Laura’s Review of Denial (Careless Whispers, #1) By Lisa Renee Jones

Synopsis
Book one in the CARELESS WHISPERS series. This is a standalone spin-off of the INSIDE OUT series (soon to be a TV show) that follows Ella Ferguson, Sara McMillan's best friend.

Ella Ferguson awakes alone in Italy, unsure of who she is, and a gorgeous man has claimed her as his own. He’s tall, dark, and sexy, with money and power, the kind of man who makes a girl want to be possessed. And he does possess her, whispering wicked wonderful promises to her, stealing her trust and her heart. Soon though, the past finds her, yanking her from a cocoon of passion and safety. Everything is not how it seems. The truth will shatter her world, but it can set her free, if it doesn't destroy her first.
What I Loved
I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Ella’s story, after finishing the Inside Out series I needed to find out what the hell happened to Ella and I was finally going to get my answers! Then I started and realized, not so fast! Definitely not going to be getting all those answers I’ve been looking for since Ella wakes up with no memory at all, not even able to remember her name at first.  Immediately you are thrown into this world of uncertainty and danger, and there is this beautiful stranger that is willing to help Ella but can he really be trusted?

Instead of getting some answers, more questions arise and I thoroughly enjoyed that element! I’m a huge fun of stories I can’t predict the ending to and I literally have no idea where this series will lead me. I loved every minute of this story and even though you might have met Ella in the beginning of the Inside Out series you see Ella in a whole new light in this one and I absolutely loved her.  Even with her memory gone and getting some glimpses of her past little by little there is so much depth and development to her.  As she is learning more and more about herself the reader is as well giving you a more emotional connection her plight as well as the overall plot.

Kayden is another character that has a ton of layers to him and even though you learn a lot about him as the plot progresses you just know this is just the tip of the iceberg and there is so much more to him.  He is certainly a man of mystery and power and that just makes me want him even more.  Even though Ella and Kayden meet in a hospital and she has no memory the chemistry between them comes to life instantly and it hooked me right away.
Not So Much
I really have no huge complaints, this was such an amazing read and I truly love Lisa Renee Jones.  However, I did feel at times the story became a little repetitive with Ella’s trust issues with Kayden and it became tiring.  One minute she trusts him, the next she thinks he’s after her and this happens a lot throughout the book.  It would’ve been fine if it just happened once, or maybe twice but it happens just a tad too much for my liking.  The plot became thin during those times rather than kept its depth and appeal.
To Sum It All Up!
Overall this was another amazing reading experience from Lisa Renee Jones.  There is a lot to take in at first and I would tell people to pay attention to all the action going on around them because there is a ton of it! Kayden and Ella have so much chemistry together and Kayden’s dominance and mystery kept my attention and definitely attracted me towards him.

There is a ton of background detail as well which I loved because it really added to the depth of the plot and my overall experience.  I loved the secondary characters as well because they also add to the story and paint a better picture of the world Kayden and Ella are living in.  Of course no first book in a series would be complete without a crazy cliff hanger and this book certainly has it! I am once again sucked into this crazy world that Lisa Renee Jones has created and I loved every single minute of it!
