Excerpt:

We waste no time stripping each other down once we make it back home.

“You know what I love most?” Lincoln asks as his tongue dances across my bare stomach.

“Hmm,” is all I can manage as I lift my back, pressing myself closer to his mouth of goodness.

“The way you taste.” He licks circles around my navel, teasing my body in a way only he knows best. “The way you taste, baby, it puts every rainbow to shame.”

“Taste the rainbow,” I moan as his mouth continues its path down my waist.

“I plan on licking my way to your pot of the gold.” His hot breath against my inner thigh shoots a jolt of electricity through my body.

I giggle and moan all at once. “All yours, baby,” I gasp as I turn to putty beneath him.
“Say it again,” he demands as he nips and licks, teasing my skin.

“I’m yours. Only yours. Always yours,” I manage to pant before he swipes his tongue right where I want him most. My hands are firm against his head pulling at his short locks, holding him in place as he licks and fingers me until I come undone around his mouth.

He kisses his way back up my body and slides between my legs. I feel him at my entrance, but he stays put until he’s face to face with me. Grabbing me by my chin, he tilts my face up to look him square in the eyes.

“And I am yours. Only yours. I will always be yours,” he breathes against my lips before claiming them. His lips against mine are firm, needy, and full of passion as he pushes himself inside me.
I moan into his mouth as our tongues battle for control. He’ll win. He always does, but in cases such as this, I gladly accept defeat.

Kari's Review of Broken Wings by Erika Ashby!!!

My Summary:

Lynsie is a girl who has grown up around the Army.  She has an Army pilot husband and father. Her husband’s best friend, Dax Adams, is his co-pilot. Dax, has not yet settled down.  Lynsie, a romantic at heart, makes it her mission to find that special woman for Dax to settle down with and starts setting him up on dates. Dax has lost the one woman he truly loves and knows he can’t always get what he wants, so he plays along with Lynsie’s match-making.

Lincoln and Lynsie’s marriage is filled with love.  Lincoln adores her and we are shown this throughout their story.  Lynsie is the love of Lincoln’s life and Lincoln is the love of Lynsie’s life.

Lynsie really wants to start their family, but at first, Lincoln is hesitant.  Then, Lincoln experiences a tragedy and re-evaluates life and decides its too short and waiting to have a family is not what he wants anymore.

We can see that from the very beginning of the book that Dax is in love with his best friends girl.  Forbidden and wrong, Dax keeps his feelings in check and never crosses that line past friends.

Tragedy strikes Lynsie, Lincoln, and Dax and no one is ever the same. Dax needs to keep a promise and he will do everything in his power to do so.  He is caught in a tough position, but he checks his feelings once again and stands up and is the man that he needs to be.

Overall:
Ugh.  Ok let me say that this is so vague and probably super confusing.  That is because this is not a typical love triangle, or love story for that matter.  It is really hard to review this book without giving EVERYTHING away.  I actually probably said too much as it is.  Anyway, I digress.  Erika has outdone herself on this book.  It is absolutely her best book thus far.  So much more depth and growth in Broken Wings!!  I fell in love with her writing for a very simple reason..IT COULD ACTUALLY HAPPEN.  With that said, Erika has taken her experience being an army brat, and the real experiences of her army pilot father and incorporated all that into this story.  The emotional level of this book is off the charts.  The times I cried in front of people, was a little embarrassing.  Erika, seriously, I said you are an author to watch, and I am standing behind that.  I have read everything you have put out and this is it!!  Your star is climbing. I can’t wait to see more from you and where you are going!!!

Favorite quotes/lines:

“Love you to the sky and back, Lynsie Pearl.” ~ Lincoln

“I love you more than I’ve ever loved anyone or anything in my entire life. You own me Lynsie. I never even had a choice.” ~ Dax

“Words can’t fix things that are broken.  Only time will, and even thats debatable.” ~ Lynsie

Basic Summary
Lynsie Fox has what she considers to be a perfect life.  Married to Lincoln, a military pilot, she’s living the Army life she’s always loved.  Being a sucker for great love stories, Lynsie makes it permission to find Lincoln’s best friend and co-pilot, Dax Adams, a good woman.

