Is that how a
little girl sits?
No, Daddy.
How should a little
girl sit?
Shoulders back and
tummy in.
And how should a
little girl look?
Always neat and
pretty
That’s my girl.
Twenty-four-year-old
Alexa Kennedy is beautiful, sharp as a whip, and at the top of her medical
school class. She’s also been waging a war in her head for as long as she can
remember. Depression. Hatred. Self-loathing. These feelings feed the pain
inside her, fueling her quest for a perfection that she can never
achieve.
In one
life-changing moment, Dex Blakewell crashes into her world. Dex is funny,
gorgeous, and irresistible. He chases away the darkness and fills her with
light and laughter. An unusual friendship blossoms, making no demands or
expectations.
Friendship turns
into an unexpected love and a delicious passion. Alexa realizes that the only
thing tethering her to sanity is their connection. But even Dex’s strength
can’t keep her demons at bay forever.
When life
overwhelms her, the outside world starts to mirror her inner turmoil. And when
Dex discovers she’s been keeping horrible secrets, will she finally shatter or
find a way through the darkness? Will the promise of love be enough to save her
from self-destruction?

Overcoming the past
and finding love.
Alexa has high
expectations for herself. As a third year medical student, she is on the path
to become valedictorian of her class and she has baggage--really big
baggage.
Enter Dex...Dex is
a self made man. Having overcome a difficult past, he works hard to be a
success and enjoys the fruits of his labors. That is until the day they
literally run into each other.
Neither Alex or Dex
has the time or inclination for a relationship but they strike up an unlikely
friendship. The chemistry between them becomes too much for them to deny and
they become lovers. But the issues that Alexa has kept hidden are more
difficult to conceal as they get closer and inevitably threaten the Alexa's
future and the future of their relationship.
I loved this book.
Both Alexa and Dex are extraordinarily likable and well developed characters.
The struggles the characters face and the relationship between them feels
authentic. Lisa Eugene once again * manages to balance dealing with sensitive
subject matter as she builds a red hot love story. I highly recommend this
amazing novel. ~~ Catherine

Wow! Another
fantastic read by Lisa Eugene.
This book is not
all your happy rainbows and unicorns!
This is deep and
heart wrenching, it contains real life situations that affect more of us
everyday.
I love Dex and
Alexia, but can love be enough to save her from herself?
You see, Alexia
struggles everyday, she fights with herself but can she see past herself and
her demons to love herself and be loved?
You desperately
scream at her to stop, you cry with her and for her and your aches for the both
of them.
This is a must read
book! ~~ Kimberley

Ms. Eugene handles
the very tough subject of mental illness amazingly. I was breathless and had to
put it down a few times because it felt like she was in my head.
Alexa is a 4th year
med student. The heart break of being a doctor is touched on briefly as she
finds out a child that she has been treating is dying. On her way to the
hospital she has a car accident with a man she thinks is a complete jerk. Turns
out that Dex is a hero even with his own issues. He doesn't do relationships.
He and Alexa become best friends and that turns into an epic love story. The
story isn't pretty at times. After all the subject of eating disorders, mental illness,
and physical and mental abuse are throughout the story.
Will Dex be able to
help Alexa, find her voice, find her sanity, will Alexa be able to find the
help she needs to heal and see what she has to offer the world and see what Dex
sees when he looks at her and not what she sees in the mirror.
If you are in the
market for dark erotic romance - This one is should be at the top of your list.
The characters are stunning, the plot line is fluid and keeps you involved, the
subject is dark but dealt with as a reality not sensationalized. I laughed with
them, I cried with them, I wanted to die with them and you will too! Want a
book that makes you feel - this one will make you feel and make you think! ~~

Lisa Eugene began
writing as a way to mentally escape from the hectic medical world where she has
been a practicing nurse for over twenty years. After publishing her first
novel, STRICTLY BUSINESS, she quickly learned that readers couldn't get enough
of the world she created and now she lives out her wildest fantasies by writing
steamy romantic suspense for her fan-favorite Washington Memorial Hospital
series.
When she's not
plotting her next dangerous, fast-paced, sexy adventure, you can find her
juggling a full time job, playing soccer mom, or curled up reading a good
romance. Lisa loves hearing from fans; be sure to connect with her on Twitter
