Laura’s Review of Unlocked (The Alpha Group, #3) by Maya Cross

Synopsis

The breathtaking conclusion to the USA Today best selling Alpha Group Series.

Who is Sebastian Lock?

The heart can lead you to dangerous places. Abandoned by the man she loves, with nothing more than sweet words and riddles for an explanation, Sophia Pearce felt like her life was crumbling before her eyes. And then they came for her. Now, things will never be the same.

Confronted with the truth about Sebastian’s identity, she’s thrust into a high stakes world beyond anything she could have imagined. A world that threatens much more than just her feelings. Sebastian’s enemies will stop at nothing to get what they want, and they want her.

Their passion for one another consumes them, but as the danger mounts, and loyalties are tested, Sophia must answer one simple question. What is she willing to risk for love?

**This book is approximately 55,000 words, or about 200 printed pages. It contains erotic content and a dominant man who always gets what he wants in the bedroom. It is intended for readers aged 18 and over.**

What I Loved
First of all, whoa! Locked Out ends with a huge cliffhanger and thankfully Unlocked picked right back up so you don’t miss a beat.  Sophia is immediately faced with uncertain circumstances and you don’t know what is going to happen next.  I loved every freaking minute of it!

I like that this story changed a little in that the book switched point of views so we got more of a whole story rather than just from Sophia’s.  I loved it because you got to really see Sebastian’s feelings for Sophia and just how much she has changed his life.

All of Sebastian’s secrets come pouring out of this story so the mystery that is Sebastian is no more! Plus there was just a ton of suspense in this one that just added to the overall reading experience.  I was completely engrossed the entire time and I don’t want to give too much away, but I’m very intrigued with candle wax and ice now.

Not So Much
As much as I loved this entire series and this book added a whole new dimension and at certain points the plot just got a little too farfetched to me.  I get that this is fiction and it’s not supposed to be real but there is a fine line between fantasy and ridiculous and at times I felt like this plot skirted that line.

I loved that Sebastian finally started to spill his guts, and we learned so much.  But I also felt like it was kind of rushed through and rambled rather than organized and explained.  The reader gets to learn more about Sebastian’s past, but I felt like it was just barely scratching the surface and nothing was elaborated the way it should be.  There is so much going on, and that’s great but some of the back stories were kind of ignored.  For example, Sophia’s friends which were key people in her life, are barely mentioned at all.

To Sum It All Up!

Wow, what a story this one was! Suspense I don’t think covers what happened as Sebastian and Sophia’s story moves on.  The very dark seedy sides to Sebastian play a huge part in this segment and they of course lead to very dangerous situations.  Although there might not have been as much sex and chemistry in this one, that was fine with me because that wasn’t the main point of this last book.  There’s some definitely close calls, but by the end of this series it’s obvious how much Sebastian and Sophia are meant to be together and will be together for the rest of their lives.  Of course things work out in the end, there are definitely lots of bumps along the way but I finished this series with a smile on my face.
