Laura’s Review of Bad Boy (Indecent Proposal #3) By J.C. Reed & Jackie Steele

I know I should avoid him, run as fast as I can. However, when a harmless misunderstanding lands me in a foreign prison cell, my dear, lying husband is the only one who can get me out. Crap. I shouldn’t accept.

But how to say no to trouble when said trouble is the one who makes me fantasize all the dirty things he could do to me?

What I Loved

          The beginning of the book sucks you right back into Laurie’s story and we meet her again almost immediately after The Agreement ended.  Laurie flees New York to get away from Chase and all his lies and to try and sort out her life.  Almost immediately she is stuck in a situation where she needs help and of course Chase becomes her knight in shining armor once more. 

          I couldn’t wait for these two to be back together again.  I knew eventually Chase would find her and boy did he find her in the nick of time!  The sexual chemistry that sizzled between them before roars beck to life and it was very fun to see them eventually tear each other’s clothes off and go at it!

Not So Much

         Although I’m happy to finally have the answers that have plagued me from the beginning of this series this book fell short in so many ways.  The entire plot was very shallow and the depth the other two books offered was just not there at all in this one.  This entire story basically consisted of Laurie and Chase having the same conversation over and over again.  Everything felt very unorganized and each time Laurie would say or declare she would never sleep with Chase again she would end up naked 10 minutes later.  I get that there is supposed to be this inner struggle going on instead Laurie but the way it was written made her character development come off redundant and tiring. 

Also, I just wish there were more details shown rather than talked about. Chase and Laurie at a certain point separate and there is barely any communication so Chases plans are only talked about and completely glossed over.  I wanted to see the trial, hear what Laurie’s stepfather was going through, and what Chase was going through during this time.  Instead it was two sentences of description and then moved on to the next subject.  The flow just whizzed by the important parts leaving huge holes and slowed down too much when it wasn’t needed.  Due to the lack of details and depth I couldn’t get emotionally into this last book.  I was left more disappointed than satisfied. 

To Sum It All Up!

          I’m so happy that Chase and Laurie finally got the happy ending that they deserved.  The chemistry between them was apparent from the very beginning so it’s great to see that these two are finally living happily ever after.  Also I like that a lot of the questions that were brought up throughout the story are finally answered; I love when all the pieces of the puzzle finally to come together. 

          I just felt like the flow was very disjointed and the plot was shallow from beginning to end. In the beginning there are some pretty suspenseful moments but the minute Chase and Laurie are in each other’s orbits the same conversation they’ve been having since book one continues again and goes on and on and on.  The majority of this story takes place within a 48-hour period with basically the same fight over and over again.  Then the ending rushes you through to 15 months later and glosses over everything important.  Laurie’s stubbornness becomes tiring at points and Chase not answering her questions becomes annoying.  My suggestion would be to pay equal attention to beginning, middle and end of a plot so the same depth that is built carries through.

           Although this story did answer the majority of questions, the secrets Laurie whispered to Chase while they were in the elevator were NEVER even addressed, which was so silly to me.  Don’t put a plot out there then never address it again for three books.  The ending left me feeling empty rather than satisfied because the details just weren’t there and the character development made no sense.  I will say that this was an ARC so some of these issues could’ve been addressed in the final draft.

Laura’s Review of The Agreement (Indecent Proposal, #2) by J.C. Reed & Jackie Steele

What I Loved

                Once again the prologue sucks you in to the story and adds more mystery of some of the characters which I really loved.  Also I really loved that we start to see what Chase is all about and his motivations for proposing to Laurier.  We do get some questions answered but a lot more questions arise and I love not knowing what is going to happen next.  Chase’s charm and charisma is probably what has interested me most in this series, so to see how all of this playing out between him and Laurie makes this story more intriguing.

        We pick up immediately where The Interview left off, Chase has proposed that Laurie and he get married so she can her hands on the letters her mother wanted for her.  The story then follows Laurie through her thought process on marrying a man she barely knows and is scared of because of the attraction between them.  Chase’s magnetism pours off of him a lot in this book and he makes it very clear to Laurie that he wants her in his bed and soon!  To me that was the most intriguing part of the book because he is so blunt with her and to me that it’s a definite turn on which makes me want him even more. 

Not So Much

        First of all I felt like the plot in this book was too shallow to validate an entire story for this.  The whole back and forth leading up to Laurie and Chase’s wedding could’ve been included in the first book rather than dragging it out the way it was.  Laurie’s constant back and forth doesn’t make her a relatable character because it doesn’t come off as growth but rather inexperience and stubbornness.  I get that love is scary and that’s the message the authors are trying to convey but Laurie’s determination is annoying and alienates the reader rather than sucks them in.  One moment she starts to give in a little and accepts she’s attracted to this man and might give her virginity to him, the next she states she’s never going to touch him again.  It was too extreme and silly at certain points.   I don’t like books that I can’t get emotionally invested in the main character and Laurie’s attitude keeps me from relating to her in any way, shape or form.

To Sum It All Up!

        Compared to the first book the plot was a lot more organized and streamlined which I really liked.  But this book in a way served little purpose and didn’t really move the overall story along as it should’ve.  Laurie’s stepfather and girlfriend are supposed to be the big unknowns in this series and they weren’t mentioned once in this book.  I like the mystery that builds around Chase and we finally get to see another side of him, whether we like that side is yet to be determined.  Thankfully, Laurie mentions the prologue from the first book so I was glad that finally began to tie in to the story. There is a big cliffhanger at the end of this one, so if you’re not a fan of waiting for the next book, then hold off reading this one until the third one comes out.  I do hope as this story develops the plot can build more layers and we start to get answers.  Chase has definitely captured my attention and I can’t wait to find out what will be revealed of him in the next story and how all this will pan out for Laurier.
