Tiffany Reisz

Spanking ü
Sub/Dom Play ü
Ropes ü
Flogging ü

I needed to spice up my life a little, so I requested from NetGalley, Picture Perfect Cowboy by Tiffany Reisz.  Back in 2013, I read both The Siren and The Angel and while both books had tremendously hot and sexy sex scenes, at times some of the BDSM situations were a bit much for me. However, sometimes you have to go back to author and see what they have up their sleeve, so I jumped on the opportunity to read this book.

YEEHAW Jason “Still” Waters!! Reisz wastes no time getting the Jason and Simone story started. The two of them are just so darn cute together that I think I blushed a few times while reading. Two opposite people from two different completely different worlds with ONE thing in common and that is really all you need. Find that common ground whatever it may be, and the sparks are flying. My favorite in this book was mostly Jason and watching him grow into himself. It is an important part of life realizing who you are and being okay about the taboo things that turn you on and Reisz captured that perfectly.

This is a hot and fun but quick ride with a little sumthin sumthin at the end of it.

Laura’s Review of The Last Guy By Ilsa Madden-Mills & Tia Louise

Synopsis
The first rule of office romance is don’t do it—especially if your dream is to hold the anchor spot on the nightly news and your boss is trying to get you fired.

But one look at Cade Hill, the sexy new sports director, and uptight reporter Rebecca Fieldstone is daydreaming about other things.

Sex in his office…
Sex in the on-set kitchen…
Sex in the supply closet…

She can’t stop thinking about the former NFL quarterback and how perfect he’d look between her sheets—except he’s an arrogant jerk with a huge… ego.

He’s the last guy she’d ever have a one-night stand with.

Cade Hill draws a thick professional line on office romance—until it comes to the hyper-focused Rebecca. He wants her, and he gets his wish when a chance encounter has them having the hottest sex of their lives.

It’s just a hook-up, she says.
When can we do it again? he says.

With Rebecca determined to keep Cade in the friend zone, it’s going to be an uphill battle for Cade to convince her he’s the last guy she’ll ever want.

THE LAST GUY is the first white-hot CONTEMPORARY ROMANTIC COMEDY from Wall Street Journal bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills and Tia Louise. It features Fireball-fueled hookups, Doritos Locos Tacos, attack monkeys, toddlers in tiaras, and one fabulous drag queen. Prepare for frantic clicking (or page flipping!) and smoking-hot sexytimes all the way to the out-of-this-world happily-ever-after.
What I Loved
First, I loved the hot sexual chemistry between Rebecca and Cade.  Right from the start it was obvious how attracted these two were to each other and watching them fight that for a while was pretty cute especially when they finally got to ripping each other’s clothes off.  Let me just say, when they finally do get down and dirty you will not be disappointed in the least!  The sex scenes were many and I loved every single one of them!

Not only was the romance sizzling, the comedy was quite funny as well.  The book starts out pretty funny from Rebecca’s point of view and things get a little crazy from there.  I would say there were definitely times that I was laughing out loud, and then there were times that my heart broke a little.  I love stories that can balance romance and comedy, with one element not taking away from the other this plot struck that equation perfectly.

Not So Much
I really like the premise of the book and the chemistry between Rebecca and Cade but there were times that the story just got a little too corny for me. Also, I felt like the characters became very stereotypical, fitting into certain boxes of what people would think they should act like and that got played up too much.  The love between Cade and Rebecca was great but laid on too thick towards the end and it turned me off a little.

To Sum It All Up!
Overall this was a cute easy read that I thoroughly enjoyed.  I loved the attraction between Rebecca and Cade and the sex scenes between were nothing short of sizzling! There are so many sex scenes to choose from I can’t tell you which one was my favorite because I loved them all.  I also loved the constant craziness that surrounded Rebecca during her news stories, they were freaking hilarious and for me as the reader endeared her more to me.

The character development was great, and I did feel like I got to know both main characters well and what made them tick as people apart from their romance.  Although, I did feel like the secondary characters stories kind of got shuffled away because they were of no consequence to the actual plot.  The pace of the story was right on point and there was a ton of amazing detail added in.  It was easy to imagine just how sexy and easy-going Cade was, and how beautiful yet frazzled Rebecca was.  Like I said earlier, I did feel like the story but for me, it got a little too corny towards the end for me.  I just wanted to say, “cut it out with all the lovey dovey crap.”  But, if you’re looking for an erotic, funny read than this totally the book for you!

Laura’s Review of Hyde’s Absolution (Sydney Storm MC, #4) By Nina Levine

Synopsis
Monroe Lee is a handful.
She fights me, challenges me and tries to resist me.

