Laura’s Review of Allure (Spiral of Bliss, #2) By Nina Lane

Synopsis
"We both want this so badly. I can feel it resonating between us like the hot pull of our first attraction, tangible and intense."

After lies and betrayal almost destroy their marriage, Dean and Olivia West reignite their blissful passion. The medieval history professor and his cherished wife are determined to fix their mistakes and fall madly in love all over again.

Then a family crisis forces Dean back into a feud with his parents and siblings, dredging up guilt over a painful family secret. Liv and Dean have battled obstacles together before, but with bitter family conflicts now endangering their fragile intimacy, they soon must struggle with events that could damage them in ways they had never imagined.
What I Loved
After the slight bomb that was dropped in the middle of Live and Dean’s relationship I couldn’t wait to see how they were going to handle this new development and try to mend their marriage at the same time.  The book begins shortly after Arouse ends, Liv has decided to move back in with Dean and they start to get back on to solid ground when Dean gets called away to return home because of a family emergency.  Tension between Liv and Dean’s family is pretty high and as the story unfolds you learn why because the plot shifts between past and present.

Things have certainly settled down between Dean and Olivia which was so great to see.  I’ve really grown to love both of them so to see them on solid ground was really rewarding.  There is definitely a shit storm swirling between them but for once they aren’t the causes of it which separated this book from this first one making this story just as exciting and compelling as the first book.  There were times when my heart broke for both Liv and Dean separately and together and then there were other times I was smiling for them.  It was wonderful to watch Olivia and Dean struggle to gain solid ground again because I just want them to be happy so much!
Not So Much
As much as I loved this story, I didn’t really feel like a whole of Olivia and Dean’s issues were really dealt with and resolved.  Dean even says at a certain point, he doesn’t understand what he did wrong in the first place, and I don’t know if he’s truly learned that yet.  I love his fierce protective nature for his wife but he’s still not getting it and it became frustrating to see this constant cycle between him and Olivia.  I felt like the plot was going in circles rather than forward because their issues took a backseat, and I get that that’s life.  In reality that’s what happens but this is a book written with only a couple hundred pages, so I wish there was just most plot movement.
To Sum It All Up!

Overall this was another fantastic novel in this series.  I love that we got be introduced to Dean’s family and his ex-wife.  I think it really enabled me to peel back the layers that is Dean and truly understand who he is what makes him tick.  He’s such a multifaceted character, so really tapping into his family and past made it possible to build a more solid foundation to this overall series, sucking me in even more.  I’m glad to see that their love hasn’t weakened for each other, if anything it has strengthened.  By the end of the story they are on much more solid ground even though there is drama swirling around them they still have each other and at the end of the day that is what counts the most.  I truly love Liv and Dean and can’t wait to see what’s in store for them next!
