Laura’s Review of Fighting for Flight (Fighting #1) by JB Salsbury

If you love Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire, Real by Katy Evans, or Seducing Cinderella by Gina L. Maxwell then you love this book!!!!

Basic Summary: What happens when in order to win, youre forced to lose?

The only daughter of an infamous Las Vegas pimp, Raven Moretti grew up an outsider.  Liberated from the neglectful home of her prostitute mother, she finds solace as a mechanic.  With few friends, shes content with the simple life.  Flying under the radar is all she knows, and more than she expects.

Until she catches the eye of local celebrity, UFL playboy Jonah Slade.  Weeks away from his title fight, Jonah is determined to stay focused on everything hes trained so hard to achieve.  Undefeated in the octagon, hes at the height of his career.  But resisting Ravens effortless allure and uncomplicated nature is a fight he cant win.

Jonah trades in his bad-boy reputation and puts his heart on the line.  But when her father contacts her, setting in motion the ugly truth of her destiny, Jonah must choose.  In a high-stakes gamble where love and freedom hang in the balance a war is waged where the price of losing is a fate worse than death.

What I Love About This Book:  Im a sucker for a book that involves hot, tattooed, fighters and this book is no exception to that rule! Jonah Slade is Hot with a capital H!!!!!!   This story has a lot of twists and turns, that unfortunately involve Ravens very dysfunctional family.  There are couple times that I was holding my breath especially towards the end where everything comes to a head.

The prologue starts with Ravens birth to her father, Dominick Morretti, who to say the least is an evil man who just sees women as a commodity rather than a human being.  Ravens mother is a prostitute and felt in order to protect her daughter from her very own father she had to act like she didnt care about her own child.  Dominicks power is gained by finding a persons weakness and using it against them and the love Jonah has for Raven is no exception.

Great love story, awesome sex scenes and I am always a sucker for love at first sight. I like that Jonah is a little bit of a momma’s boy, and it creates a nice dynamic between Jonah’s mom and Raven.

Cons:  My one big negative is the fact that Raven is a virgin.  Im sick and tired of the virgins already!!! Every book you read lately the girl is either very inexperienced or a virgin.  For once I would love to see a book where its the woman that is either more experienced in sex, or more experienced with relationships.  Put a woman on equal footing with a man for once!!! It would set the story apart from others and would still be an awesome story.

Also if you’re going to make an erotica book, then from the start fill it with erotica.  I get there is a love story here and she’s a virgin and he wants to make her first time special and blah blah blah.  But at a certain point I look to see my progress in the book and I’m at 46% and still no sex!!! I mean there was a little bit of oral action, and that was great but damn it’s erotica!! Fill it with sex!!!!!!

Overall:  If you love books that involve fighters, than this book is the one for you!!! I really appreciate the fact that JB Salsbury puts a lot of detail in this book, and adds the aspect of loving cars into it.  I don’t feel like this author skipped over details about something that sounds interesting but they really have no idea what they are talking about.  From reading this book I completely believe that either the author really studied automobiles, or that is a second love for them as well.  Raven’s excitement about Judah’s cars and motorcycle were communicated so we through the words that I was just as excited and I don’t know squat about cars! I love when books are written so well they make you just as excited or heartbroken as the characters are.  This book has tons of heart stopping moments, and some bitter sweet ones as well.  The story captures you from page one and doesn’t let you go until the very end.  Can’t wait for the second in this series and get into Blake’s crazy head.