Where I’m jagged, she’s smooth.
Where I’m dark, she’s pure.
Where I’m broken, she’s whole.

I am not a good man.
I’ve hurt everyone I’ve ever loved.
I should walk away before I ruin her too.

But fuck, we are fire together.
And I’ve been out in the cold too long.

At a time when everything is falling down around me, she might just be my saviour.

This story contains all the panty-melting sexiness and alpha goodness that Nina Levine books are known for.

This series is best read in order

What I Loved
I was so happy to jump back into the Sydney Storm MC world and get into Hyde’s story, he’s always been somewhat of an elusive character that I wasn’t quite sure how I felt about. As much as I couldn’t wait to get back into this world, I didn’t know how I would feel about reading his story because I didn’t exactly love Hyde.  Saying that, by the end of the story I was fully invested in him and fell in love with him!

I loved how the story opened, showing you Hyde’s past and then fast forwarding to the present and to show you the true impact of his decisions.  I can see why people would be turned off by Hyde for his past choices, but for me what he went through and how it killed him made me understand him more and endear him more to me.  Also, I love his alpha attitude because it made him damn sexy lots of times throughout the book and I loved his attraction to Monroe from the start.

Monroe was character that I liked from the very beginning, her spunk and attitude makes her a no bullshit type of gal which is right up my alley. I loved how she always stood up for her convictions and didn’t take shit from no one, including Hyde.  I loved the fights between them as much as I loved their attraction and how all that lead to massive sparks.
Not So Much
My only real complaint about the story was I felt like the plot of Sydney Storm and Hyde’s back story became too big in comparison to the love story.  I get that this series has an overarching plot linking the series together but Monroe didn’t come into the story until a couple chapters in, and for a minute I was confused if this story was about Hyde and his ex-wife or Hyde and Monroe.  I didn’t have a problem with laying out Hyde’s plot and his backstory per say, but as a reader you are so deep into it and then suddenly it switches to Monroe, when I felt like that should’ve happened a little bit earlier on.  This is supposed to be a romance at its core, and I felt like that got over shadowed at times.

To Sum It All Up!
Overall, I was happy with Hyde’s Absolution, I always love the drama and suspense in every Storm MC book and this one is no exception.  I’ve always been a fan of a series that has a common plot throughout it because you can really amp up the suspense and tension, and with every book that is exactly what is happening in this series.  The violence and drama amps up significantly in this one and breaks your heart at certain points, I will not say more than that because I don’t want to give anything away.

I loved Monroe’s attitude and her passion, I think she is what sucked me into this story the most and kept me reading.  In so many ways this girl is my hero because she puts up with zero bullshit and lays it all out there when it’s needed.  Also, I loved the chemistry between her and Hyde because they fed off each other so well and the sexual attraction between them sizzled all the time.  Even though their love came at an inconvenient time, they made it work and I loved how Hyde still dedicated his time to Monroe with all the shit swirling around his life.  I really enjoyed their journey together and watching them fall in love and build a life together.  There is a cliff hanger at the end leading the reader into the next book in this series, which I cannot wait for, so if you hate cliff hangers wait until King’s Wrath comes out.

Laura’s Review of Adrift (Kill Devil Hills, #4) by Sarah Darlington

Synopsis
What happens when the world thought you were dead and now suddenly you aren’t?

Ben Turner is back! Not quite as dead as everyone thought, fresh out of a nine-month stay in prison, and back home in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. Having been dishonorably discharged after charges of desertion from the military, this once well-loved local has fallen from the top. With no plans for college or the future, and hated by the town that once loved him, Ben feels like he’s drowning all over again.

Juniper is pregnant, alone, and running from her crazy fiancé. With only enough money for a one-way bus ticket, she heads to Kill Devil Hills, NC, a town she vacationed in as a little girl, a town she knows, come February, will have plenty of beach rentals to lie low in for the next couple months. Except she didn’t plan on getting caught on day one by the man living next door. Ben. He’s a man who has even more problems than she does, but maybe it’ll take a man like Ben to save her life.

**NEW ADULT ROMANCE**
Recommended for 18+. ADRIFT can be read as a standalone, but is recommended to be read fourth in Sarah Darlington's KILL DEVIL HILLS Series.

What I Loved
I have been waiting for so long to finally get my hands on Ben’s story.  This man literally came back from the dead, a death which was so poignant in book one of the series and I wanted answers.  What made Ben walk away from his family and friends, leave all the popularity behind and fake his own death?  I’m not going to spoil anything and tell you why, but I will say you do find out and I hope, like me, you’ll like it.

