Laura’s Review of Idol (VIP, #1) By Kristen Callihan

Synopsis
Libby

I found Killian drunk and sprawled out on my lawn like some lost prince. With the face of a god and the arrogance to match, the pest won’t leave. Sexy, charming, and just a little bit dirty, he’s slowly wearing me down, making me crave more.

He could be mine if I dare to claim him. Problem is, the world thinks he’s theirs. How do you keep an idol when everyone is intent on taking him away?

Killian

As lead singer for the biggest rock band in the world, I lived a life of dreams. It all fell apart with one fateful decision. Now everything is in shambles.

Until Liberty. She’s grouchy, a recluse—and kind of cute. Scratch that. When I get my hands on her, she is scorching hot and more addictive than all the fans who’ve screamed my name.

The world is clamoring for me to get back on stage, but I’m not willing to leave her. I’ve got to find a way to coax the hermit from her shell and keep her with me. Because, with Libby, everything has changed. Everything.
What I Loved
I really enjoyed the beginning of the book because Libby kicked butt when she found this drunk asshole sprawled out on her ruined lawn.  I loved how harsh she was with him because Killian certainly needed a good ass kicking and Libby gave it to him freely.

Although their meeting was a little rocky to say the least, I loved the instant chemistry between them as well.  It was clear that even though Libby had no idea who Killian was, there was still this pull towards him that she couldn’t fight.  Plus, the attraction lead to some very steamy sex scenes which I thoroughly enjoyed reading!

These were two characters that truly needed each other and found their soulmates at the perfect time in their lives.  Killian needed to take a break from his life and Libby needed a reason to start living hers again and I enjoyed watching that character development with the both of them.  I loved watching their love grow for one another and their commitment to one another build.
Not So Much
I usually don’t knock plots because I have massive respect for authors who write how they feel the story should go.  I didn’t write this review for a while because I had to sit back and think about what I was going to put in this because my hang up was more with the plot this time around rather than the writing.

The thing that got on my nerves the most was that I felt like Libby was the one that made these big decisions for Killian but the same couldn’t be said for Killian.  I get that those decisions were all hers and she was strong enough to make them and I respect that.  But as a woman I have a problem when I feel like the sacrifices are more one sided rather than compromises made from both sides.  I don’t want to give anything away and maybe I am little bit by saying all this but for me Libby’s decisions felt very one sided based solely on one thing.
To Sum It All Up!

Overall this was a fun, easy and sexy read. I really enjoyed the characters of Killian and Libby it was awesome to watch their love grow as the story moved along.  I did feel at times that the story got a bit too cheesy but that’s just me.  It was awesome that the point of views changed between Killian and Libby so you get both sides of the story at all times.

The chemistry between Libby and Killian was sizzling and I loved how they couldn’t keep their hands off each other.  Also, I love rock star romances and it was great to experience the many different sides that make up Killian.  It added more depth to the plot and sucked me into the story even more.

Also, the author did a wonderful job when it came to background details. I could clearly picture Libby’s house on Collar Island and what living there would be like day to day for her.  I think the author did a great job as well of setting up not just the plot in this book but the overall series, with introducing the many different characters and how all of their stories will come together.  I really did enjoy reading this book and I can’t wait to read the next installment in this series!
