Laura’s Review of Rock Chick Regret (Rock Chick, #7) by Kristen Ashley

If you loved Fighting for Flight (Fighting, #1) by J.B. Salsbury, Wild Man (Dream Man, #2) by Katie Ashley, and Nightfire (Protectors, #3) by Lisa Marie Rice then you will LOVE this book!!!!

Basic Summary

Sadie Townsend is known by all the The Ice Princess and she’s worked hard to earn her reputation.  Her father, a now-incarcerated Drug Lord, has kept her under his thumb her whole life and she’s learned enough from living in his world to give everyone the cold shoulder.  But one inebriated night, she shows the Real Sadie to the undercover agent she knows is investigating her father, the handsome Hector Chavez, and he knows he’ll stop at nothing to have her.

Hector makes one (huge) mistake; he waits for Sadie to come to him.  Tragedy strikes and Sadie’s got a choice, she can retreat behind her Ice Fortress or she can embrace the Rock Chick/Hot Bunch World.  Guided by Hector, the Rock Chicks, the Hot Bunch and her new gay roommates, Buddy and Ralphie, Sadie negotiates a life out from under her father’s thumb, a life that includes poison, arson and learning how to make s’mores.

What I love About This Book
First off this book begins very differently than the rest of the ones in the series.  By the end of chapter two you’re crying, your heart is pounding out of your chest, and are in complete shock.  At certain point luck runs out for the Rock Chicks and when it does it’s the female lead in this book, Sadie, who pays the price.  You immediately love her because of what she has been through, and it’s not something bad that happened in her past it’s very present throughout this entire book and that is what sucks you in as a reader.

To me Sadie in a lot of ways is hard to relate to because of how she’s grown up.  Like she says in the book she’s never had friends, she never went to camp, she never did the normal everyday things that we all take for granted and because of this she’s more out of touch to me than the other girls.  But what I think the genius of Kristen Ashley is that knowing she’s someone hard to relate but she goes through something horrible so it gives you the chance to latch onto her anyway.  To me this book was probably the most emotional of the series and it’s because of Sadie and her state of mind that just makes you want to reach out and hug her throughout the entire story.

Of course with every Rock Chick book there are many parts where you are laughing hysterically and this book doesn't disappoint.  Also like with every Rock Chick book more characters are added to the clan and Ralphie and Buddy are an awesome addition, Ralphie and Sadie have a very emotional part in this book and they added a whole other layer of awesome to this book.  I can’t get enough of Tex, he to me is probably one of the best characters ever created in any book I have ever read.  I truly wish he was real because I would take a plane to Denver just so he could make me a latte or coffee one day.

Hector and Sadie’s chemistry is nothing short of sizzling, and their sex scenes were awesome.  Hector is a definite bad boy, and is just too hot and sexy for words.  He’s awesome, and I love that his house isn't as set up and done as the other Hot Bunch’s houses because that way Sadie and Hector together can make it their own home.  Even though he’s a hot head and I wanted to slap him a couple times in this story I also wanted to kiss him and do some other things as well.  I love his big nosy family, I loved them Jet and Eddie’s story and I love them in this book as well.  Blanca like Tex cracks me up and every time she was around I had a huge smile on my face while reading.

I love that like every Rock Chick book none of the other Rock Chicks are forgotten and we are able to see the progression of their relationships.  We get to see Jules and Vance married and with a kid, and we see movement forward with Jet and Eddie and in the epilogue with Hank and Ava.  I love that this series doesn't ignore past characters they are always central to every story, and it’s so great to see the love between each and every one of these people.

Cons
I sound like a broken record with this complaint but I need more break away from the usual plot in this series.  I get that this is a series and they all follow the same story pattern, but it gets boring after a while and it makes it hard to read book after book because of it.  I like that what happened to Sadie was very sad and it broke the mold as far as the Rock Chick escaping somewhat unscathed (except for Jules) but I would've liked more of a change up involved.  As much as I love Sadie and Hector I didn't love them as much as I did Stella and Mace but that’s just me so I can’t really count that as a con.

Overall

Like I said this book was probably the most emotional in this series.  Unlike Rock Chick Renegade where something very bad happens to Jules at the very end of the book, something bad happens in the very beginning of the book.  Due to this you are immediately sucked into Sadie’s story, and you just feel for her every second of this story.  She’s an emotional wreck throughout this book but it’s not annoying at all because it’s very much justified.  Tons of action in this book, there is so much going on I don’t even know where to start. There is never a dull moment in Sadie and Hector’s love story which is fine with me since I hate lulls.  This book had me cracking up at times, crying at other times, and just plain blushing and smiling for most of the time.  I wish there were more Chavez boys to go around so I could experience more of this hot family. I loved the ending in this book and the epilogue was kind of romantic definitely leading into Ren and Aly’s story which I can’t wait to get to!!
