Kari's 5-Star Review of Inhibitions by Kimberly Bracco

Summary:

In the last six months, Ashley’s life has been one disappointment after another. She walked in on her boyfriend with another woman, leaving her needing a new place to live and a mountain of debt. As if that wasn’t enough, her ex convinces her that his infidelity is her fault for being unadventurous in bed. Deep down Ashley has always had the desire to be wild but has been held back by her own insecurities. She’s desperate to break free, but she's fearful of how people will judge her if they know her inner desires. She wants nothing more than to lose herself in sex that pushes her to the limit, but she hasn’t found anyone she trusts enough to take her there until she meets Tanner.
Tanner doesn’t trust anyone outside of his inner circle easily. The infamous, media proclaimed playboy, quarterback is tired of people using him for money, connections and to get their fifteen minutes of fame. Determined to protect his image and himself, he makes sure to keep most people at arm’s length until Ashley is thrown into his life. He’s inexplicably drawn to her, and she needs his help in more ways than one. But to help her, he’ll need to let her in. There’s an immediate attraction and connection that neither can deny, but can both of them get past their inhibitions and find what they are looking for in each other or will everything backfire in their faces?

What I loved:

First and foremost I loved that this book took place in my home state on NJ. I liked being able to say “Hey I know where that is!” and picturing it in my head. Ok now onto the meat n’ potatoes.

Ashley was a woman with a crappy relationship track record, a past that haunts her, and her most recent ex, was not able to meet her needs. She has known what she wants, but is not able to voice her needs. Ashley is assigned to cover an interview for the Jets starting quarterback, Tanner Garrison. Ashley goes into the interview believing the gossip magazines and assumes Tanner is the playboy they make him out to be. This causes the interview to nose dive fairly quickly.

Tanner does his best to dispel all the rumors and gossip. He saves Ashley’s job by allowing the interview to go to print despite her antics during and after it. Tanner and Ashley run into each other while Ashley is covering a new spot for her normal column on the paper. Thus begins the relationship between Tanner and Ashley.

Tanner slowly but surely gives Ashley what she needs to feel safe enough to finally ask for what she likes in bed, and falls in love with him in the process.

The obstacles that they face, are relatable and ultimately soul crushing. I need more and to know what happens!!! I also want more on the secondary characters Quinn and Alex!!!

What I didn’t love:

I have to say that the fact that Tanner was so hellbent to disprove all the rag mags and set his reputation straight with Ashley, and he couldn’t see Melissa for what she really was, may be the only thing I didn’t love. I get the story needed to have him trust her, but she is foul. LOL.

Overall:
This is Kimberly Bracco’s debut novel and it was a TOUCHDOWN! (<—-see what I did there?)  Ashley and Tanner had the right amount of chemistry, baggage, and angst to leave you craving more. Kimberly’s ability as a debut author to weave in the secondary characters to set them up for possible spin offs is that of a seasoned writer. Extremely well done and you have a fan for life!
