What I Loved

I’ve always been a fan of Pam Godwin books and even though this was a novella the story reminded me once again why I love her so much.  Decker Gabrielli is a character that was to relate to, root for and want him to find happiness.  The story beings with him getting fired, not enough money to pay for heat in his apartment and isn’t quite sure where his next paycheck will be coming from.  Decker has truly hit rock bottom and once you find how he got there, your heart breaks for him.  His luck changes when he is introduced to the mysterious world of Infidelity.

 

        Just like him I was so anxious and excited to see who was going to get paired with! It was really cool to see how the company works outside of what I knew of it from the Infidelity series.  Right away Laynee and Decker had sparks flying everywhere no matter how hard Laynee tried to push him away.  I loved the chemistry between them and no matter what, Decker was determined to break down all of Laynee’s walls.

Not So Much

        I really don’t have any complaints, I guess my only hang up was how predictable the story was.  I think I would’ve liked some surprises or something that I didn’t see coming.  But I understand that this is a novella and because of that you can only fit so much into a story.

To Sum It All Up!

        Overall I really enjoyed watching Decker and Laynee discover each other and fall in love.  I loved how determined Decker was at proving to Laynee that there are good guys out there still.  Laynee was someone my heart went out to from the very beginning and it was easy to see why Decker was so drawn to her.  Decker is so freaking hot and adorable, and I loved getting to know him.  Even though this a novella, it’s a story packed with drama and sensuality and I loved every minute of it!

I turned back to the table, not wanting to look at Kade. "Are you aware of how many groups have formed strictly for the two of you?" I asked Kane, navigating away from the hoo-ha pic as quickly as possible and looking up the largest group I'd found. "This one is dedicated strictly to the pursuit of 'doubling down' with the Edenfield twins. It's scary how many thousands—thousands—of members are in this group. All looking to hook up with the two of you. I only found it because the recent pics of Kade have been photoshopped so many times by this group. They're using a mirror image of Kade, shifting it until it looks like both of you are there, then adding themselves to the pic so they appear to be sandwiched between the two of you. And some of them look startlingly real. That's how I discovered the group to begin with, I was half-convinced the pics were genuine when I first saw them."

My fingers flew over the keys, navigating the discussion boards. "They even have 'elite' and 'platinum' members who all swear they have hooked up with at least one of you—those are platinum—and sometimes both of you—that would be the highly-coveted elite status." I rolled my eyes, scrolling the list. It was suspiciously long, which made it even less believable than it already was.

Kane leaned over, eyeing the list. "I'd like to think I'd remember all of those."

"Yeah, but a few might be legit." This from Kade.

Kane and I both spun to look at him.

"The fuck, dude?" Kane cut his eyes to me. "That's on the 'need to know' list and she didn't need to know."

I sat there for a minute trying to school my expression so that they couldn't see the shock on my face. My mind was trying to formulate a response but I couldn't conjure a single appropriate reaction.

"Oh, I'm sure she already knows all of our dirty little secrets. How else can she be expected to fix us if she doesn't know exactly how fucked up we really are?" He glared at me. "Bet that's why she's so afraid. She's seen all the skeletons in the closet."

"She didn't know, dumbass. Look at her.” Kane sounded concerned enough that I was momentarily convinced he’d start snapping his fingers in my face to try and check my response. “She's… I don't know what to call it… stunned? Appalled?" 

"Intrigued?" Kade hungrily dragged his gaze along my face and neck.

What I Loved

        Oh my god this book was so cute and I just want to read it over and over again.  I’m a sucker for second chance romances and I loved Hayes and Saylor together.  The story begins with Saylor receiving an invitation to her ex-fiancé’s wedding and as a joke she fills out the RSVP card, but the joke is on her when her assistant mails it in. 

As the story unfolds you learn a lot about Saylor and the choices she’s made in her life, this is what hooked me to the book.  I instantly loved this girl that was struggling to make ends meet with the support of her brother, but was happy with the decisions she’s made that got her to this point.  She chose to leave her safe cushy life in order to follow her dreams and find her own happiness.

        Hayes Whitley walks back into Saylor’s life at the perfect time; she needs a hero and he wants to be hers.  Even though he chose to leave Saylor years before and follow his own dreams the chemistry between the two of them is still there the minute he walks into her bakery.  Hayes Whitley is one of the country’s biggest movie stars but to Saylor he is still her first love and the man that broke her heart, and I felt that pain as I was reading.  Saylor has been through so much and struggled with so much, it was really great to see her have a break from it all and be herself around Hayes. 

Not So Much

        I really enjoyed this book so I have no real complaints over all, but I do wish for maybe a little bit more detail.  It’s not really explained where this story is taking place at first, I had no idea what town Saylor and Hayes grew up in and where Saylor’s bakery is in comparison to Los Angeles where Hayes currently lives.  After a while you sort of get an answer but those details were never clearly explained.  Little things like that were missing from the story, like a real description of Saylor’s apartment or her childhood home.  I just would’ve liked to have seen more attention paid to the background details of the characters.

To Sum It All Up!

        Overall this was such a fun cute read that grabbed my heart and I didn’t want it to be over when it was all done.  I loved Saylor from the very beginning and I couldn’t wait for Hayes to be her knight in shining armor.  Saylor just exuded this energy that brought you into her story and made you root for her all the way.  Hayes was someone that although made decisions in the past that hurt Saylor deeply you couldn’t help but love him and root for him too.  I loved how much he adored Saylor and accepted her for who she is rather than mold her into something that fits his standards. 

        Although there were a lot sweet parts of the story there were also a lot of emotional ones that left me with tears in my eyes and gripped my heart.  I love stories that can be cute one minute and emotional the next because it shows depth in the plot and amazing writing.  Even though the book jumps right into the plot there was still a strong foundation and I loved how the story would sometimes switch to the past so you got to experience the beginning of their relationship as well.  It added so many layers to not only the story to but the characters as well, showing you the emotional toll of past decisions.  For some reason this was my first K. Bromberg book and I am now officially a huge fan and can’t wait to read more of her amazing stories.

Well I have to say that Kelli McCracken has done it again. Dylan, Heaven and yes Mr Layne Perry have entered my life again and I am caught in the web of these characters. The characters have been slowly developing and evolving as this series has continued but none more than Layne. This book really shows us the true struggles that he has been going through being part of this heavenly trio. (Yes pun intended). 

This is simply an amazing book and I couldn't stop reading it. I will not give away the plot or story because honestly you need to experience Kelli's writing genius on your own. If you haven't read the first two books in the series it is advised that you do so. I am so in love with what I learned about Layne and I love how his character is developing and I am learning more about him. He is such a tortured soul fighting what he knows he should do and what his heart desires. This book really showed me a glimpse into the heart of him.

The struggles that Heaven and Dylan face as they try to start their journey together is faced with challenges and struggles. It is through their love for each other that will only see them through it all. So Kelli you have me hooked, line and sinker. I love an author that can pull me into the story and have me walking the steps with the characters and that is what I feel I have done with this book. Do I recommend this book... Yes! Do I think it deserves five stars... No I think it deserves a million stars. I love, love, love this book and I look forward to the next chapter in this story and to find out what journey you will take me on next
