Laura’s Review of When I’m With You (Hope Town, #3) By Harper Sloan

Synopsis
Nate:

It’s nearly impossible to be surrounded by love but not understand it. My parents, my sister, and just about everyone around us has no trouble accepting that love. To give your trust to someone else and believe they would die before hurting you. I’ve witnessed it—I’ve seen the power of it—but I’ve also seen the pain. Because for me, I’ve only loved someone I could never have, and my biggest fear is that by giving her my love, all I would do is ruin her. I should have tried harder, but I’m not sure I can because I only feel complete when I’m with her.

Emberlyn:

The only time I feel like I belong is when he’s near. His infectious smile warms me straight to my bones. Any insecurities I have vanish with just a wink from him. A sliver of his attention makes me feel invincible. But all it took was one drunken night of truths for me to lose everything I had begun to crave. Now, I’m not sure how to move on because I only feel complete when I’m with him.

He said I was too young. I said he was perfect. He said our families wouldn’t understand. I said we could weather any storm. He said he would ruin me. And he was right.
What I Loved
First of all, I’m pretty sure I fell madly in love with Nate from the previous two books; he was always kind of the goof ball but loving character that always put a smile on my face whenever he was on the scene.  So I was so excited to for him to get his own book and maybe discover a whole other side of Nate that has not been displayed before, and boy oh boy was I not disappointed in the least!

Not only was there was another side to Nate to discover there was a lot of other things that I found out about Nate that just made me love him more and more as the story went on.  Even if he was kind of an idiot in the beginning of this story.

From the very beginning of the book my heart went out to Emerblyn, her love for Nate burned so bright and to see that snuffed out was heart breaking.  I immediately latched on to this girl for many reasons but one of the most was her bravery in the beginning, she laid it all out on the line no matter the consequences.  Also, her parents were one of my favorite in the Corps Security series so it was great to see Maddox and Emersyn build this wonderful life and family together after all they’ve been through.  I loved Emerblyn’s spirit and her spunk, she gave just as much as she got throughout the entire story.  Nate is what caught my attention when I first started reading but it was Emberlyn that kept me addicted.
Not So Much
My only real huge complaint is that this book followed the same formula that most Harper Sloan books follow which made the overall plot very predictable.  There were just no huge surprises for me at all even during the suspenseful moments.  I could see all this stuff coming a mile away and everything happened just as I thought it would.  For once I would love to see one of these stories kind of break the mold and step away from the traditional, but that’s just my opinion. I’m a sucker for suspense, I just love it more when I don’t see it coming.

To Sum It All Up!

Overall I was super excited to jump into Nate’s story and see what this sexy man is all about!  There are so many layers to Nate I don’t even know where to begin with what I love mody.  He might’ve been the goofball in the other books, but he was the hardworking, business owner, alpha man in this one.  He stepped up in so many ways not only to be the man that Emberlyn needed in her life but stood up to his family as well when they didn’t believe in him.  I love that he kind of broke away from the group of security men in his family circle and went with his own passion no matter how much it cost him.

Also, I loved the passion between Nate and Emberlyn, even though it took them a little while for the both of them to get their acts together when they did it was pure fireworks!  The sex scenes were nothing less than scorching and it was wonderful to watch their relationship blossom.  I love that not only was Nate a successful business owner, Emberlyn was a successful artist and had her own goals and dreams separate from Nate.  Together they just clicked and the heat between them poured off the pages!  This story grabbed my heart till the very end and I loved every minute of it.
