Black Swan Affair
By K.L. Kreig
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: October 17, 2016
Synopsis
I’ve loved him as long as I can remember.
The gangly boy with big brown eyes and unruly hair who grew up into an intoxicating man. He wears scruff like he invented it and ambles with a swagger that makes panties drop.
Killian Shepard.
Shep.
We grew up together. We played Ghost in the Graveyard. Had our own rock band. It didn’t matter that he was five years older than me. It didn’t matter that he looked at me as a kid sister even as I grew into a woman. It didn’t even matter when he left me behind to go to college and start his adult life.
He’d be back.
He was always meant to be mine.
He came back, all right. But instead of smelling of promises, he stunk of betrayal. And he destroyed me—us—the day he married my sister instead of me.
So I did the only thing a girl like me in my position could do.
I got my revenge.
I married his brother, Kael.
Now we’re one big happy fucking family.

What I Loved
There are a lot
of books that have the ability to suck me in emotionally but very few books have
the power to make me want to sit at home and read when I’m out with my friends
or busy at work. But Black Swan Affair
did exactly that because I couldn’t stop thinking about this story! I was completely enthralled from the very
beginning when we first meet Maverick and she is about to walk down the aisle
to the very last word. Such a freaking
amazing story that I think everyone should read!
I loved the way the plot was laid out, how
it went from past to present and from Maverick’s to Kael’s point of views
because it gave me a better understanding of what each character is feeling and
where they are coming from. It built
better character development for both Kael and Maverick and as a reader I
became very much attached to their emotions and happiness.
From the very beginning my heart broke
for Maverick because of the situation she was in, she truly loved Killian down
to her very bones but he shattered her dreams.
Then as the story moves along you’re never quite sure how to feel about
their relationship or if he even deserves a second chance. I’m not going to give anything away but I
will see say that I walked away from this book not hating anyone. I think I fell a little bit in love each of
them by the end.
Not So Much
Since this is a 5-star review this will
be a very short section. I do wish that
there was more background detail added into the book. You get general descriptions of Maverick’s
house as an adult and a child but not a ton so I wish there was more. I felt like that theme was carried throughout
the book, that there was a lot of general descriptions of things but not a ton
of heavy background description which created some holes for me.
Also I did feel like the ending kind of
zipped up things very quickly when I wish it would’ve gone into more detail
about certain people a little bit more.
It all just sort of ended in a nice little box which was cute but some
things I felt like were swept under the rug when I wish there would’ve been
more. But that could just because I loved this book so much I didn’t want to
let go!
To Sum It All Up!
Overall this was
truly an amazing story that I literally couldn’t put down, and when I was
forced to it was all I could think about.
At first I wasn’t quite sure what to make of Maverick because she was so
distraught and heartbroken but I knew I wanted this girl to be happy. She was definitely someone easy to relate to
and that made it easy for me to become swept up in all of her emotions. There were several times I was choking on my
tears as they fogged up my eyes because I was so moved by all of the emotions
swirling around the characters.
The story switches between past and
present in different ways, which added a refreshing take to a romance
novel. This story was definitely laced
with some suspense and devastation which I absolutely loved, give me drama any
day of the week. There is so much going on
in this story at every turn, it kept me on my toes till the very end. Not only was there sadness and heart ache
there was also a ton of chemistry and hot sex as well to throw into the
mix. This isn’t a story for the faint of
heart but trust me the minute you begin reading you will be instantly addicted
and it will stay with you for a long time afterward.
Meet the Author
I’m just a regular ol’ Midwest girl who likes Game of Thrones and am obsessed with Modern Family and The Goldbergs. I run, I eat, I run, I eat. It’s a vicous cycle. I love carbs, but there’s love-hate relationship with my ass and thighs. Mostly hate. I like a good cocktail (oh hell…who am I kidding? I love any cocktail). I’m a huge creature of habit, but I’ll tell you I’m flexible. I read every single day and if I don’t get a chance…watch the hell out, I’m a raving bitch. My iPad and me: BFFs. I’m direct and I make no apologies for it. I swear too much. I love alternative music and in my next life I want to be a bad-ass female rocker. I hate, hate, hate spiders, telemarketers, liver, acne, winter and loose hairs that fall down my shirt (don’t ask, it’s a thing).
