If you loved The Marriage Bargain by Jennifer Probst then you will love this book!!
British bad boy billionaire, Callum Kensington’s best friend was dying. Richard von Berg’s last wish was for Callum to take care and marry his sister to protect her from money-grabbing men. Willingly, Callum agreed to marry secretly and become Stella’s conservator until she was at the age of twenty-six.
Heiress Stella von Berg moved to London and started her new life at the age of twenty-one. For years, she harbored a crush on Callum, but he kept his distance and treated her like a child. For three years, she and her fake husband see each other once or twice a year.
He lived his life and she did hers.
But when his family started to demand Callum take a wife, he had no choice but to present Stella as his scapegoat.
After a week together in his family estate, will Callum see his wife in a different light?
What I loved:
I loved the dialogue in this book. It was very British-sounding to this American girl. I think accents are one of the sexiest things a man can possess. Anyway I digress. I loved the love triangle angle in this story. It was quite different. I loved that it all came around full circle to bite someone on the ass too. (I will keep it to myself) It was angsty and even though there was a tug of war of hearts, it was emotionally charged and kept me stuck to the pages.
Richard, Stella’s brother had a certain wisdom in his dying wish. He knew that Stella and Callum were good for each other. His death, was not in vain and that was important because he request isn’t commonplace.
What I didn’t love:
Ugh!!!! Callum’s ex Zara is the devil! I can’t stand her. She broke up with Callum, who by the way was totally in love with her, to marry his father!!! YES!!! I said FATHER!!!! Gross!! And then she thinks she can weasel her way back into Callum’s life, like nothing happened and they can pick up where they left off? Oh please. Girl, you have some things to learn. But I guess what they say is true…KARMA, my dear, is a bitch just like you.
Overall:
I felt this book was good for what it was. I hate to say this but I have read this storyline in one way or another in other books and it was done just a bit better. Now that is not to say I didn’t like this book because I did. It had a different kind of triangle as mentioned above, but still it is a bit repetitive. If you enjoy the I-will-marry-you-out-of-obligation-but-fall-in-love-with-you-anyway story lines, then you will enjoy this book. It was a quick read and it had no cliffy with a HEA!! That is always good!!
My wife was my other half. Take that piece away and then I would be half a soul. - Callum
There would countless times where life would test our limits, strength, power and perseverance. - Callum
Love was a damning thing for any human being because it made me a dreamer. -Stella
