Synopsis
When a legendary
predator decides prize horses should be on his menu, Kate takes the advice of
her neighbor ranchers and hires a big game hunter to track the mountain lion
and remove the threat. The hunter arrives to take up the trail, but instead of
the seasoned older man she expects, he's young and impossibly sexy.
Freshly back from deployment to Afghanistan as a Special Forces operative,
Jakob needs to clear his head of the horrors of war. When his uncle is injured,
Jakob steps in to fulfill the older man's commitment to hunt down a mountain
lion on the other side of the state. The prospect of several days in the
wilderness with only his horses and dogs for company sounds like the ideal
opportunity. Except the infuriating female rancher insists on going along for
the ride.
What I Loved
I really enjoyed this story for many reasons, one of which is
how hot and amazing Jakob is and where can I find me one of those? The minute the
story switched to his point of view, I was like okay now this book is going to
get interesting, and very hot! I think I immediately fell in love with both
Kate and Jakob, I don’t know what it is about them that I loved so much but
there was something. I think I mostly
liked the fact that they were both suffering a loss of someone they loved and at
the same time trying to find their paths in life. I loved how confident Kate was, and how
knowledgeable she was about all the comings and goings ons on the land she
owned. It was obvious how much she loved
her job, even if it wasn’t her first choice in life she still took pride in her
what she did. I loved that Jakob just
wanted Kate so badly he was thinking like a teenage boy rather than a grown man,
and ignored any type of physical limitations Kate might have. I love that Kate didn’t hold herself back no
matter what her limitations were, and that Jakob didn’t baby her because of it. There chemistry was immediate and insatiable
and I couldn’t wait for them to just tear each other’s clothes off and go at
it!

Not So Much
I’m a huge fan of drama and action, and although I felt like
the plot was solid I wish there was more to it.
I was kind of waiting for something big and dramatic to happen,
something that would have my heart pounding or my jaw on the floor and that
never really happened for me. This was a
great quick read, which awesome characters but I would’ve liked a little bit
more to the plot. Give me tears,
yelling, and broken hearts any day of the week and I will coming running!
To Sum It All Up!
I think what I enjoyed
the most about this story is that I think I actually learned a lot. I have no idea what it’s like to live on a
ranch, I don’t know the names of breeds or horses, and I most certainly don’t
know how to hunt down a mountain lion.
But I kind of learned all that by reading this story! I’m not saying I
can now go off and run my own ranch or anything, but I love when I feel like an
author can go into great detail about a subject so completely I walk away a
little bit more knowledgeable. I love
when authors write what they know, and there is no doubt in my mind that Aden
Lowe knows plenty about ranching, or at least has studied it. The details in this book were great, as well
as the sexual tension between Kate and Jakob.
I love that both were willing to jump into whatever type of relationship
was forming between them and then where that lead them. There was definitely some very hot sex scenes
between these two and I am glad I got to meet Kate and Jakob and watch them
fall for each other. I do wish this book
was a little bit longer though, but that could just be because I loved this
story so much!
