Laura’s Review of Kaleidoscope (Colorado Moutain, #6) by Kristen Ashley

If you’ve read Down London Road (On Dublin Street, #2) by Samantha Young, Axel (Corps Security, #1) by Harper Sloan, and Heavy Issues (Bowen, #2) by Elle Aycart than you are going to LOVE this book!!!

Basic Summary
When old friends become new lovers…anything can happen.

Sexy, gifted, and loyal, PI Jacob Decker is a tall, cool drink of perfection who had Emmanuelle Holmes at “hello”.  His relationship with Emme’s best friend kept them part for years, but things have changed.  Now that a case has brought him to Gnaw Bone, Colorado, the road is wide open for Emme and Deck to explore something hotter and deeper than Emme dreamed possible.  So why is she sabotage the best things that’s ever happened to her?

It isn’t easy to catch Deck off guard, but Emme does just that when she walks back into his life after long years.   The curvy brunette had her charms back in the day, but now she’s a bona fide knockout…and she wants to rekindle their friendship.  Deck, however, wants more.  Emme’s always been the one; she excites Deck’s body and mind like no other woman can.  But a dark chapter from Emme’s past overshadows their future together.  Now only Deck can help her turn the page-if she’ll let him…

What I Loved
So yeah, I’m moving to Colorado tomorrow to find me a Jacob Decker pronto!  There is nothing about Jacob Decker I don’t love.  He is hot, bossy, protective, hot headed, cute, romantic, and amazing in bed.  Plus he’s got an awesome house with a great dog and heated pool!! Jacob Decker is just awesome all around and I want more.  What I love about Kristen Ashley’s male characters is how manly they are, and they are not the type to beat around the bush.  There is nothing I love more than a straight shooter and Decker definitely fits into this category.  He is a man that doesn't bull shit, and when he really wants something he goes for it full throttle and he did exactly that to climb back into Emmanuelle Holmes’ heart.

I also just love Emme so so much!  She is awesome in the book and I love her because she doesn’t fight the attraction between the two of them.  I love Kristen Ashley but it got to be annoying reading these female leads who tried to dump the dude every five minutes.  Of course Emme has her own issues and pushes Decker away at times but once you read this book you’ll understand why.  If I was in her situation I would about twenty times more messed than she was so she had reasons to feel what she was feeling.  Emme to me is a very real woman is all on her own is very established and independent and I love that her relationship with Decker doesn't overshadow that part of her.  She sticks to her guns when she needs to and compromises when it’s right but doesn't let people walk all over her.  Being a political science major I love to argue politics so I was cracking up reading the parts where she and Decker would argue about society issues and our wonderful politicians.  These arguments to me had my cracking up at certain points.

Also with any Kristen Ashley book you get a whole cast of characters and it’s so great to see the continuation of Faye and Chace’s relationship and there is totally very touching moment in this book that involves Chace and Decker.  Also you get to see more of Lexie and Ty, Nina and Maxx, Reece and Zara, and Lauren and Tate.  Also we got a little bit of some Rock Chick in this book with a scene involving Lee Nightingale and of course Emme being from Denver Fortnum’s is even mentioned.  This just makes me miss the Rock Chicks so much as long as Kristen Ashley keeps writing books I’ll get over it.

Not So Much
I love Kristen Ashley books so much because she just adds so many details and that’s what I look for in every book I read.  She has definitely stood out to me because she puts the details in so beautifully that those little things become vital to every story I read from her and not many authors are able to accomplish this.  This book though kind of was a little slow for me at times and I got a little bored.  I don’t know if it was too many details or there was just not a lot of action at those times but at times it was just a little too slow for me.  Also the book ended at 90% through on kindle and I hate it when I feel like I have so much more to read and then bam, I’m at the epilogue and it says I’m only 87% through.  It’s a tease and it annoys me but I get it, there was the first chapter of The Gamble at the back and if this is the first time you are picking up the Colorado Mountain series it’s good to dip into the first book a little.

To Sum It Up

Kristen Ashley did not disappoint in Kaleidoscope, this book was awesome.  Thank you Kristen Ashley for creating Jacob Decker and give me more of that!  The sex scenes were hot, probably some of the hottest I've ever read in this series.  This story kind of threw me for a loop at the end and differed from the other Kristen Ashley books I've read and I really liked that because it was refreshing instead of repeating.  The epilogue in this book had me laughing at times, tearing up at others and just plain smiling most of the time.  The writing in the book was great, the pace at times was a little slow for me but I like that more than being too fast and skipping over stuff.  All of these books have me wanting to pack my bags and move to Colorado and I know once I get there I would probably never leave.  Kristen Ashley doesn't just create a story she creates a whole world that all these people live in and you almost aspire to be like them because she has a way of bringing out the best characteristics in humans no matter what is going on around them.  This story has got a lot of great parts, and it was so much fun to go on this ride with Emme and Decker and I hope we get to see more of them in future books.   Also I may never look at a Kaleidoscope the same way again!
