Laura's Review of Saving Poughkeepsie (Poughkeepsie Brotherhood, #3) by Debra Anastasia

Synopsis

Beckett
Beckett Taylor’s quest to be a better man has brought Eve Hartt back into his life, but sometimes it feels like they’re bound together with barbed wire. Though he longs to love her without causing pain, the wreckage of their past continues to crash down around them.

Yet with the help of this brothers—and for his brothers—Beckett won’t stop trying. He’s determined to make them all a family, to make a life they want to live, and to make Poughkeepsie a place that’s safe to live it.

Eve
He can feel their futures balanced precariously on his shoulders: Blake and Livia and their children, Cole and Kyle and the new baby they’ve just brought home, and Eve…always Eve. He wants their dreams to be real. But murderers don’t just get Happily Ever After handed to them. They have to wrench it away from Satan himself.

Good thing Beckett is prepared to do just that. After all, saving Poughkeepsie is the only way his story ends.

Prepare your heart and your head for a wild ride in this final installment of the Poughkeepsie Brotherhood series. Debra Anastasia does not disappoint as she weaves the last chapter of a story that blends true love, turbulent emotions, and life’s harsh realities into an uplifting tale that calls to the good in each of us.

What I Loved

Blake
There is so much I loved about this story I don’t even know where to begin.  There has never been a story that has made me cry so many times, some sad tears some happy tears and some I was moved so much by the story I just had to cry.

Livia
All the wonderful family moments were made all the more special because it was these three brothers experiencing them.  After reading about how much they have all suffered growing up in foster homes and being abused it has made all the present moments with their loved one all the more special.  Debra Anastasia has a way of not just the characters truly appreciating their accomplishments but the readers as well.  Each time Cole was with Kyle, or Blake was playing with his children my heart would melt and I knew just how much these small moments were a miracle to each one of the brothers.  I don’t think Beckett has ever moved me the way he moved me in this book, and I loved him the very beginning, but now there are no words for awesome Beckett truly is.

Kyle
I don’t want to give too much away, so I won’t go into great detail about what I loved most about this story, just know that from the very first chapter in this book I had tears in my eyes and then as I read the last sentence to this series I was bawling like a baby.  You get tons of Blake, Cole, Beckett, Even, Kyle, and Livia in this story which is awesome.  Much like the books in this series the points of view are constantly changing which just adds to the overall plot of the series even more because you don’t just fall in love with one or two characters you fall in love with almost all of them.

I have always loved the dichotomy of Beckett, because when you first meet him you fear him a little.  He’s very rough around the edges, he’s violent, he’s brutal, and is just downright scary at times.  He commands people to take him seriously, and when he walks into a room the air instantly changes and becomes edgier.  Yet at the same time, he is often the comic relief in some scenes always having quick insults or jabs at his brothers and friends that just make you crack up.  His star truly shines in this story and everything that Beckett is bursts through the pages and brings home just how amazing this character truly is.

Not So Much

Cole

Since this is a five star review for me this section of the review will be very short.  I truly love this series, especially this book.  I think my only complaint would be (since I love smut so much) that I wish the sex scenes in the book weren’t as brushed over as they were.  I get this isn’t erotica and I’m not asking for great detail here, just maybe a little bit more detail than there was.  But that’s just me cuz I love me some naked bodies!

To Sum It All Up!

Wow, there is so much to say about this book. I truly don’t know if I can express how much I loved Saving Poughkeepsie because it was such an amazing story.  I was so moved by almost every character in this book that I will truly miss them for a very long time.  It all began with Livia and Blake and a cardboard piano and it’s just blossomed into so much more than just love.  The true definition of brotherhood was never been bettered expressed then in Saving Poughkeepsie.  It was so heartwarming to see Cole and Blake stand by Beckett no matter what, and see Beckett embrace their love and admiration for him.  There is a ton of stuff going on, especially towards the end where I literally was angry I had to go to sleep and work the next day because all I wanted to do was sit at home and read.  This story kept me on the edge of my seat for a good seventy percent of the story which I loved!  There were definite surprises throughout which absolutely floored me at times and had my heart breaking at others.  It was so great to see Blake settle into fatherhood, and Cole and Kyle finally get their prayers answered in Maryland.  I was so happy for each and every one of them, especially Eve and Beckett.  You finally get to see what they’re like as a couple with no drama around them (although it’s for a very short time) which was awesome.  I just wanted every one of them to be happy and when something wonderful happened to them I was so moved and happy for them.  I love books that I can get emotionally attached to, and this series snatched up my heart and still hasn’t let go.