Losing the one woman’s he’s ever loved.  Dax attempts to be a good sport by playing along in Lynsie’s match-making scheme.  However, Dax is certain he will never get the woman of his dreams.

But life doesn’t always fly smoothly.  When turbulence strikes, Lynsie watches her world crash and burn around her, leaving her empty with broken wings.  Despite her grief, can she mend the pieces back together and learn to fly again?

First Impressions
The book is pretty good so far.  I’m probably about 20% through and I definitely like the character Lynsie a lot.  She’s a little too conservative for my tastes but she is totally someone I can relate to and be emotionally invested with on many levels.

I do feel like the beginning is a little slow and not as attention grabbing as I’m used to but that’s just my likes and dislikes.  The writing so far is great and I really appreciate the establishment of not only Dax and Lynsie’s friendship but also her marriage to Lincoln.  Most of the time when there are stories like this you don’t really get to see what the past was like or experience how happy Lynsie and Lincoln are during their marriage.  But this book establishes their marriage very well by not only showing their day to day life but the strong love they have for one another.  I think it makes the reader way more emotionally attached to a storyline before everything changes so when it does all come crashing down you are just as devastated as the main character.

What I Loved

First of all this book had me crying like a baby at a certain point, tears falling out of my eyes and I stayed that for a good long while.  Ugh I knew it was coming but it didn’t soften the blow any even though I thought it would, but that’s okay.  I love books that rip my heart to shreds then slowly but surely I can put those pieces back together as the story goes on.  Broken Wings does NOT disappoint in this category at all.

I also really loved that the POV cut to Dax at a certain point; usually I’m not surprised when this happens but I totally was when it did and I loved it.  I kind of had a crush on Dax from the very beginning but reading things from his point of view just made me fall madly in love with his sexy ass.  He makes me want go to the closest army base and find me one of those hot men in uniform!

Not So Much
The lovey dovey stuff in the book with Lincoln and Lynsie was just a little too much for me.  I get they are young and married but the I love you so much every five minutes was just a little too sweet for me.  I get the purpose of all that though because when shit hits the fan in this book you really got to not only hear about Lynsie’s love for Lincoln you get to actually experience it.

I wish there were more details of things in this book, I have no idea what Lynsie and Lincoln’s house really looks like or what the layout is.  The same goes for her parent’s house or any kind of place all these characters were at.  Some stuff was described but nothing really as a whole.  I wish I knew what the wall colors were or what Lynsie’s living room looked like.  This book is very much about the characters and I get that, but for me I like to get the details of the settings as well so I can really picture what these people are working in and living in.

This Book Was
Great!!!!   I really loved being a part of not only Dax and Lynsie’s love story but to be a part of their grief and loss as well as their healing.  Like I said before Dax was pretty cool in the beginning of the book you just can’t help but fall madly in love with him by the end of it.  I really loved the changing of point of view between Dax and Lynsie throughout the story; to me it just gives the story more weight when you get both points of view not just one.  I think all the characters in this book are very relatable on some level, and I loved that this book wasn’t just about love, but about family and support as well.  There were definitely some tear jerker moments in this book and Erika Ashby was totally able to not just tell you what total devastation feels like, she made it possible for you to experience that loss right along with Lynsie.

As I wrote earlier I wish there were more details in this book, I still don’t know what age Dax or Lynsie is, or what their house really looks like.  I know for many people those details aren’t important but I like to know the settings the characters are in, so when they are upset or angry and the stomp over to their favorite spot on the couch I know what the couch looks like and feels like rather than having to imagine what it might look like or what color it is.  There were definitely some intriguing supporting storylines in this one; I would love to read about Dustin, Dax’s brother and see what his backstory is with Echo and how that all is going to play out.  Overall this book was awesome though and I loved being able to experience Lynsie and Dax’s story and not just show how love can be find in times of absolute lows, but what grief looks like and the closure that needs to come from loss in order to move on and spread your wings and fly.  The ending of this book was great very bitter sweet that left me with tears down my cheeks.  Such a great story and I’m so happy I was able to read it and be a part of Lynsie and Dax’s journey,
