Laura’s Review of Pandemonium (MC Sinners Next Generation, #1) by Bella Jewel

Synopsis
I am the good girl, the one who does no wrong.
Daughter to a ferocious and strong MC President, I know what protection feels like.
Until one night changes everything - and not a single person in the world can protect me from it, not even my dad.
Suffocating. Alone. Desperate.
I let my problems live deep inside until there is no longer anywhere to run.
I need an escape. Anything to make the pain go away.
Trouble comes for me, and I don't fight it.
I tried so hard to believe in what I was,
But nobody understood.
Not until him. Not until Lucas.
He sees me. He believes in me.
He refuses to let me drown.
He’s my way out. My escape.
But Lucas is forbidden. He’s a cop. I’m in danger. And my father is trying to protect what can’t be protected.
There can only be one outcome.
Pandemonium.
What I Loved
Wow, this book really put me through the ringer!  I love books where I can experience a lot of ups and downs with the characters and I definitely did while reading Pandemonium.  It was easy to feel the devastation that Ava felt after she was kidnapped. To see her entire being completely change and her life fall apart was heart breaking because of the choices she had to make in a horrible situation.  It really made it so easy to become emotionally involved in the plot and not be able to put this book down.

Also I really loved how the story was laid out; that we got to see Ava in the present but understand Lucas more from his past to present.  It made Lucas more endearing to me and not just hear what he went through but to actually experience his own tragedy along with him.  It was a unique and refreshing way to lay out a sequence of events, which I absolutely loved.

The chemistry between Lucas and Ava was instantaneous although they met under stressful circumstances their bond was evident.  I loved how Lucas was able to help Ava through her own hell when no one else could and stood up to her father time and time again.  It really showed how important Ava was to Lucas as the plot move forward. To stand up to entire MC no matter the consequences is pretty bad ass!
Not So Much
I’ve read a ton of Bella Jewel books and the writing has been pretty good but this book felt like there was a bit of a back slide.  The sentences were very choppy and fragmented and many details were left out to really build an entire picture for each scene.  It was so odd to me when so many of her other books are written really well and this one was missing a lot of structure.  I kept on finding inconsistencies and fragmented sentences as the story moved along it was frustrating.  For me it was hard to get completely sucked in emotionally to the plot because of how broken the writing was at times.  I know people can ignore this and still love the book and that’s wonderful but the writing was inconsistent with other books from the author that’s what threw me the most.
To Sum It All Up!
Overall this was a great story about two broken souls finding each other and trying to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives together.  Lucas in so many ways is Ava’s hero when he finds her one morning but at the same time Ava saves him right back and that’s probably what I loved most about this story.  Also I really loved the full circle connection between Lucas and the Hell’s Knights MC and then with Ava and Lucas.  It was great to see that all unfold as the chapters switched from past to present because it really sucked me in wanting to know what happened between Ava’s father and Lucas in the past.

The bond between Ava and Lucas was immediate and it was great to see that blossom into friendship and then love.  Especially when it comes to Lucas who has been through so much, to see him find someone he can be happy with again and build a new life with was so wonderful.  His backstory just completely shattered me and I had tears in my eyes experiencing all that he had been through.  It made me fall completely in love with him and of course he is one sexy as hell detective! The chemistry between him and Ava sizzled at times and I thoroughly loved the scenes between them.

I haven’t read the MC Sinner’s series and I didn’t feel like I was missing out on anything in this current story because of that.  It does make me want to get to know the characters from that series but not knowing them didn’t create huge plot holes.  I think this story laid out a great foundation for the entire series, it introduces you to a whole host of characters that will becomes front and center as the series moves along which is a definite plus for a series starter.  The writing was a little lacking for me but I did enjoy this story a lot and look forward to the rest of the series.
