Laura’s Review of Fighting the Fall (Fighting, #4) by J.B. Salsbury

Synopsis
The toughest fighters aren’t created in the octagon but are born of necessity. When life delivers blow after punishing blow, you fight back or get destroyed.

Eve Dawson has had her fill of bad luck. A string of unhealthy relationships has left her angry, bitter, and frustrated. She’s given up on being happy and settles for content. Swearing off men, she repels advances and makes herself a challenge to even the most persistent suitors. After all, how much can the fragile human heart take? But life isn’t finished with her, and when things can’t possibly get worse . . . they do.

Stay on your feet.

It’s Cameron Kyle’s motto, but with his fighting career ripped from his grasp, a child he wasn’t strong enough to save, and a marriage that even the brawn of a heavyweight couldn’t hold together, it’s getting harder and harder to stay upright. He takes on the position of CEO of the UFL, intent on hiding his biggest weakness in order to forge a path that leads him back into the octagon.

When an old rival mysteriously gets wind of Cameron’s plan to fight again, he comes out of retirement to settle old debts, but secrets, lies, and betrayal threaten to deliver the death-blow. The distraction of a sass-mouthed girl seventeen years his junior is the last thing he needs until a tragic accident shatters the firm foundation of his resolve and he realizes just how far he’s fallen.

Will they risk it all and fight to be together?

Or does defeat lie within the fall?

What I Loved
First of all I absolutely love this series, I have a soft spot for huge men that beat the crap out of each other so any fighter story is right up my alley but I don’t know what it is about this series that captures my heart every single time.  Fight the Fall immediately sucked me into and broke my heart a little all the same time.  Cameron has kind of intrigued me from the other books so I was excited to get inside this dudes head and see just what the hell is going on in there and boy as I not disappointed in the least.  Right away I fell in love with Cameron Kyle and everything that he is, such a wonderful man and character to get to know.

Eve on the other hand was a little bit of a different story, I have to admit in the first book she kind of pissed me off and was definitely not one of my favorite characters so I was a little apprehensive to get to know her.  From Fighting the Flight she just seemed like someone who kind of got in the way and wasn’t all that smart.  But I can honestly say that I am an Eve convert and absolutely love her now.  To read all she’s been through and how beautiful and strong she can truly be was such an amazing transformation to me and I loved every minute of it.

The chemistry between Cameron and Even is off the charts, and I love that this book got right down to business pretty quickly because that meant I got to enjoy lots of naked Cameron time and seriously, who wouldn’t enjoy that?  Cameron is one hot muscular sexy man that I want more of, right now!

Not So Much
Since this is a 5 star review obviously this section of my review is going to be very short.  I wish there was more fighting in these stories.  I get this series isn’t really about the UFL, and about the fights, it’s about a group of people who have found their happiness one by one.  But I would like to see more fighting in the stories, the matches are kind of just brushed over and there is no real detail involved when it comes to them in the ring and I would like to see more of that.  Like I said there is nothing sexier to me that a strong dude that beats the crap out of another dude, I guess I would just like to see some actual fights with more detail.

To Sum It All Up!

I really loved this story, the very prologue of this story I was immediately sucked into Cameron’s life, and even though Eve wasn’t my favorite person in the past this story made me a true Eve believer.  You don’t just root for one of these character’s happiness, you root for every single of them.  Not only did you get to experience Cameron and Eve’s story, you get to watch the continuation of Jonah and Raven’s lives as well which was awesome.  There were times when I was a little teary eyes, there were a couple times when I laughed, and there times my jaw was on the floor, but I was addicted the entire time no matter what.  Such a wonderful heartwarming story that I absolutely loved, and I can’t wait to see whose next!
