Laura’s Review of Promised (One Night, #1) by Jodi Ellen Malpas

If you have read and enjoyed Fixed On You (Fixed, #1) by Laurelin Paige, Into the Darkness (The Dark Angel Series, #1) by Kat T. Masen, and Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) by E.L. James then you are going to LOVE this book!

Synopsis
Livy notices him the moment he walks into the coffee shop. He's heart-stoppingly stunning, with a blue-eyed gaze so piercing she's almost too distracted to take his order. When he walks out the door, she thinks she'll never see him again. Then she finds the note he left on his napkin . . . signed M.

All he wants is one night to worship her. No feelings, no commitment, nothing but pleasure. Every defense mechanism Livy has adopted during her solitary life is at risk of being obliterated by this confounding man. He's obnoxious but well-mannered. He's a gentleman but aloof. He's passionate but emotionless. Yet the fascination is so powerful, Livy can't deny him... or herself.

M awakens something in Livy, something deep and addictive that she never knew existed -- and that she fears only he can satisfy. But she senses that behind the fast cars, fancy suits, and posh apartment, he's aching inside. To have him, body and soul, she'll have to brave his dark secrets. Delving into his world and breaking down his defenses become her obsession - an obsession that could shatter her heart beyond repair..

What I Loved
This was sensual, sexual, erotic, filled with desire, as well as crazy, emotional, and fast paced.  Jodi Ellen Malpas has dropped us into her world of irrational desire and boiling sexuality.  The book starts off with a very intriguing prologue, sucking you into this very dark desperate world.  We soon meet Livy, a girl kind of struggling to find her way in the world and what she wants out of it, but has also found herself in a rut.  She meets a mysterious beautiful stranger that turns her world upside down and shines a light on her dreary mundane life.

I loved the immediate desire between Miller and Livy, I love their uncontrollable lust for each other and I ate up every single sex scene between the two.  I love that although Livy in some way is less experienced than Miller, she isn’t so wide eyed and innocent as she seems.  It sort of sets her apart from the “virginal” female stereotype that we find in many of these kinds of stories. There are no words for how hot I find Miller Hart, and I ate up every word in every single scene he was in.  I love how he worships Livy and his little quirks made me giggle and smile which was refreshing while reading a book like this.

Not So Much
I am of course addicted this series, books like this are right up my alley and I cannot get enough of it.  Saying that, I kind of wish there was a little bit more that set this series apart from the others like it.  I really love Livy, but I’m kind of over these female leads constantly asking “why me?” all the time.  I want to see a female character where they have the confidence to know they deserve smoking hot, fucked up man.  In some ways because she just didn’t feel good enough constantly, it became annoying and took my emotions out of the story.

Also I kind of felt like the background details were really amazing in some areas, like when Livy walks into Miller’s apartment but when it comes to her and Nan’s home the same consideration wasn’t taken.  I would’ve liked to have known what reflections of Livy’s character are in her bedroom, or what little touches Nan has made over the years that makes it a home.

This Book Was…

Awesome!! The desire between Livy and Miller right from the very beginning was palpable.  From the minute Miller walked onto the scene I instantly couldn’t get enough of him, and I love every single time Miller and Livy were together.  There is so much going on in this story and I cannot even imagine what the next book in this series will bring.  Of course there is a HUGE bomb dropped towards the end, and because I have a sick twisted mind I kind of guessed what it was early on.  But that didn’t take away from the turmoil, the drama, and the raging emotions that fly around at the end.  If you don’t guess early on then prepared to be stunned with your jaw on the floor because it’s amazing! Great book, amazing beginning to another awesome series by Jodi Ellen Malpas; I loved the This Man series so I know that as this story goes on I will only love it more!
