Laura’s Review of Hero by Samantha Young

Synopsis
The emotional and unforgettable new romance from the New York Times bestselling author of the On Dublin Street series.

Alexa Holland’s father was her hero—until her shocking discovery that she and her mother weren't his only family. Ever since, Alexa has worked to turn her life in a different direction and forge her own identity outside of his terrible secrets. But when she meets a man who’s as damaged by her father’s mistakes as she is, Alexa must help him.

Caine Carraway wants nothing to do with Alexa’s efforts at redemption, but it’s not so easy to push her away. Determined to make her hate him, he brings her to the edge of her patience and waits for her to walk away. But his actions only draw them together and, despite the odds, they begin an intense and explosive affair.

Only Caine knows he can never be the white knight that Alexa has always longed for. And when they're on the precipice of danger, he finds he’ll do anything to protect either one of them from being hurt again…

What I Loved

Oh my god this story just made me fall in love, then broke my heart, then made me fall in love, then broke my heart then made me fall in everlasting love!!  I have always been a huge fan of Samantha Young, but this story made me worship the ground she walks on.  Right away you fall in love with Alexa Holland and even though your heart goes out to Caine Carraway, you kind of hate him for a little bit.  I love that Caine’s life story is laid out in the very beginning because in most romances the love interest reveals their story as the plot moves along, so this was a refreshing twist.  Not to say that Caine Carraway didn’t have anything to hide because TRUST me, he does!

I love that Alexa fights to get to Caine, to make him see the woman that Alexa is, not the legacy she carries around on her back.  She is a fierce woman and there wasn’t a moment that I didn’t love her. Of course, what I especially love is her smart mouth because she kept it interesting and funny, and I couldn’t wait to see what she would say next.

There is so much that happens in this book, and one of the best things that happens is the massive amount of hot sex that Caine and Alexa have.  I love hot angry sex scenes and there was a ton of those, but also sweet love scenes.   I could almost feel the tension between the two of them when all they wanted to do was just rip each other’s clothes off.  I love that there were times that they couldn’t even make it to the bed and just went at it on the floor.  The passion between Alex and Caine was sizzling and instead of taking away from the plot it just added to their love story exponentially.

Not So Much
This section is going to be very little, because truly loved this book so much.  I guess the only thing that kind of bothered me and not really that much is that there was a lot going on in this story.  Maybe take some of the crazy elements away to make the plot more streamlined and concise.  But I still loved Hero so so much!

To Sum It All Up!
This was a book that gave me a serious hangover, when I wasn’t reading it was I thinking about it and when I was reading I couldn’t get enough.  I loved all the drama and even though there might have been tears in my eyes at certain points it only made me love this story more.  I’m a sucker for roller coaster love stories, and Hero fit the bill.  There are a lot of twists and turns and I will towards the end things change dramatically and the plot takes a sharp turn that just had my heart pounding and my jaw on the floor.  I love the character development for not just the main characters but the supporting ones as well, it just helped me become more engrossed in the plot and made me happy not just Caine and Alexa but for everyone involved in this story.  Alexa fought for what she believed in, even when she didn’t want to fight anymore she still had hope and it she was written in such a way that you so badly want to this poor girl to be happy and you just know that the Caine is the man to do that.  Like I said before I have been a big fan of Samantha Young before this story has made me a fanatic!
