Laura’s Review of Desertion (Knights Rebels MC, #3) by River Savage

Synopsis

Honor.
Courage.
Commitment.

Three things Jesse Carter has lost. A former Marine, Jesse used to stand proud of his achievements and live by the code. But when circumstance made him question everything he believed in, those most basic values didn’t feel so important after all.

Sex.
Lies.
Knights Rebels.

Three things Jesse Carter has found. Reborn into a brotherhood not so different from the one he left behind, Jesse finds it all too easy to block out his past and claim the role as the Rebels' fun loving player.
Until he meets Bell.

Shy, awkward, and with troubles of her own, Bell Johnson's no stranger to hiding her pain. When Jesse forces himself into her life, she’s at risk of her defenses crumbling.

Does Bell have the strength to survive Jesse and his demons or is she fated to become another casualty in the self-destruction of Jesse Carter?

What I Loved
First of all yay! I was so happy to finally get to Jesse’s story and watch the biggest player of the Knights Rebels fall head over heels in love.  Jesse has always been one of my favorite supporting characters in this series and now I am officially in love with the man.  It was so great digging into Jesse’s life and see what has haunted this man for so long.  Jesse is definitely a character I can get behind and he made it so easy for me to become captivated with his and Bell’s story.

Bell was written so beautifully, she is a woman who has been through a lot and is just trying to make it day by day.  She’s left to pick up the pieces of her family and throughout the book realizes it’s time to make a life of her own.  I loved how shy and timid she could be but so determined and focused at the same time.  She’s a character that is easy to relate to, and I pretty much fell in love with her immediately.

I love drama and heartache in books because it makes the sweet and sexy stuff all the more better.  This book was packed with lots of sexy ups and a lot of heart breaking downs.  The love scenes between these two was nothing less than steaming.  I’m pretty sure I had to fan my face a couple times while reading.

 Not So Much
I think my main complaint with this series in general is the lack of scene detail.  I really don’t know what Bell’s house looked like or what her room was decorated as.  The same can be said for Jesse’s room at the clubhouse or the clubhouse in general.  Also these books never really tell you in what part of the country this is all taking place, let alone what state.  I get that this is a series but they can be read as standalones and I can’t remember all the details I read in Book One about the town they live in when I’m reading book three months or even years later.  I’m not saying everything needs to be built from scratch each and every time but a couple paragraphs added in to describe the scenery and the town would be nice.

To Sum It All Up!
This was another awesome book from River Savage!  Each book makes me a bigger and bigger fan of hers and I will probably read whatever she decides to write next.  I absolutely cannot get enough of Jesse and Bell! It was so wonderful to watch these characters develop throughout the story and see their love grow for one another.  It was also so great to see the other characters from the past books continue on their journey as well.  This plot ended a little differently than the others but I had a sense that this was where the story was going so I was okay with it and actually liked it a little more.  I’m looking forward to the next Knights Rebels story and the new spinoff as well.
