Laura's Review: Perfect Fit (Serendipity’s Finest #1) by Carly Phillips

Summary:  This story takes place in a small town called Serendipity in New York.  Mike grew up in the small town, but as soon as he could he ran to Atlantic City, thinking he has his runaway father’s blood in his veins he isn't meant to stay anywhere permanently.  He returns to town because his adopted father, the Police Chief of Serendipity is diagnosed with cancer, and Michael steps up to fill his position temporarily.  Cara is a small town girl, who also grew up Serendipity and has no dreams of leaving.  She loves being a cop there and the friends and network of support she has created.  Months before Mike comes to town to help his father, he was back visiting and had a steamy one night stand with Cara.   They decide to start up their sexual relationship, and well then you can guess where this leads.

Reasons Why I loved this Book:  I love Carly Phillips! First of all this is a spin off series of another series called Serendipity that I have read as well.  Carly Phillips has a great way of making a book sexy, but not really erotica.  The sex scenes are fabulous and the details in her books really help you create this whole town and its characters so well you want to move to Serendipity!
This book in particular was good because like most romance novels there are side stories going on that throw the characters together, and this book does that very well.  Cara and her partner Sam (Mike’s younger brother) are given a cold case to solve by the Mayor, but Sam is put out of commission due to a car accident.  Mike hears what the case is about, and that it involves his biological father, so he becomes Cara new crime solving partner.
This book also has some pretty dramatic roller coaster moments, where it gets your heart beating.  You know everything will work out, but it doesn’t stop you from being on the edge of your seat.  Like I said before, the sex scenes are great, and the way Carly writes them with just enough detail to walk the line on romance and erotica is marvelous.  She creates the environment so well around the characters in your head, that it has you completely understanding and feeling like the characters that just can’t get enough of each other.
Carly Phillips also always goes back and forth between characters points of view, so you it’s not all just one person’s thoughts and feelings. It helps to mix the story telling up a little bit.  Making you emotionally divested in not just one character but both at the same time.

The Cons of this book:  As much as I love a good Carly Phillips book, and I really do.  The one problem I have with her is that they all kind of have the same story line.  A hot man, who doesn’t want to settle down, gets around with women but then finds “the one.”  That’s great and all, and I’m not complaining it’s not realistic, because hello it’s a book it’s supposed to be a little non-realistic.  The problem is that I can’t really read her books in a row because they all seem to have the same story arc.  Now I haven’t read all of Carly Phillips’ books but from the ones I have read this is true.

It’s a typical romance novel, and if that’s what you are in the mood for then go for it!  Carly Phillips is great with detail and really creating scenes in your head as they are being played out in the book, she is an awesome writer.  She is not able to give you the heart stopping moments, but moments that make you laugh out loud a little as well.

Next Book I'm reading:  Wethering the Storm by Samantha Towle
