Laura’s Review of Taking Turns (Turning, #1) By J.A. Huss

Synopsis
I’ve never been afraid of the dark...but that doesn’t mean I wanted to live in it. And maybe everyone wants what they can’t have, but I should’ve thought it over before I accepted the key and unlocked the door to their forbidden world.

Number One is mostly silent. He watches me with them very carefully. His gaze never wanders. His interest never wanes.

Number Two is mostly gentle. But it’s the other side of him I like best. The wild side.

Number Three is mostly reserved. He refuses to cross the line. Even when I beg.

It was carnal, it was sensual, and it was erotic. That’s it. That’s all it was supposed to be. A trip into the dark. A peek into the forbidden.

I just didn’t expect to like them.

What I Loved
I felt like the minute I started reading Taking Turns I was immediately put under some sort of spell because I was so caught up in this world of lust, secrets and games.  The book switches points of view each chapter so you get to know each person involved in the quad relationship intimately and I got to like each character for different reasons.  Quin is the first person you meet and for me as the book continued I cared for the most.  He was kind of this lost puppy with a broken heart but was fun to be around and hot and sexy all at the same time.  Bric was rough around the edges with lots of secrets that I can’t wait to crack, he was an intriguing character and I’m looking forward to his story.  While Smith had all this mystery around him and every time he was around Chella I wanted more of him! He seduced me just as he seduced Chella and I fell head over heels for this guy.

Also, I loved how each man offered Chella something different and brought their own personality to the story, it added a ton of depth to the plot and sucked me in even more.  The sexual tension that Chella had with every character captivated me and I couldn’t wait for them to just rip each other’s clothes off.  Each scene added to the erotic essence of the story and I couldn’t get enough of it of all the sexual tension and chemistry.  When I wasn’t reading, I was thinking about this book and when I was reading I couldn’t put my kindle down.

Not So Much
My big hang up was the lack of description throughout most of the book.  There is plenty of detail when it came to the Turning Point Club and how it’s laid out and what it looks like but the same attention wasn’t shown to the actual characters.  There really isn’t a complete solid description of what each man looks like as well as Chella. There are some details thrown in as the story continues but nothing is solidily is stated about any of them from head to toe.  Also, it really wasn’t pointed out even where this book was taking place until I was half way through the story.  Due to this, I felt like there were some plot holes in the story and it annoyed me a little.

To Sum It All Up!

Overall this was an amazing book and I absolutely loved it.  There were a lot of emotional parts that I didn’t see coming but offered more depth to the plot.  Each character had a lot of dimension to them and because of that they each added their own unique story to the plot.  I loved Chella’s personality and how she stood up for herself and was willing to take a chance and enter in a relationship with three men she barely knew.  I liked her relationship with each of them but especially Smith’s and watching them fight their feelings for one another made the story so enjoyable.

This book was so sexy and intense that as a reader it immediately sucks you in.  In the middle of this growing relationship with three men there was a mystery added into the plot as well that intrigued me even more.  The agreement that the three men had each woman they entered into a new relationship with drove me crazy at times because of the restrictions but that just showed me how emotionally invested I was in the story.  The book left me wanting more Chella and Smith in my life but also looking forward to Turning Back and seeing what comes next for Bric and Quin.
