Laura’s Review of Bounty (Hunted Love, #2) by Aden Lowe

Synopsis
Bounty hunter Falon Harris is asked to go after outlaw biker Tom Kellen and tracks him to where he's hiding out in Stags Leap, KY, laying low and waiting for the heat to pass. Rita James operates a busy tavern/grill and occasionally rents out the little camper trailer on her back lot. Figuring the tavern is the most logical place to watch for Kellen, Falon rents the trailer for a week. The first night, while he's having dinner and watching everything, Kellen shows up and starts giving Rita a hard time. The bartender puts a stop to it, but Falon gets the idea it's happened before. Knowing Kellen's past, he knows the biker won't take no for an answer for long.

What I Loved

I like the edginess to this story a lot.  Falon right away comes off as a man you don’t want to cross, unless he’s naked and you are as well! Although he has a kind of dark side to him, there is also something about him that makes you want to reach out and heal him as well.  I love that his character is multifaceted with many different sides.  It makes the plot of the story less black and white and more gray which to me makes the plot easier to become engrossed in.  I think the same can be said for Rita as well, she’s a woman with a past and has fought her way out of many holes and have the scars to prove it.  I love that although she’s had such a rough past, and tragic in a way there is something about her that is still very relatable making her more real and down to earth.  I love that Rita speaks her mind and doesn’t put up with bullshit at all, and knows how to protect what’s her.  Rita is definitely one of my favorite overall female leads and she’s a breath of fresh water in a very big genre.

Not So Much
I think my main pet peeve about this book is that I wish it was a little bit longer.  I get that there is another book coming out, and maybe we will unearth more of Falon’s secrets and his past. But in the meantime I wish there was more attention paid to Rita’s past in this book.  I felt like even if there was just one more page going into more detail about all the drama in her life growing up and stuff I would’ve enjoyed it more.  Rita is a very relatable character and that’s great but I felt like when she does talk about her life, it was the perfect opportunity to add more.  I don’t feel that way about Falon yet because I don’t feel like that perfect opportunity has come yet, we have gotten parts of it and there has been a couple bombshells but I feel like everything with him will come to light when it’s supposed to, but with Rita it should’ve already.

To Sum It All Up!
I think if I had to compare the two the book in this series so far, this would be my favorite.  I think maybe because it’s a little bit darker, there’s more drama and a bit of a cliffhanger at the end.  I think I just really enjoyed Rita and Falon more than Kate and Jakob.  Nothing against Kate and Jakob, they are awesome but for me I like really jaded rough around the edges characters and Rita and Falon offer more of that.  Although they tend to be short novels, the foundation is still solid and the development of the plot is right on.  I cannot wait to see what happens with the four of them and pray that they all come out of this alive!
