Laura’s Review of Watch Me Fall (Ross Siblings, #5) by Cherrie Lynn

Synopsis
Starla Kimbrell might be on the worst date of her life, but she didn’t expect to find herself walking home alone on a dark dirt road after her latest mistake leaves her in a cloud of dust. Luckily, salvation comes in the form of Jared Stanton—single dad of two, sexy cowboy, blue eyes like whoa. If she isn’t careful, she might just let him become the latest in her string of amorous disasters.

Jared doesn’t consider himself on the market. His first love left his heart in pieces that even a marriage to someone else couldn’t salvage, and now that he’s divorced and focusing on his twin daughters, he isn’t looking to put another woman in the shadow of the one who crushed him. Still, the stranded tattoo artist intrigues him, while her unstable ex-boyfriend makes him worry for her safety. Is the guy just a mouthy jerk, or is Starla in real danger?

Starla quickly learns that not everyone in her life is thrilled with her new interest in Jared. Their cautious courtship is rocked when tragedy strikes and the world as she and her coworkers know it is shattered. Faced with a situation she can’t handle, she turns to the only man who has ever made her feel truly safe, even as she learns that Jared’s protective instincts might be destructive enough in their own way to rip them apart for good.

Warning: Graphic language, explicit sex.
What I Loved
I love the Ross Siblings series, love Cherrie Lynn’s writing and this story was no different for me.  What I loved most was Starla and Jared’s honesty with each other and both were willing to see where this new friendship would take them.  It’s never easy having feelings for someone who has no chance of having them back for you let alone that someone being your boss and best friend.  Starla seems to be someone that has a hard time letting things go because life has certainly beaten her down and I think that’s what made me love her so much.  That’s such a real of people, who have been rejected time and time again to build these walls and not forget why those walls were built in the first place.  So I totally understood why she was not only in love with Brian buy why she still held onto that flame so tightly.

The chemistry between Jared and Starla was apparent from the moment Jared found her on the side of the road.  I really liked that even though they both had feelings for other people they couldn’t have, they were upfront about that from the beginning.  I also loved how hot and sexy Jared was!! I guess I have thing for Cowboys, who knew!?! Also, I loved how supportive he was for Starla no matter what she needed he was always there for her, he was a true hero and what woman doesn’t love that?

Not So Much
After reading a lot of reviews I totally get where people are coming from.  It’s unusual to read love story about two characters who are in love with other people and that can be a little annoying.  Especially Starla because her love for Brian becomes repetitive and her actions become a little destructive after a while.   That aspect of her didn’t bother me that much, but I do wish that the tides would’ve turned for her half way through the book rather than when the story was almost over.  It was just a few steps too many of I still have feelings for someone else but let’s still hang out and have sex anway.

As much as I loved Starla and I could relate to her unrequited love her self destructive behavior alienated her at times rather than endear her.  It was hard to get emotionally involved in the story at certain parts because of her repetitive back and forth.  I want to be absolutely in love with the female lead in a story and I wasn’t when it came to Starla.

To Sum It Al Up!
I really liked the overall plot and felt like the foundation of the story was laid out really well.  I got the desperation that Starla felt every single time she looked at Brian or just the complete depression she was in when it came to her overall life. But it was hard to completely feel bad for her because she in so many ways created this herself.  I like that she finally started to at least try to change things but her self-destructive nature always somehow got in the way.

It never really bothered me that Jared and Starla had feelings for other people that they couldn’t have because I feel like a lot of people can relate to that.  I just wish the movement of those feelings, for Starla especially, at least happened closer to the middle of the story rather than the very end to show more character development like I saw in Jared.  I think that was what endeared Jared more as a reader then Starla because as the plot progressed he became more realistic, whereas Starla became more hopeless.

There was a ton of intense moments in the book and I loved every single minute of them along with all the sexy ones as well.  I’m not sure if this is the last one in this series but if it is I’m going to miss the Ross Siblings and their friend so much!
