Kari's Review of Before Jamaica Lane (On Dublin Street #3) by Samantha Young

If you love when friends become lovers, this book is for you!!!!

Summary/Blurb:
One simple lesson in seduction between two friends can turn into so much more…

Despite her outgoing demeanor, Olivia is painfully insecure around the opposite sex—usually, she can’t get up the nerve to approach guys she’s interested in. But moving to Edinburgh has given her a new start, and, after she develops a crush on a sexy postgrad, she decides it’s time to push past her fears and go after what she wants.

Nate Sawyer is a gorgeous player who never commits, but to his close friends, he’s as loyal as they come. So when Olivia turns to him with her relationship woes, he offers to instruct her in the art of flirting and to help her become more sexually confident.

The friendly education in seduction soon grows into an intense and hot romance. But then Nate’s past and commitment issues rear their ugly heads, and Olivia is left broken-hearted. When Nate realizes he’s made the biggest mistake of his life, he will have to work harder than he ever has before to entice his best friend into falling back in love with him—or he may lose her forever…

What I loved:
When an author can create a world, especially a world in another country that I want to visit, something magic happens and I am immediately drawn into said world.  In BJL, Olivia and Nate’s story unfolds in Scotland where they are surrounded by their friends that we have already met.  Nate is a playboy, but he is also Olivia’s best friend.  I love their friendship.  It has depth and humor and they prove that friends can become lovers.
Olivia wants to learn how to have sex.  This to me, was funny, because she wanted Nate to teach her to be good at sex, so she could sleep with another guy. Talk about an ego hit!!! I love that Nate was hesitant at first because he didn’t want the friendship to change and that Olivia really meant something to him.  They had a connection that was full of passion, whether they were making love, or just watching movies and talking.

What I didn’t love:
I don’t think the guy that Olivia meets in the library had a huge impact.  He was a secondary character and meant to get Nate to stand up and pay attention to Olivia.  But didn’t Nate already see her differently? There aren’t many times when I complain about a character being kind of out of place, but I felt that here.  I feel that Olivia and Nate’s connection was such that he didn’t need to be a factor, but then again maybe she never would have asked for Nate to tutor her.  I know.  I am weird.  Anyway, I also would have liked to see more or the characters from previous books, but I am a sucker for entwining characters!!!

Overall:

Before Jamaica Lane was a beautifully written third installment to the On Dublin Street series.  Olivia and Nate showed us that friendship is an important foundation to have in any relationship.  They also show us that friends can overcome obstacles and admit their feelings openly and honestly.  Olivia was such a strong person.  She wanted Nate, and went after him in the most unconventional way.  This book took me away to a place I want to be, but may never get to.  Friends to lovers books are some of the best and some of my favorites!!  Recommend this series to all!! Go!! Do it Now!!!

“I never meant to fall in love with you.  But I did.  I felt it the first night I made love to you.  I tried to walk away then because I’ve never felt so lost and yet so fucking found as I felt that night looking into your eyes as I moved inside you.  I thought I should walk away…but I couldn’t stay away from you.”- Nate
