Laura’s Review of Married by Mistake by Abby Gaines

If you loved All I Ever Wanted by Kristan Higgins, The Fixer Upper by Mary Kay Andrews, and Heat Wave by Nancy Thayer, then you will love this book!!!!!

Basic Summary:  Poor Casey Greene gets jilted at the alter by her high school, and as if that’s not bad enough it’s live on national TV.  Adam Carmichael sexy businessman and current CEO of channel 8 sees all this happen in real time and comes to the rescue by jumping in front of the camera and ask Casey to marry him instead.  All the while they both think this is a fake marriage to save face, it turns out it was legitimate and that Tennessee has no annulment laws and it could take up to a month to get their impromptu marriage annulled.  They both find mutual benefits to stay married for a little while; like Casey no longer being a push over to her family and Adam legitimizing his father’s marriage stipulation in his will.  But what are they going to do about all the sexual tension simmering between them every time they touch and kiss?

What I Love About This Book:  The flow of the book is great, by the time I was 60% through the book I couldn't believe I was that far into it.  Casey is a likable character, and a total pushover and it totally pissed me off how her sister treated her at a certain point which is a good sign for me.  I only get frustrated like that when I really like the characters and am into the story.  Adam Carmichael kind of pisses me off because he is the typical bachelor who doesn't like ANYTHING to change in his life.  He is a very organized man, and he struggles to fit human relationships into certain boxes and not deviate from that.  You can tell it’s almost impossible for him to comprehend someone like Casey, with her very disorganized and whimsical lifestyle.  Casey is an author who is taking psychology classes, all the while taking care of father and not being able to say no to anyone including her neighbors, her ex-boyfriend, and anyone else in town.  Adam is there to help her overcome her handicap and show tough love so for once Casey can finally get what she wants out of life.  He kind of pissed me off at first because he’s so cold and unforgiving to her and kind of has a short tempter.  But as the story goes on you feel for him and the horrible situation he’s being put in because of his gold-digging aunt and her whimpy son Henry, who is trying to steal his father’s company away from him.  I like books that can make you see different sides of a human being, because not everything is black and white, and there is tons of gray when it comes to Adam’s personality.  The ending of the book was sweet and very cute, especially the epilogue!

Cons:  If you want a deep emotionally depressing but uplifting book then this isn't for you at all.  It’s a little too corny at times, and very lovey dovey.  The book has a great flow, but at the end I feel like it kind of speeds up and I don’t like when books don’t keep the same pace throughout.

Overall:  This is a very cute standalone book.  It was just a nice simple romance with no descriptive sex scenes like an erotica.  Casey is a cute loveable character, and Adam gets on your nerves at first but works his way into your heart.  If you’re looking for a quick easy read that doesn't have tons of depth and a happily ever after than this book is for you!
