Finding Us by S.K. Hartley Blog Tour, Giveaway & Review!

The Rundown
Tate & Low's story.

I'm loud, I'm proud, and I like to bust balls in my spare time. At least, that's what Low Parker would do. But, she is just a mask, one that I have perfected over years of running. I am Willow Knoxx. Master of deception, secrets, and lies. I am the girl your mother told you to stay away from, and the girl your father fantasized about. I have been running for years, always looking over my shoulder. Now, the mask that I have perfected is about to disappear, and everything I have done to keep myself hidden is about to be revealed.

“Enough room?” He growled, his brow arching at my comment. “Baby, I don’t think you get it yet. I want to consume your every thought, every movement, every desire.”

His hands suddenly cupped my face as he leaned in close, his breath caressing my lips like soft silk. My pulse skyrocketed at his closeness, as it did every time he was near, sending me dizzy with lust. I could feel the vulnerability snaking its way through my body, latching onto my crimson blood as it slowly seeped through my skin. I could physically smell my vulnerability as it permeated the air around us. I could smell it, taste it, see it.

“Okay,” I squeaked, the fear of my secrets dripping from my soft voice.

“Listen, and listen good, Low. I will consume every part of you. I will consume every thought, every movement, every desire. You won’t be able to breathe without thinking of me, feeling me, wanting only me. Am I clear?”

Oh dear god.

I could feel the lump in my throat forming, choking me with every second that passed, seconds that felt like torturous hours.

“Yes,” I replied on a shaky breath.

Words had yet again failed me. I was sprouting one word answers because Tate did something to me that no man had ever accomplished. He made me feel.

His lips suddenly crashed against my own, the power he held over me pushing boundaries I didn’t know were there. His teeth scraped against my bottom lip, pulling and tugging as if pleading for entry. My head screamed, begged, and bartered, yelling at me to stop, to push back and leave. But his lips and teeth held me captive, my heart jumping at the chance to finally overpower my head, all too willing to be his victim.

The Rundown

I'm loud, I'm proud, and I like to bust balls in my spare time.  At least, that's what Low Parker would do. But she is just a mask, one I have perfected over years of running.

I am Willow Knoxx. Master of deception, secrets, and lies.

I am the girl your mother told you to stay away from, and the girl your father fantasized about. I have been running for years, always looking over my shoulder.

Now, the mask I have perfected is about to disappear, and everything I have done to keep myself hidden is about to be revealed.

First Impressions
I really enjoyed the prologue, it definitely grabbed my attention intrigued me enough to continue reading immediately.  I like that we don’t really know Willow’s story and that it is fed to us in drips in drabs, it keeps you guessing and wanting more.  I know this is part of a series but can be read as a standalone and for me I am reading it as a standalone but Low’s relationship with Neva and hearing about her love story has caught my attention enough for me to want to read the previous books, which I like.  I like that there is plenty of details of the places around Willow, because many authors leave that out.  I do feel at times the story is being told at you, instead of evolving naturally and it is messing up the flow for me.  Other than the sentences not really gelling the way I like the story is pretty good.  I’m about 32% of the way through and the action is just starting to pick up, can’t wait to finish the book!

What I Loved

This was a great story!  It definitely had a lot of twists and turns and kept me guessing at times.  I love that you know Low is hiding her past from her friends but you’re not quite sure what that past is or why she is hiding it.  It’s cool to be let in on the secret but still not completely knowing everything.  It makes the story more interesting and keeps the reader on their toes.   Although I guessed pretty early on what some of those secrets were, there were couple things that did surprise me, and I love surprises!

I love Low and Tate together, he is so in love with her and that just makes me love him even more.  They definitely went through a lot together and by the end of the book it shows how much they are truly meant to be together forever.  I also love Low’s group of friends, it’s so great when authors not only write awesome main characters, they write awesome supporting characters as well.  It helped me get more emotionally invested in the story because I got to enjoy other storylines going on around them.  I would totally love to read a book involving the twins, Zane and Colt, or a book involving Dex and Trix.

Not So Much
This was a great story, awesome plot definitely well thought out and had lots of “Holy Shit” moments.  But I felt like there were a lot of holes in the plot that kind of interrupted the flow.  The book begins with Low in college, but I have no idea what year she’s in, is it the beginning of the semester or the middle?  When she goes into detail about one of her classes it seems that the semester just began but it’s never really told.  I really have no clue where this story takes place; I know its Spring Water College but where the hell is that?  The foundation just wasn’t built well for me, maybe if I have read the other books in this series I would know but this is supposed to be a series where this book could be read as a standalone.

Also another thing that really bothered me was that, Low was supposed to be running from her past and hiding her identity so bad people couldn’t find her.  So the hell did she move to a place for six years only a couple towns over from where she grew up?  If people are after me, I would’ve run as far as physically possible and that would not be a couple of towns over.  That was a major flaw in the story and made everything for me less believable.

This Book Was…
Pretty good!  I really enjoyed this book a lot as far as the plot goes and the characters.  I love that we got to see not only what Low’s life was like in the past but before all the chaos set in you get to see what Low Parker’s life is like not just Will Knoxx.  I love how Tate just disarms Low at every corner, and how vulnerable he allows her to be at times because she definitely needed someone in her life like that.

I read this book as a standalone which was fine over all, but I wouldn’t recommend it over all.  There were tons of details left out which I felt like would’ve been answered if I read the other stories in this series.  For example, Tate goes to practice a lot but I have no idea what for?  Football maybe?  Another example is when Logan has a secret that Willow knows, and doesn’t tell Neva I still have no idea what the secret is because it’s never elaborated.  The flow of the story at times was a little stunted and I wish more story lines were more detailed especially at the end.  But just from reading this book I totally want to go back and read book one and two, and continue reading this series when the next book comes out which is fun for me.  I love finding great new series with tons of awesome characters.  Great plot, great characters, with a very sweet and happy ending!
