Laura’s Review of One with You (Crossfire, #5) by Sylvia Day

Synopsis
Gideon Cross. Falling in love with him was the easiest thing I've ever done. It happened instantly. Completely. Irrevocably.

Marrying him was a dream come true. Staying married to him is the fight of my life. Love transforms. Ours is both a refuge from the storm and the most violent of tempests. Two damaged souls entwined as one.

We have bared our deepest, ugliest secrets to one another. Gideon is the mirror that reflects all my flaws ... and all the beauty I couldn't see. He has given me everything. Now, I must prove I can be the rock, the shelter for him that he is for me. Together, we could stand against
those who work so viciously to come between us.

But our greatest battle may lie within the very vows that give us strength. Committing to love was only the beginning. Fighting for it will either set us free ... or break us apart.

Heartbreakingly and seductively poignant, One with You is the breathlessly awaited finale to the Crossfire® saga, the searing love story that has captivated millions of readers worldwide.
What I Loved
Well, I’ve been waiting for this book for quite some time!  I was in such a hurry to get my hands on the final installment in the Crossfire series but at the same time not wanting to say goodbye to Gideon and Eva. They have stirred so many emotions in me and I have been on this crazy journey with them from beginning to end.  The story picks up where Captivated by You ends with Eva and Gideon on sturdier ground and for me that’s probably what made this book enjoyable the most.  It’s the first time seeing Eva and Gideon finally secure in their love and trust for one another and I really loved watching that.

Although the sex was a little bit more played down in this last book, the chemistry between these two was still very much alive and well! Gideon and Eva can’t keep their hands off each other and it’s one of the things I love most about them.  Watching them settle into everyday life though was probably the most rewarding for me and watching their relationship grow into something more real and lasting.  Of course, there was a ton of drama till the very end of the book, but these two faced it together for once rather than apart and I absolutely loved that.

Not So Much
There is a TON of stuff that happens in this book and it was hard at a certain point to keep everything straight.  The story was organized and how everything unfolded made sense so that was fine, but there was just a little bit too going on much for me.

I feel like there was so much drama already in this series and there were already a lot plot lines that needed closure, so did we really need to add in other elements into the mix?  I understand the purpose of all this drama swirling around Eva and Gideon but towards the end I just felt like my head was going to explode because it was just one thing after the other.

For me, as an ending of a series simplifying things and adding more detail to the plot lines that are already existing would’ve been the better way to go.  It didn’t take away from my overall emotion towards Eva and Gideon though, I still love very much and they will always have a special place in my heart!

To Sum It All Up!
Overall, I’m going to truly miss Eva & Gideon.  Going on this roller coaster ride with them has been amazing to say the least.  Anytime Gideon and Eva would be in a room alone together you know any second clothes were coming off and a steamy sex scene was in the works.

Starting this book it was great to finally see Gideon and Eva on stable ground and what their love and trust for one another could build.  A lot gets thrown at them from the very beginning so it was nice to get over the whole will they won’t they crap and see how the two of them were going to handle things as a team and move forward.

I just wish that the story stayed on track especially as it being the final installment in the series.  This is supposed to be Eva and Gideon’s story and instead it kind of became a little bit of a mystery and lead me in a different direction.  To me it added a plot lot that didn’t really serve a huge purpose or it was something that could’ve been added into one of the other books rather than the last.  Also, due to all this focus going in a different direction there wasn’t a whole lot of closure to storylines that I think deserved it.  Such as Cary’s predicament with Trey & Tatiana, or Gideon’s relationship with his mother and brother.  We do get a HEA with Gideon and Eva of course, they started this one on solid ground and certainly ended it even better than that.  The love they have for each other was undeniable from the very beginning.  I’m going miss their fire and passion probably most and although this might be the last novel in this series I hope this isn’t the last we hear from them completely.
