Laura’s Review: The Rock Chick Series by Kirsten Ashley

Okay since I just finished Rock Chick Revolution (Rock Chick #8) by Kristen Ashley, I thought I would write about the series as a whole since this is the last book in the series.

Basic Summary:  This book takes place in Denver, Colorado the first book the back drop being a bookstore named Fortnum’s.  The series starts with the Nightingale family, whole throughout the series even though are tons more characters and stories involved, it all kind of rotates around the Nightingales.  If you have read other Kristen Ashley books, Lee Nightingale and Ally Nightingale are mentioned throughout her other books.  Basically each book starts out with a beautiful girl, falling in with one of Lee Nightingale’s boys or Lee himself (the first book), since Lee is the president of his own special ops private investigations company there are tons of hot men falling in love with hot girls.  The girls form a family/group called The Rock Chicks hence the name of the series.  Great rock-n-roll is the backdrop of most books, and with each rock chick comes new dangers and hijinks.  There is always trouble to had for each girl, and each girl has a hero there to rescue her.  Basically, someone gets hurt, kidnapped, shot at, and beat up in almost every book.

What I love about this series:  Amongst all the shooting, yelling, punches, kicks, etc. There are some really great raw moments as well, where the main character which is usually the girl experiences something soul changing.  In Rock Chick redemption the damsel in distress Roxie has a very real moment involving her tied handcuffed and beat up in a dirty motel.  In Rock Chick Renegade, Jules the lovely lady in the book has a very dramatic scene where you are not quite sure if she will even live.  I don’t want to go into too many details because then I will totally spoil it for you but you get the drift here.
On top of all this, there some hilarious scenes and I mean hilarious!!!!! Tex is probably one of the best supporting characters that has ever existed.  He is definitely the comic relief in the books, even though the main characters can make you make you laugh all on their own sometimes he just adds the awesome to it.  There are so many amazing supporting characters that you don’t just fall in love with the main characters but everyone too.  You become so emotionally invested in everyone’s stories and you want every single person of that Fortnum’s crowd to have a happily ever after as well.

My favorite book is really hard to choose from because I love each one for different reasons.  I think my favorite bad boy is Luke Stark in Rock Chick Revenge (Rock Chick #5), he’s just hot with a capital H! The most tragic bad boy back story is probably Mace in Rock Chick Reckoning  (Rock Chick#6), his back story deals with his half-sister being murdered right in front of him and your heart just breaks for him and his struggle.  Mace ends up falling in love a true Rock Chick named Stella who becomes a famous singer and ends up moving to LA where a new series will involve their adventures on the west coast.  Other than Jules dramatic moment, I think one of the most heart wrenching Rock Chick moments takes place in Rock Chick Regret with Sadie who sadly is sexually assaulted.  Being a woman and reading that scene was very difficult and just completely heart breaking.

Rock Chick is the very last book, and as the series began with a Nightingale, it ends with one as well. Each epilogue and the books show you a happy future for each character and it’s awesome to read that.  It’s great to see that not only do these people who you truly grow to love have a happily ever after but they have formed a family around them that just grows and grows.  Each couple continues their lives together happy and content and many times children are definitely involved.  My favorite epilogue was probably in Rock Chick Reckoning where it involved each couple not just the main ones in that story line.  Most of these books are written from the perspective of the damsel in distress lately, sometimes they switch it up and have the bad boys point of view scattered throughout the books.  In Rock Chick Reckoning you get the point of view of past main characters and it makes you realize just how much you miss them all.  Kristen Ashley is very good at switching point of views to add to the story which makes her books all the more magical.  I absolutely worship the ground this author walks on.  There is no other author like her, her books are tragic, bitter sweet, funny, heartfelt, serious, sarcastic, and so much more all in one.  The sex scenes are awesome as well, not too detailed if you aren’t into erotica but just enough to get you going.  I will never forget this series, and I cried a little as I ended Rock Chick Revolution knowing that although I might see these characters again I’m going to miss Fortnum’s and the hilarity that ensues when a new Rock Chick comes to town.

Cons:  I don’t have too many negative things to say about these books, maybe at some points I felt like it’s bogged down in details.  I felt like I could skip a whole paragraph and not miss anything because of all the details.  I know I complain about lack of details and I do compare a lot of books details to Kristen Ashley books because I love how her details can really create the atmosphere of a scene but sometimes I’m like okay I get it already move on.  Also sometimes I feel the beginnings of the books are a little slow going but when it gets to the crook of the story it goes full speed ahead which makes up for that part.

Overall:  I love this series!!!!!!!! I absolutely love this series!!! I cannot thank Kristen Ashley enough for creating this series, for bringing the bad boys hot bunch, and the rock chicks into my life!!  I love these books so much that I am ready this very minute to pick and move to Denver and live there the rest of my life.  Kristen Ashley didn’t just create compelling story lines but a whole world so rich with love, laughter, tears, heart break, new beginnings, and so much more.  I don’t just love the individual stories, I love the family that these series has created even though they may not all be blood relatives, this groups of characters is so strong there is no breaking them apart.   Luke Stark is probably my favorite hot bunch bad boy, but Mace’s story was probably the most the compelling for me.  I will always love the couple that started it all though, Indy and Lee.  It’s sad to see this series come to end, but they definitely went out with a bang!  I know that Fortnum’s and the gang will be seen throughout the other series that Kristen Ashley has created but it won’t be the same.  Good bye Rock Chicks and Hot Bunch, I will probably read this series over and over again for years to come!!!
