Review

What I Loved
I must say, this story kind of snuck up on me.  Throughout most of the book I wasn’t quite sure how I felt about the main character Bryna. Her attitude isn’t the best and she kind of annoys me.  I saw her as a bully at times, and sometimes was she came off completely delusional.  But by the end I was addicted to Bryna and instantly needed more.  This took me completely by surprise, and I absolutely loved that.  I’ve never had a story take me off guard as much as this one did.

Bryna has grown up in the world of privilege, she’s lived a life that millions can only dream of, and her attitude definitely reflects that of a spoiled teenage girl.  She is the byproduct of non-involved parents, with too much time and money on her hands and a false sense of power.  Although she annoyed me at times and her immaturity shines through, I was enthralled with her story and invested in her happiness.

The story starts out with Bryna grasping at something real when everything else in her life is shallow and fake.  She meets a mysterious stranger which leads to some pretty hot sex and a very secret affair.  Even though Bryna got on my nerves at times and had me just shaking my head, there was a part of me that sympathized with her story and made her relatable.  I love that the book left me grasping for the next story in this series counting down the days till Gold comes out.
Not So Much
I really enjoyed Diamonds, but I do wish there was a little bit more depth in the character development and foundation in the plot.  I did read an ARC so maybe in the final story there will be, but for me I found it a little lacking.  I would’ve liked to have known more about Bryna and what got her to this point.  She talks about her mom a lot but we don’t ever meet her and or get a glimpse what her life was like when she was younger.  I just wish there was more establishment of Bryna giving her more layers as well as giving the plot a better more whole foundation.

Like I said I read an ARC so there might be more details added in to the final copy but I do wish there was more details.  There was no real description of Bryna’s house or what her own bedroom looked like.  Certain descriptions of people would describe their beautiful eyes but not tell you their hair color. Also, one scene Bryna was going out, her date & her were all dressed up but it never said what event was going on or as to why her date needed to wear a Tux.  This is an ARC and all those little things might be filled in later so I don’t really like want to hold this against the story but it did take me out of the story emotionally as I was reading.

To Sum It All Up!

What a crazy ride Diamonds is, and what a way to begin yet another amazing series by K.A. Linde.  I am a huge fan of her and this story showed me once again why I am so addicted to her writing.  Like I said before this plot really snuck up on me, I never would’ve predicted to be so caught up in this story by the end but I totally was.  Bryna is a hard character to like but to me you’re not supposed to fall in love with this girl instantly, she’s rough around the edges and acts completely crazy at times but in the end I found myself rooting for her.  My jaw was on the ground at the very end of this story, my heart a little broken and NEEDING more.  I cannot wait to get my hands on Gold and see what Bryna is up to next!

Character Interview with Bryna
1.    What is your favorite cocktail? (Yes I know you’re underage but I’m being realistic) Dirty Martini 100%. I also really like the Peppermint Posse martinis at Posse in Vegas!

2.   Who is your favorite fashion designer? You want me to choose one? I suppose Chanel though it varies depending on the collection.

3.   What makes you laugh out loud? Bad comedy and horror movies.

4.   Both of your parents are very much involved in Hollywood, especially your dad being a famous director.  Why did you never get into acting or modeling yourself? I never had any interest at all. I’ve seen the insipid actors who filter in an out of Hollywood. No thanks. I’d rather just be me and live the life I wanted to. I’m actually more interested in working behind the camera like my dad than anything in front of the camera.

5.   If you had a free day with no responsibilities and your only mission was to enjoy yourself, what would you do? Rodeo Drive, baby! Then maybe a day spa—massage, facial, mani pedi. Also, I love the pool and beach so I’d probably lay out and drink the rest of the afternoon.

6.   Where do you see yourself in five years? Finished with college and trying to figure out what the hell I actually want to do with myself. Maybe dating a billionaire and taking weekend jaunts to Europe.

7.   If you could spend the day with someone you admire (living or dead or imaginary), who would you pick? My father or Coco Chanel. Tough call.

8.   What made you so determined in high school to become Queen Bee and the most popular girl at Harmony? It’s just who I have always been. I’m headstrong and people flock to that kind of personality. I went for my goals with singular minded determination. I wanted a perfect GPA, I got one. I wanted to be the head cheerleader, I was. I wanted the biggest charity event of the year, well, I got a little more of that then I planned. My parents are both very active in achieving their dreams. There was never a thought that I wouldn’t.

9.   Now that you have step siblings, do you ever wish that your parents had other children so you would have siblings of your own? NO! Are you kidding? I don’t want the step siblings I have now. I’m their princess. The one and only. I don’t need anyone else.

10.   Give advice to someone who has been in your situation this past year, when you were a senior high school. Go for what you want. Live without regrets. You only get to do this once, and why hide in the shadows when you can rise to the top with a little bit of determination.
