Laura’s Review of Twisted Together (Monsters in the Dark, #3) by Pepper Winters

If you have read and  loved Behind His Eyes- Convicted: This Missing Years (Consequences, #4) by Aleatha Romig, Unattainable (Undeniable, #3 by Madeline Sheehan, and Epilogue (The Dark Duet, #3) by C.J. Roberts

Basic Summary
“After battling through hell, I brought my esclave back from the brink of ruin. I sacrificed everything—my heart, my mind, my very desires to bring her back to life. And for a while, I thought it broke me, that I’d never be the same. But slowly the beast is growing bolder, and it’s finally time to show Tess how beautiful the dark can be.”

Q gave everything to bring Tess back. In return, he expects nothing less. Tess may have leashed and tamed him, but he’s still a monster inside.

After surviving the darkness, a new dawn has begun. Twisted Together wades through black to grey, chasing the light of true love to banish the shadows forever.

Pain is a requirement, connection a necessity. But ultimately Q and Tess must face their demons, before they can embrace their future.

First Impressions

Of course I started out this book very excited to finally have some resolution with Q and Tess.  How I felt when I finished Quintessentially Q was really good because Tess was finally on the mend and she was back to her old self after everything that happened but just from reading the first chapter I realize Tess’ deceit of how far she has come in her recovery and my heart broke a little more for her and for Q as well.  I am about 30% of the way through and so far the plot has me completely enthralled and addicted!

What I Loved
This book was so amazing there are no words for how much I love Tess and Q and totally had tears in my eyes as I ended this story.  I love that each chapter switched between Q and Tess’ point of view so we got to see the struggle for some sort of happiness between the both of them not just one of them.

Finally having some sort of closure with this series and experiencing all the ups and downs of their story just moved me on every page.  There are tons of ups and downs in this story; there were times when I was crying, laughing, nervous, anxious, surprised, sad, depressed, and ecstatic.  Tess’ story all on her own makes you root for her every step of the way no matter how dark she gets, or how happy she is I felt by the end, I was her number one supporter.   Then to switch to Q’s tortured soul for the sins of his father and the sins of his past I just wanted to comfort him and make him believe just how truly wonderful he is.  This book stirs up so many emotions in a reader and I can’t get enough of books that make me feel rung out to dry by the end.  I can’t get enough of dark jaded characters and this entire series delivers that in spades!

Not So Much
I really loved this book and the series as whole, I cannot say enough about how much I love Q and Tess and I am truly addicted to their story.  Saying that, this book was very wordy and at times became a little boring.  Compared to the other two books this was a long story and at times kind of rambled.  In the beginning I wasn’t quite sure where the story was taking me, I felt like Tess and Q were going down one path that just halted at a dead end then turned around and went back to where they started.  In the beginning there was very little character development and thankfully as the story went out that finally picked up.

Also I know these stories are unrealistic and definitely dabble on crossing the line to completely ridiculous but there is a part in the plot that just kind of became ridiculous to me. I’m just saying if I was tortured and my heart almost stopped I wouldn’t be up to partying the next day and for me that was a hard part of the story to really believe, but that’s just me.

This Book Was

Incredible!!  This entire series just stunned me at every turn and I love book that keep me guessing.  Tess and Q have lead such a twisted life and their stories apart will blow your mind, but together they are phenomenal.  Q is a sadist in the truest sense of the word, and I warn you if you’re not okay with that then this book isn’t for you.  Many authors write about sadists and kind of tamper down as far as what that can mean, but Pepper Winters dives right into the world of blood play and puts such an sensual spin on something most people cringe just thinking about, that you would willingly walk into Q’s dark layer.   Pepper Winters illustrates beautifully what the exact meaning of soul mates are, and shows you just how far a love for someone else can take a person.  I am so happy to have some sort of closure with this series and I won’t give away the ending but to say that as a reader I was very happy with it.

While I was in college I studied international politics and wrote many papers on human trafficking and it’s so amazing to read a book that not only talks about a love story between two people but shines light on a cause that often times isn’t talked about.  Q at a certain point talks about the victims of trafficking and to remember that these women are someone’s sisters, mothers, nieces, friends, cousins, and they had a life before they became a product to be sold.  This story stole my heart away for so many reasons and one of them was because human trafficking isn’t addressed as a statistic or something that doesn’t happen where you live, but shows you the faces of the victims and shares just how easy it is for someone to swoop in and take someone.  Human Trafficking is a cause very close to my heart that I keep up on a regular basis and I thank Pepper Winters for bringing such an unsavory issue to light.