I ate up this story for so many reasons one of which was because Ben was a compelling character in this series already and the story finally being from his point of view continued that feeling.  The story begins with him trying to pick up the pieces of his life that he so casually threw away, only to come back and everything be so different.  That’s when he meets this red headed hotty living next store that doesn’t judge him from his past actions, because she has no clue who he is.

Juniper’s back story grabs your heart from the moment the book switches to her point of view.  She’s desperate and with next to nothing to her name she ends up in Kill Devil Hills.  When she sneaks into an abandoned beach house for the winter, she never expected to fall for the hot neighbor boy but it was obvious from the start there was definite chemistry between them.  As you come to find out Juniper messes up a lot along the way but you still love her anyway, very much the same way you love Ben.  He messed up faking his death but you still want him to be happy at the end of it all.

Not So Much
When everything comes to a head towards the end, I felt like it all kind of just ended and then was swept under the rug and not thought out.  It was like the plot just ended with no further explanation because it stopped serving its purpose.  To me, the lack of follow through made the entire story feel shallow and not giving the plot the emotional depth it was due.  The book just moves along from a scary scene to a happy one and it all felt a little unfinished.  I also wish there was more depth with the secondary characters towards the end.   They were important characters throughout the series and as a reader you become invested in all their stories, and they were all just left unfinished in some ways or with little explanation.  I felt like they deserved more than that.

To Sum It All Up!
Overall this was a fun quick book to read and I’m happy I did.  Ben was someone I wasn’t sure I was going to really get behind.  From reading the rest of the books in this series, Ben doesn’t come out looking too good.  Which is fair, because he made a lot of selfish decisions that hurt the people that love him the most.  When he does come back to Kill Devil Hills, he expects it to be as he left it and is almost upset when it isn’t.  But as the story unfolds and I learned more about Ben Turner, my heart warmed up to him, especially when it came to his feelings for Juniper.

The Chemistry between the two of them was instantaneous even though circumstances were not ideal for either of them.  Juniper needed someone who would support her no matter what and Ben became her savior in so many ways.  I loved Juniper’s attitude and spirit and she made it easy for me to fall in love with their story.  There is some suspense sprinkled into this budding romance and it made the story more appealing.  It was wonderful watching these two fall in love with one another, and to see Ben get what he’s been missing for so many years was heartwarming.  I do wish there was more follow through with the story then was granted but other than that this was a great read.

What I Loved

When I found out that Aleatha Romig was writing a romantic comedy even though she usually does dark, there was no doubt in my mind that I would enjoy this book, and of course I really did.  The story starts out in New York City, where Kimbra works in the HR department of a large pharmaceuticals company and just so happens to have a crush on one of its owners, Duncan Willis.  Right away you’re introduced to Kimbra’s eccentric mother and relatable personality. She was someone that made the story easy for me to be emotionally sucked in to and kept me entertained at the same time.  Kimbra is hard as nails when she needs to be but can also be loyal to her family that constantly gives her a hard time.  Even for a story that is filled with romance and comedy the character of Kimbra has many layers and brings so much to the story giving the foundation tons of depth.

Duncan Willis seems to be the man that has everything, a millionaire playboy with the looks and money to it all up.  He has the reputation of women never being able to say no to him and the minute I met him, I knew exactly why!  He is one hot millionaire that I couldn’t get enough of, perfect isn’t the word to describe him because he’s so much more than that.  I loved the chemistry between him and Kimbra, it poured off the pages and there were so many sex scenes to choose from I can’t really say which one was my favorite because they were all off the charts hot!

Not So Much

I really enjoyed the beginning and middle of the plot but towards the end when the drama was kicked up a notch it kind of felt like things got rushed a long.  There was kind of a cloud hanging over their relationship from the beginning and when it all comes to a head it’s barely mentioned because the story went in another direction.  I don’t want to put any spoilers in here so it’s hard to explain, but basically there is an element in the book that could cause a lot of drama for them and to me, the plot was building towards that moment and then suddenly it wasn’t really mentioned again.  I got that other more dramatic things happened but the story would’ve had a lot more brevity to it if that drama would’ve been able to play out as well.  I didn’t understand why a story would build up something and then sweep it under the rug like that.

