Laura’s Review of Flawed Heart (House of Obsidian, #1) by Bella Jewel

Synopsis

**This is a full length, second chance romance**

Max & Belle's story

This isn't the man I married.
The man I married was strong, beautiful and pure.
The man I married cherished our lives together.
The man I married loved me.

This...This isn't that man.

One night. One accident. It changes everything.

I wish I could tell you the exact moment he fell out of love with me. I wish I could tell you there was hope. That I hung on. That I fought. I wish I could tell you that we fixed it. That happily ever after was just out of our grips.

It wasn't. I ran, in the dead of the night, I packed my things and I left him.

Now I'm back. He's still the same man. A deadly underground fighter for the House of Obsidian. He's still dangerous. He's still broken. I still love him.

What I Loved

I’m a sucker for sexy fighters and I love second chance love stories so this was definitely a fun book to read.  I loved how the story switched from past to present so we not only got to see what Max and Belle are like now but what but what they were like in the past.  It made their story more compelling and added depth the overall plot.

I loved that we got to see what Max and Belle were in like in the beginning of their relationship. Also it was cute to see how shy and innocent Belle was and just how much Max cherished that about her.  The attraction between Belle and Max was apparent from the very beginning and as their relationship grew the sexual tension between them did as well.  It lead to some pretty hot sex scenes which I had lots of fun reading.  I think some might’ve left me blushing actually!

Not So Much
My main complaint that I have with this book is what I have for a lot of Bella Jewel books.  I absolutely love her stories and that’s why I continue to read them but I still need more details! For example, I have no idea where this story took place, when I say that I mean; country, state, town….nothing.

I get that those kinds of details might not seem important because I still loved reading this story.  But when you leave things like that out it’s hard to wrap my head around what’s going on around these characters.  If I knew what region or town or place this story took place then I would could understand the culture better giving me the ability to understand the characters more.

Also I had an issue with the way the culture of college was portrayed. In America College isn’t a place where there are popular people versus not popular groups and all that.  We might have sports stars that get treated differently but the rest of the issues that face these characters is more high school than college.  College isn’t a place where a person would worry if dating a girl would ruin their reputation.  If this book was supposed to take place in America then the culture of university life should reflect that.

 To Sum It All Up!

My main complaint that I have with this book is what I have for a lot of Bella Jewel books.  I absolutely love her stories and that’s why I continue to read them but I still need more details! I liked the switch past and present throughout the story so we got a full perspective of their relationship.  I just wish there was a little bit more gravity and depth to it, because it would’ve made this book mind blowing.  The next story in this series deals with Rainer and he was definitely someone that intrigued me so I’m excited to see what comes next.
