Laura’s Review of Precarious (Joker’s Wrath MC, #1) by Bella Jewel

Synopsis
In darkness, we find danger. In danger, I find Beau.

Ash is a prison guard, she's tough, she's strong and she never backs away from a fight. She takes her job seriously, she takes her training seriously, and everything in her life goes as planned.

Until the day he is brought into the prison.

She'll never forget meeting Beau 'Krypt' Dawson for the first time. She'll never forget his haunted eyes and his numb expression. He's a member of the Jokers Wrath MC and it is said he killed an innocent family in the middle of a cafe, in cold blood.

Deranged. Crazy. Psychotic.

All those words describe the infamous Krypt, but Ash suspects there's far more to the quiet man than meets the eye. Secrets are being hidden by the club, information is being kept under wraps. Krypt is silent for a reason.
Ash is desperate to know that reason.

Continually fighting, Krypt is transferred to a high security prison. Ash is in charge. She's always prepared, always alert. Not even her skills will stop the club from ambushing them and taking back Krypt. Only Ash ends up right in the middle of it.

They take her, too.

Now she's stuck with a Motorcycle Club who are tougher than any prisoner she's ever laid eyes on. And they won't let her go. She's too much of a risk. Until the situation can be sorted, they send her and Krypt into the mountains together....alone.

An epic, dangerous love will be built on the foundations of darkness.

What I Loved
I was really excited to start this series, since I’ve read the ‘Til Death series and met some of the characters they totally intrigued me.  Plus I have a weakness for biker stories so I was happy to start a new series that involves hot sex and even hotter bikers.  Precarious definitely didn’t disappoint, Ash and Krypt caught and kept my attention the entire time I was reading.  Krypt intrigued me from the very minute he stepped into that prison and all I wanted to do since that moment was unlock all that was him.  Let me tell you, once I learned more about this alpha male I was not disappointed in the least.  Amongst his many powers was unlock a side in a straight laced girl she didn’t know existed until she met the hot new prisoner.

Ash at first wasn’t my favorite, she was a little too boring for me, a little too black and white.  I’m a complex lady so I love complex characters, but as time went on and I learned more about Ash I really began to love her.  She is one bad ass bitch that I definitely wouldn’t mess with at all.  She stood up to not only Krypt but Maddox as well and he is one scary man.  Ash is a girl that can definitely hold her own, and from a young age had goals for her life and went about accomplishing them.  My heart broke for her at times, especially when it was obvious she put her trust in the wrong people and that just endeared her to me more.  She was a little wishy washy when it came to Krypt at times, but any relationship in the beginning is scary so I understood her hesitations.

Not So Much
There was a ton of sex in this story and I absolutely loved that, so I’m not going to knock that at all. But I wish there was more depth in the scenes between Krypt and Ash when they weren’t having sex.  It would’ve added to the overall experience of the reader giving the plot more gravity.  Their solution to most of their problems was sex which is great but at least talk afterwards about what was really bothering you.  It made Ash seem a little bit more passive then she was initially I get it made her a more complex character but it shouldn’t contradict her other characteristics it should complement them.

The lack of background details once again was blaringly apparent and I’m sure this will be an issue with me throughout the series.  Once again I have no idea where this plot is taking place.  Is this supposed to be in Australia or the US?  It’s hard to tell at times and the author doesn’t mention it once where this town they all live in actually is.  Some of the colloquialisms come off as Australian so I’m assuming that’s the country this story is supposed to be taking place in.  I just have a hard time understanding how an author can write an entire book without mentioning at least what part of the world this is all supposed to be taking place in.

To Sum It All Up!
Overall this was an enjoyable first book to a new series.  I’m a sucker for masculine super alpha males and Krypt was definitely just that.  From the very beginning Krypt was this mystery that I couldn’t wait to unwrap.  When I finally got to know what makes Krypt tick I was one very satisfied lady!

The sexual tension was apparent from the very second Ash lays on eyes on Krypt no matter the fact that he was a prisoner and she a guard.  I really loved how the plot developed and how the end of this story leads into the next.  I do wish the character development was more on point from beginning to end, because in some ways I felt like Ash took a couple steps back as a character rather than forward.  Saying that I did like how the relationship between Krypt and Ash developed as the plot went on, I even enjoyed the kinky scene towards the end.  It actually said a lot more about Krypt then I thought it would’ve, because it showed how open minded he could be when it comes to someone he loves.  This was definitely a strong first book and I can’t wait to see where this series goes.
