What I Loved: Thank you Mia Sheridan! Finally a five star
read!!! What is not to love about this story? I could not put this book
down. This story grips you right from
the start and it flows to the end. Lucky for me, I had a six hour to flight to
California so I had plenty of time to get lost in this book without any kid or
hubby distractions. There is so much to
say, I am scrabbling with where to start.
I think what makes the story so intriguing is the characters. It is so easy to fall in love with Bree. You
admire her strength to get up and move to an unfamiliar town and start over. I
always say that if anything tragic happened to my family, I would have to go
pick up and start somewhere new so I wouldn’t have to see constant reminders of
what I had. I guess that hit a soft spot
for me because I admire Bree’s strength to move forward with her life. Oh, and Archer. I could not get enough of
Archer. I would speed read through the scenes without him so I can slow down
when he makes an appearance. Mia
Sheridan does a wonderful job of taking her time for the reader so we can
become fully engaged in the story of Bree and Archer.
I love that Bree was the one to break through to Archer. She
was the only one who took the time to invest in Archer and find out why he was
so withdrawn from everyone. AND what a
story that was. You heart breaks for Archer, the unfortunate path his life took
without him having any influence on it.
“When I got to the gate, I paused, looking back at the small
house behind me. It suddenly occurred to me that Archer Hale had taught himself
an entire language, but hadn’t had a single person to talk to.”
Besides the absolutely beautiful storyline, there are some
hot scenes between Bree and Archer. I
loved the innocence and purity of Archer.
He is discovering all these feelings and emotions with Bree and you
cannot help but sign as he experiences them. It brings you back your first time
and when you were with someone that you loved.
“He brought his arms from around me and his eyes seared into
mine, the look on his face somehow both nervous and hungry. I know you like my
hands in your hair. Show me other ways you like to be touched. Teach me what
you like, he said.”
The story goes back and forth between Bree and Archer’s perspective.
I actually prefer a love story to be told this way. Instead of wondering what the other character
is thinking and why they had certain reactions, the author allows us to enter
their heads and see why they do what they do.
“Sometimes I felt like I stared at her too much and tried to
look away when she caught me. I wanted to stare at her all day long though-to
me, she was the most beautiful woman in the world.” (How can you not want to
mount this man?!?!)
Bree and Archer go on such an incredible journey together
and just like Bree said, “Watching him come into himself was a thing of beauty
and I felt privileged to be a witness to it.” Yes, exactly how I felt when I
finished this book!
Not So Much: With most stories, sometimes the author can get
a little carried away with some unnecessary fluff. There were some slower
moments in the book that were unneeded.
Also, some of the dialogue between Archer and Bree were over the top. I
am all for lovie dovie but at times; it was a bit too sappy for me. And on a silly note…I couldn’t help but wonder
what sex would be like with a deaf man. I think it’s cute that they sign to
each other but I don’t know if I could have quiet sex. To me, one the fun parts
of sex is the dirty talk. I am not sure how I would feel if I had to remove my
hands from their actions to sign something dirty. That is where my mind goes.

What I Loved: After reading a long, tedious, mind blowing
book, this is the kind of book I like to jump into and just savor. It is a quick, light and sexy read. It helps when I want to be a part of the
story and actually meet and be friends with everyone in this book. The
characters!!! Everyone is just so loveable. {sigh} Oh Jake, you melt my heart!
I dare you to not fall for him and Evie is beyond adorable and sweet. The story flows and you will bang this book
out in a day or two. 
Not so Much: (Contains Spoilers) One thing that semi annoyed
me while reading this book is that I knew from the summary that Jake was Leo.
It is beyond predictable. The other
thing that bothered me was the whole back tattoo give away. You cannot tell me
that you had sex with this man (numerous times) and did not notice a whole back
piece?? No back scratching or touching? As a lover of tattooed men, the minute
your hand goes over his skin, you know there is a tattoo there and considering
that he had this huge back tattoo, there is no way that Evie had to be told to
look at that tattoo. What is the first thing you say when you know someone has
a tattoo? Let me see, right? That was just a little farfetched for me.
