Laura’s Review of Relent (Sydney Storm, #1) By Nina Levine

Synopsis
War is coming in this NEW biker series from USA Today Bestselling author Nina Levine.

A biker torn between loyalty to his club and love for his woman.

Kick Hanson's life follows a dangerous path that leads him to the Storm Motorcycle Club where he spends his days buried deep in a violent and lawless world that is slowly consuming his soul. He fights against bringing the one woman he's ever loved into this world. Until the day he knows he can't live without her.

Evie Bishop has always loved Kick but she's done. Even though they've loved each other through both happiness and heartbreak, she believes their chance to be together has long passed.

When Kick finally stakes his claim, will Evie relent and give their love another go, or has Kick left it too long to go after the woman who has owned his heart forever?

What I loved
I’m a big fan for second chance romances and motorcycle club genres so I was excited to begin reading this book.  The prologue introduces both Evie and Kick as kids with Kick being Evie’s knight in shining armor, showing how Kick will always be there to protect Evie no matter what.  Fast forward many years later where Evie and Kick are no longer together but when Kick lays on his eyes on her once again he knows he needs her back.

I really liked the character of Evie, she’s a woman who has experienced massive loss in her life but tries to find ways to carry on.  It’s easy to see how tragedy has not only changed her life but her family’s as well.  I loved how strong willed she was from the very beginning, and that she was the glue of her family holding them together because they couldn’t do it themselves.

Of course I loved the character of Kick as well, because he wouldn’t take no for answer.  It was enjoyable to watch him get on Evie’s nerves time and time again just so he can force his way back into her heart.  He definitely had an uphill battle on his hands and if he wanted to keep Evie in his life had to make some changes.  I don’t blame Evie one bit for the decisions she made but I was rooting for Kick from page one!

Not So Much

I wish there was more background detail in the book, I got somewhat of a layout when it came to Evie’s house, but not what it really looked like. Plus, I really don’t know where in Sydney this is all taking place, what life is like there or where everything is compared to one another.  Also, there isn’t a lot of detail about the Sydney Storm Club House or any of the other places the characters were at a lot.  It’s just so important to me to have all those little details so it paints a complete picture of what life is like for these people.

Also I did feel at times the love between Kick and Evie was being laid on a little too thick.  When the story was from Kick’s point of view it didn’t feel like something a man would be saying or thinking.  It felt like what a woman would want a man to sound like or act and it came off cheesy because of that.
To Sum It All Up!
I was excited to begin this series, after reading and being a big fan of the Original Storm Series and some of these characters being introduced previously I wanted to get to know this other charter.  It was obvious that Kick and Evie were soulmates from the very beginning, it was just a struggle to finally come to a place of accepting that for both of them.  The attraction between them was there from the start and every time they would run into each other I couldn’t wait for them to start ripping each other’s clothes off.

Kick is someone who certainly has a temper and a darker side to him but his love for Evie trumps all and it was great to see that.  He’s fiercely loyal to the important people in his life and he proves that over and over again.  I loved how accepting Evie was of Kick’s lifestyle, all she wanted was to find her place in his life and once that was established everything was good between them.

No Storm story would be complete without suspense and this story had plenty of that.  There were definitely times that my eyes were bugging out of my head and my heart was pounding.  I liked that there is an overall arc to this series as well, that although Evie and Kick’s story might be done the entire plot is not over yet and will continue into the next book.  It keeps the reader on their toes and as for me I can’t wait to get my hands on Nitro’s Torment.
