Laura’s Review of Fighting to Forget (Fighting, #3) by J.B. Salsbury

If you have read and enjoyed Whethering the Storm (The Storm, #2) by Samantha Towle, Seducing Cinderella (Fighting for Love, #1) by Gina L. Maxwell, and Rock Bottom (Tristan & Danika, #2) by R.K. Lilley then you will LOVE this book!

I put this song here because I was listening to it and it reminded me of this book & then I saw the author's playlist and it was on it, so I knew this song was just meant to be a part of this story

Basic Summary

Fighting to Forget

Every Fighter is drawn to the violence, the release that a perfect hit can bring.

But very few are drawn to the pain.

Rex Carter lives behind a wall of indifference.  The demons from his childhood act as an anesthetic, keeping him distant from emotional connections.  Only the ache from a knock to the jaw, the sting of a tattoo needle, or the heat from a piercing can jolt him back from the numbness.  The fiery pain is all he can feel, and nothing compares to the burn.

Or so he thought.

Working in a Las Vegas bar isn’t Georgia McIntyre’s dream.  But she hopes it’ll be an end to the nightmare. She’s watched him, followed him and kept tabs, all in preparation for this moment: to make amends and share the secret she’s been carrying since she was a kid.  But she didn’t count on the feelings that seeing him again would stir up, the vacant look in his stormy-blue eyes, and his perfect body now mutilated by ink and metal.

And she knows why.  She’s lived his pain every single day, since the day he left.

Changed by time, Rex doesn’t remember the girl from his past.  If only she could do the same.

Will she get the absolution she’s spent her life seeking?

First Impressions

Wow well I don’t even know where to begin.  The prologue takes place in Nothing, Arizona, 1999 when Rex and Mac were young children and almost immediately I had tears in my eyes and my heart was pounding out of my chest.  I’m addicted to books that not only suck you in immediately but also make you feel like you’ve been punched in the stomach with your heart in millions of little pieces.  Fighting to Forget delivered that and then some!  You instantly fall in love Rex and Mac, and I wanted to comfort them and heal them immediately.  Such an amazing and bittersweet story so far and I cannot wait to find out more.

What I Loved

The plot of this story sucks you in from the very beginning and just doesn't let go until the very last word.  There are so words to describe how much I absolutely love Rex and my heart just breaks for him every time he had to deal with one of his compulsions or thinks of himself as a freak because he can’t remember why he is this way.

On the other side of things my heart went out to Mac/Gia for not only going through a crappy childhood, witnessing what was done to Rex as a child, but has to hold all this inside of her because no one believed her as a child and is scared to open up as an adult.

I can’t get enough of books that not only make you cry but rip your heart out and stomp on it, and that happened so many times while reading this book.  There are just tons of emotions that flow through you while reading and I couldn't put the book down.  I needed to get to their happily ever after because their story at times was just haunting.

Not So Much
Okay so this is a first for me but I don’t really have any negative things to say about this book.  I will warn you that there are times when it’s hard to read and if you aren’t in the mood for an emotional dark story dealing with VERY jaded characters then this is not the story for you.

This Book Was…

Unbelievably beautiful!  This story is just filled with darkness and horrors that you wouldn’t wish for on your worst enemy.  I immediately fell in love Rex and wanted to be his biggest cheerleader because he just deserves so much happiness and love and it broke my heart all that crap he had to deal with his entire life.  The climax of this story just broke my heart and had my heart racing with my jaw on the floor.  I could not put this book down, I couldn’t get enough of Mac/Gia and I just wanted Rex to be her hero so badly.   I was an on an emotional rollercoaster the entire I was reading and when I finished I just wanted more Rex and Gia.  Such an amazing story and plot line, I love this series so much.   I love that we not only experienced Rex and Gia’s story but got to see Raven and Jonah’s story continue as well as Layla and Blake’s.  I want more J.B. Salsbury and I want it now!
