Kari's Review of When Fates Collide by Isabelle Richards

Synopsis:

Sometimes everything needs to crash and burn before life can begin again.

Life can change in the blink of an eye. One moment, Lily is trapped in a loveless marriage. In a split second she is free, but at what cost? Her mundane life is set into a free-fall of tragedy and terror. Her husband may be out of her life, but he left a storm of collateral damage behind and the burden is on Lily to sort it out.
Fate connects Lily with Gavin, a charmingly handsome British gentleman that has been drawn into her tangled circumstance. Gavin is everything Lily’s husband wasn’t and gives her hope that love really does exist. Gavin wants nothing more than to sweep Lily up and carry her off into the sunset, far away from the devastation left behind by her husband. Gavin has been the first breath of fresh air in her life, but she isn’t looking to be saved. She needs to clean up her husband’s mess and find a way to save herself in the process.
Does she throw caution to the wind and open her heart? Or listen to her head that tells her and go it alone until she’s found herself again?

What I Loved:

Lily- Many times, the heroine can get irritating or obnoxious when they go through hardships. Not only was Lily stronger than she ever thought she was emotionally, she was physically too.  Lily knew what she didn’t want to repeat from her past, and made it clear that she wasn’t willing to fall into the trap of rushing into something with Gavin just because it felt right.

Gavin-Most heroes are swoon-worthy in the novels we read and Gavin doesn’t disappoint. I mean he is British, blonde, and blue-eyed. What sets Gavin apart from your typical hero is that he has an understanding of what Lily. Gavin sets out to make sure that he doesn’t pressure her too bad. Considering the fact that he is in the UK and Lily is in the US,  Gavin can still romance Lily in what I refer to as across-the-pond-wooing. Flowers, calls, texting, and gifts. I want my own Gavin. While he is doing all this, he is putting his own demons to rest. Its nice to see the heroine and hero battling similar obstacles which essentially bring them together.

Story-This is an action-packed ride. It is weaved in an awesomely delicate way so that the love story and the action were equal parts. Twists and turns that are unexpected, yet expected because you just know that Fate has to sometimes play games before it can collide.

What I didn’t Love:

There isn’t much. Maybe , if I absolutely have to say something, I would have preferred a bit more description of the main and secondary characters physical appearance. I try to be picky, but when a story is good, it’s just good and I see no need to carry on here with a lame attempt at finding something wrong because there wasn’t.

Overall:

Isabelle Richards secures her place in Indie Bookland with this debut. I have a feeling that what is offered from her, will always leave me wanting more, clenching my thighs, and my heart beating rapidly in my chest. A new AUTHOR TO WATCH for me!!!
