Laura’s Review of Anguish (Jokers’ Wrath MC, #3) by Bella Jewel

Synopsis
There are a lot of things in this world that are easy to escape from. Having a son you didn't ask for isn't one of them.

Mack is a nomad. He likes his own space and he struggles with emotion. His past is grey and his future looks about the same. That is until his ex-girlfriend dies and his son is handed over to him. A two month old baby he didn't know existed. Until now.

His world comes crashing down around him.

Desperate, he hires a nanny.

Jaylah has gotten herself into some serious trouble, so when she sees the job opening for a nanny pop up, she jumps on it. Of course she's not a nanny, but she figures she can pull it off. I mean, how hard can it be?

She's thrown into a world of diapers, hourly feedings and a whole lot of laundry. She's also introduced to the most rugged, gorgeous man she's ever had the pleasure of meeting.

The best part, he's the baby's father.

The worst part, he's a biker.

Their sexual tension is huge, but he's a hard nut to crack. She'll get in, though. She makes it her mission to break through the wall Mack has built so high around himself.

Her world is about to spiral out of control, and she's taking Mack along for the ride.

What I Loved
Jaylah is an interesting character to say the very least, we meet her desperate to come up with money she owes a pretty big drug dealer and somehow lands a job as a nanny.  Mack definitely captivated me in Melancholy and the very end of that book definitely made me want to jump right into his story.  There’s very little we know about Mack before this book begins and from the very start there is a depth to Mack that needed to be uncovered.  Mack throws tons of attitude around but from the moment Jaylah steps into his house, she refuses to put up with it and delivers it right back.  Amongst all that chaos and drama in Mack and Jaylah’s lives, Jaylah’s behavior lends to some lighter moments in the book breaking some of the tension with her outgoing personality.  I love how she gets right in Mack’s face and refuses to put with his shit.

Jalyah is exactly what Mack needs at exactly the right moment.  She doesn’t give him a choice after a while forcing him to become a part of his son’s life.  It’s obvious Jaylah is no nanny but because she quickly falls in love with Diesel that made it easy for me to quickly fall in with her.  I love the constant arguing between Jaylah and Mack because it just adds to the already palpable sexual tension brewing between them and I couldn’t wait for it all to explode!  Mack is one hard shell to crack but once it does, there is no way not to fall in love with this man.  I can honestly say that Mack is probably one of my favorite characters in this series.

Not So Much

There was a little bit more background detail in this installment so I was happy about that.  Yet we still don’t get the kind of detail that has the potential to make this series beyond amazing.  There are some inconsistencies that were just too obvious to me that took me out of the story rather than pulling me in.  The colloquialisms were all wrong if this story is supposed to take place in America, diapers are referred to as nappies then called diapers again.  This all just confused me more and more about where this all supposed to be taking place.  For me inconsistencies just really annoy me because they can be so easily avoided especially when they are blaring.

To Sum It All Up!
So far this is my favorite story in the series because not only is there a ton of action and sex but humor as well.  My heart definitely broke for Jaylah at certain points, and Mack’s pain and anguish was obvious and right at the surface the entire time.  It was wonderful to watch Jaylah heal Mack’s very real wounds and Mack start to become the man I know he could be.  I just wish there were more details because it would totally lend to the foundation of this series as a whole which would add more gravity to every single story.

To me Mack and Jaylah so far are my favorite characters and it was so enjoyable reading their love story.  We do meet Marcus from the ‘Til Death series which was great because we got to understand the connection between Marcus and the Jokers’ Wrath MC which hasn’t really been explained before.  I like that not only do we get to watch Jaylah and Mack grow as characters we get to see the rest of the gang grow and develop as well.  I really liked Anguish because it wasn’t as chaotic and crazy as Melancholy and that made it feel more grounded and emotional.  Pippa and Tyke’s story is next and I certainly cannot wait to get my hands on that book!
