Laura’s Review of Lockout (The Alpha Group, #2) by Maya Cross

Synopsis

Who is Sebastian Lock?

Sophia had never felt attraction like that before. Raw. Electric. Irresistible. Swept off her feet by the dashing, enigmatic billionaire Sebastian Lock, she was taken on a journey of self-discovery, taken to places she never dreamed she’d go.

But things are never as simple as they appear. Sophia’s trust is a fragile thing, and Sebastian seems insistent on testing it. He has his own demons to battle, and nobody has brought them to the fore like she has.

As their relationship deepens, and Sophia begins to break down his walls, all that greets her are more questions. Why is Sebastian fighting so hard to keep her at a distance? Who is the girl on the background of his phone? And why does the strange tattoo on his chest seem so familiar?

These puzzles plague her, but as Sebastian’s mysteries begin to unravel, she must face an entirely different truth. Staying in the dark may be painful, but finding the answers could be deadly.

What I Loved

This story picks up right where Locked left off, with Sophia heartbroken trying to pick up the pieces and move on from Sebastian.  Of course, this doesn’t happen and after Sebastian explains himself, it’s back on! I loved that we got to see more of Sebastian in this segment, and delved more into his life.  We meet more characters that become a part of his foundation and add to the overall experience. Not only is there more sexy Sebastian time (which did not disappoint) we get to peel back those layers he has, which had me falling more and more in love with him.

As their relationship builds though of course more questions start to pop up, which I really loved because it’s what kept me addicted to Sophia and Sebastian and their new love for one another.  The chemistry is back in a huge way and I must say the sex scenes in this one were even better than in Locked.  Sebastian knows how to be one powerful Dom when he needs to be, but also loving, caring, and supportive when it’s necessary as well.  I love that both Sophia and Sebastian became more complex characters, it definitely added to their development and building a more solid foundation for this story.

Not So Much

Again I felt like the details weren’t evenly distributed from scene to scene.  I would’ve liked to have gotten more details concerning the backgrounds, like Sophia’s office and where she lived.  It’s nice to see how a home reflects a character’s personalities because reinforces this person’s foundation and ultimately their story.  I don’t get that at all from this story or the one before it.  Plus there isn’t solid description of Sophia herself, I have no idea what color her hair is, or what color eyes she has.  The male lead, Sebastian on the other hand always has a solid description of his looks.  It annoys me when more details are paid the male lead and not the female it put them on less equal footing and development.

To Sum It All Up!

I really loved that this story because we start to crack the Sebastian shell in this one. We not only learn more about him but we get to meet his co-workers and friends as well.  The reader gets a glimpse of the world Sebastian lives in and even if it satisfies some cravings to get to know more about him it just makes me want more and I loved it! Once again there is some BDSM, mixed in with tenderness and pure animal lust, and after each scene I wanted to scream “give me more!”  There is a huge cliffhanger at the end of this that left me breathless, so be aware to have your jaw on the ground, NEEDING to start the next book.