Excerpt
I'm in an alternate universe and it's every fantasy I never knew I had.
What CEO of a billion-dollar company dreams of enjoying a farm in the middle of nowhere? Who imagines waking in a small bedroom, complete with a canopy bed and sunshine streaming through pink curtains, as birds sing? What owner of a 7,000-square-foot penthouse with a to-die-for view of the Empire State Building enjoys the hominess of a hundred-year-old, 3,000-square-foot farmhouse with a wraparound porch, creaky floors, and a view of cornfields?
Sitting with a cup of steaming black coffee, I listen as Kimbra and her brother Kevin bicker back and forth while helping their mother in the large eat-in kitchen. The warm spring air is filled with the sizzle of frying as the aroma of coffee, eggs, and bacon reminds me of some of the best diners in New York.
Although Kimbra's dad, Oscar, is talking, I can't concentrate on anything but Kimbra—Kimberly Ann. That's what everyone here calls her.
"Because of you, I'm out ten bucks." Kevin says, not doing a good job of whispering.
"Me?" Kimbra asks. "What did I do?"
Kevin tilts his head my way. "You brought a real guy here. I put money on him being made up."
Kimbra reaches out and punches his shoulder.
He lifts his hands in surrender. "No. Listen. I was sure it was a good bet. When Mom said your boyfriend's name wasn't Timothy, but Duncan, and you didn't want him in the wedding, Susan and I figured he wasn't real. I bet Jimmy ten bucks this fake Duncan guy would be a no-show. Susan and I were sure that before last night, you'd have some reason why at the last minute he couldn't attend. You know, like you’d make up some accident or something."
Her brother is about as good at speaking softly as he is at being nice to his sister.
"Shut up!" Kimbra whispers back. "Obviously he's real."
Kevin's head falls back in laughter. "He's real, all right. Last night I thought your old bed was going to collapse."
Kimbra's eyes flash to me. And though I look down at my coffee and pray her dad isn't listening, the gleam in her expression makes my cock twitch with the memories of the night before.

Laura’s Review of Sweet Spot by Stella Rhys

Synopsis

Our first meeting as neighbors was screwed from the start.
He was hot. I was naked. And we had no chance in hell at ever being platonic.

I’ll be the first to admit that I live at extremes. After going ten years locked in what felt like a dysfunctional marriage, I’m now decidedly boy-free. In nearly three years I’ve had no boyfriends, no flings, no dates and no sex. For the sake of my dream career, the sacrifice has been easy.

At least it was.

Until he came along.

Lukas Hendricks. He’s rude, gorgeous, arrogant – a stone-carved wall of muscle and distraction. He’s everything I know to avoid but there’s no avoiding your next-door neighbor. Oh yeah. The man now lives three steps from me and to make matters worse, he crashed into my life while I was relaxed in the tub – mortifying to say the least and it went something like this: I was exposed. He looked. He laughed.

And then I locked myself out.

In short, Lukas Hendricks was trouble from the start. And me?

I was – for the first time in years – about to be screwed.

What I Loved
This was a cute fun read that I really enjoyed. The story opens with Lia trying to have a nice relaxing night alone when Lukas comes along and shakes things up for her. Right away the entire scenario put a smile on my face, it might’ve had something to do with a semi naked and very wet Lia, or it could’ve been the smart-ass but hot new neighbor, Lukas.

From then on, their relationship and feelings for each other grow no matter how much they fight it.  I loved how Lukas teased Lia constantly, it totally took the sexual tension between the two of them up several notches and I couldn’t wait for them to start ripping each other’s clothes off.

Lukas might come across as a total smartass, a man whore who plays by his own rules.  But as the story continues you learn there is so much more to this amazing man.  I love all the different sides to Lukas, he added so much more depth to the plot and sucked me in emotionally.

Not So Much
Overall I have no huge complaints about this story.  There were some aspects that I wished more details were added in when it came to background descriptions.  Also, there were some inconsistencies with characters that had me a little whiplashed at times.  One minute a certain character would be all nice and sweet and then the next they were evil with no real transition.  It was just oddly written to me, it didn’t make sense.  I got the reasoning behind it but just the way it was written, it came off broken and had me shaking my head.

To Sum It All Up!
I really loved watching Lia and Lukas fall in love with each other no matter how much they didn’t want to.  Lukas wasn’t looking for a relationship with anyone, never wanting to settle down, thinking he didn’t deserve that.  There was so much to this character that by the end I can promise you, you will fall head over heels in love with this man.

Lia, on the other hand had my heart right away.  I loved her spunk and how she risked it all to follow her dreams no matter what people thought of her.  She worked hard for everything she got and because of Lia I was emotionally invested in this story instantly.  My heart broke along with hers, and when she was happy so was I! If you are someone who loves a steamy story that involves truffles and smart ass males then this is the book for you!
